grandMattie

Just bought chilli powder. My pots now have an elegant sprinkle of red on top. Hope it works.

I have put my bulbs in and not having any chilli powder here at our lodge I have got chilli flakes. I hope the squirrels enjoy those 🤣

Good morning all from chilly Cheam.
The countdown has started GrandMattie! Oh well just been busy, now on the train to St Albans!
Have the best day possible folks

I would love an umbrella like that Holly but unfortunately my wonky hand wouldn’t be able to hold one and the other hand is in charge of the stick! I wonder how other people manage it.

hollysteers Mon 16-Oct-23 10:39:54

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest coast.
Another quiet day at home. Yesterday I stewed lots of apples from the garden with cinnamon and froze them. Bit of a faff as they are small and the result hardly looks worth it.

On my trip on Saturday, forgetting an umbrella, I bought a see through type, just like the Queen and Queen Mother used to use (so my fans can see me😁) and love it. I can see where I’m going and it keeps the wind off my face.
Will read through later and thoughts to Gingster Urms Kalu and anyone with worries 🌹

Marydoll

Morning all, its only 3°C here.

DH woke me with a cuppa as I have a GP face to face appointment today. I fell as.eepand now I am discombobulated!!

It hasn't helped that despite promising everything had been resolved, that the extremely high bill was incorrect due to the faulty smart meter, and our payments would remain the same, Scottish Gas have taken a massive payment from our bank account overnight. Not good for my already high BP.
Thank goodness we weren't overdrawn. 😡 Ombudsman here we come!

Baubles, I hope your husband gets on ok at the hospital. Parking at the Glasgow hospitals is horrendous.

Have a good day folks.

Have a good day folks.

You can phone the bank and ask them to reverse the payment. I did this when we were changing provider a couple of years ago.

We had given them readings which they chose to ignore and proceeded to take £800 from our account. I phoned the bank and they reversed the payment - the provider wasn’t long in sending a corrected bill for a fraction of the amount . I think you would have to do it today though.

RosiesMaw Mon 16-Oct-23 09:59:04

We also have pesky squirrels grandMattie. Even a large greyhound zooming around the garden doesn't deter them

Here too, but it does provide exercise for the aforementioned greyhound!
Rosie loves looking out for them when we walk through the park too, she will stop dead, cock her head and look up at the trees where presumably she can hear them. Has to be dragged on.
Hope springs eternal…it seems.

Good morning Mick and all from cloudy Lancashire, where it is currently 5°C.

The central heating is now on, sunshine is forecast for this week and the temperature is dropping. I ordered a dehumidifier to use when the laundry needs drying. I have been researching the different makes, types and functions, looked at people’s opinions and finally chose one. It will arrive today. MrB has an optician appointment this morning.

We had a great time with two of our nieces and their families yesterday. Two of our great nephews are in their teens and are so tall. It’s lovely watching them grow up, gain confidence and find their way.

What a beautiful sunrise Greyduster.

How awful for your DD Gingster, it would seem hospital is no place for the sick!

Hope your DH’s appointment goes well Baubles.

Your trip sounds very exciting Liberty, safe journey.

Scottish Gas need a rocket Marydoll, dreadful service. Hope the GP appointment is successful.

We don’t see much of our sunrise here either Taichinan but being on the west coast we do see glorious sunsets.

Happy Monday everyone 🌻

keepcalmandcavachon Mon 16-Oct-23 09:29:15

Good morning all, hope everyone has a good day, missed the
boat with the sunshine yesterday- should have mown the lawn!
Hopefully dry enough today though. Toasted teacake(s) when the wellies come off.....

Good morning all from the Black country where we had an overnight frost but the sun is shining now.
Yesterday DS phoned they were going to local park did I want to join them it was lovely as we haven't seen each other for a while. DiL family also joined us so the 6 cousins had a great time playing while the adults enjoyed the sun.
Will catch up with everybody's happenings later.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️

Good morning from a cool, cloudy Durham. Spent most of yesterday at Newcastle’s Quayside market with Little Dog. Local DD was busy, but I really enjoyed my day - cold and crisp, street food, wine and a Mariachi band for starters. Today seems tame with a visit to bad back friend, a bit of food shopping and a walk with Little Dog later.
Marydoll I finally got a cheque for almost £300 overpayment from Scottish Power earlier this month, relating from 9/22 to 3/23. I’d been phoning 2x a month, had a list of names I’d spoken to, but only when I mentioned Ombudsman, did the cheque arrived - no apology (or compensation, as per law) just a stock letter. Still, I’m glad it’s sorted, I’m shot of them and can honestly say, they are the worst firm I’ve ever dealt with!
Hope our poorlies are improving as time passes.
Best wishes to all. X

Kalu Mon 16-Oct-23 09:02:28

Good morning all from a chilly 5deg Glasgow.

As today’s forecast tells me it will be a dry with some sunshine day, the washing machine is already on full of bedlinen which will hopefully dry in the sun.

Our hedge cutter is already here. Poor man has such a backlog of work due to so much wet weather, he should have been here last month, I’m just happy to see him, better late than never and he does a sterling job.

We are expecting a visit from DD1 and the girls. GD2 needs cheering up as her darling cat, Scout suffered a fatal heart attack last night. Huge cuddles are waiting for her here. Poor boy was only 10. His brother is GD1’s cat and will be lost without him.

Hoping to spend some time pottering in the garden. DD1 and I will have a relaxing coffee while the girls help their exuberant puppy expend some energy racing around the garden.

Have the best day you can everyone.

I forgot to mention how sweet of your grandson thinking of you like that Grandmabatty I know you will treasure it.

Grandmadinosaur Mon 16-Oct-23 08:48:36

Good morning from the east Yorkshire countryside. It’s a dry, bright one.

Funny to read about the pesky squirrels today. As DH was sat reading the paper in the living room he spotted one out on the decking having a good go at one of my pots. Thankfully I hadn’t yet planted the bulbs I bought on Saturday. I was about to ask on GN for any tips but will give the chilli one a go. Thanks for all the ideas.

Today we are doing the cleaning we didn’t do yesterday then head home. I fancy a quick stop off in Beverley en route for a coffee and a browse in the small department store.

Safe travels Liberty

Taichinan Mon 16-Oct-23 08:38:51

Good morning all. It's a pleasant, bright - but cold - morning on the Angus coast. That's a lovely photo if your sunrise greyduster. Unfortunately I don't get a good view of ours - too many trees in that direction - but judging by photos on fb we've had a few lovely ones here. I just see a rosy glow.
I had a lovely gossipy coffee (followed by lunch as we were still talking then) with someone I hadn't seen for a good few years - a lot to catch up on! It was a lovely drive there and back as well.
It was a great drying day here too on Saturday and I washed everything I could lay my hands on and even the towels dried in a couple of hours. Looking at the forecast I see that tomorrow is the last dry day til the end of the month (!) so again I shall be looking for things to wash! I notice we have a yellow warning for heavy rain on Thursday through to Saturday, but at least round here we don't flood.
I'm off soon to a tai chi committee meeting - we have our AGM on Friday. A necessary, but not enjoyed, duty if I want to be an instructor!
Grandmabatty what a treasured possession that fridge magnet will become! How lovely. I hope little dgs2 behaves admirably for you today.
I'm not surprised your DD left hospital yesterday gingster - she'll be so much better off at home. Sounds horrid.
Enjoy your busy days everyone and I hope those suffering have a better day. flowers to all poorlies x

EkwaNimitee Mon 16-Oct-23 08:36:35

Good morning Mick and everyone from a rather cloudy and cool Carlisle where it's currently 4°C.
Yesterday was a quiet day of pottering at this and that and a spot of reading.
Today is the usual Monday of laundry and housework, it seems to come round twice a week. I must also get on and finish my bulb planting. Lying in bed in the early hours, I remembered that there was another bag of them in the garage in addition to a box of crocuses to plant in the lawn, a hands and knees job.

Wishing you all a good day if possible.

Primrose53 Mon 16-Oct-23 08:35:41

First frost! Looks as though it’s going to be a fine day though in North Norfolk.

Jaxjacky Mon 16-Oct-23 08:31:57

Morning from a chilly S Hants, cloudy and due to remain so. I’m pleased your daughter is home Gingster that ward sounds horrendous.
Enjoy your holiday Liberty, full of memories.
What a great rugby weekend, edge of the seat viewing. Today is volunteer phones and quiz tonight, I’ll sneak a walk in at some point.
Thoughts with the poorlies and worried.

Good morning everyone from Severnside. Cloudy and cold.
Pleased that I got my jobs done yesterday. Mended my chair or so I thought but it broke again !
Off to get petrol and store cupboard supplies this morning and having a FaceTime with my sister in law.

Good wishes to all and have a good trip Liberty ✈️🌻

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 16-Oct-23 08:23:18

Good morning from a frosty Oxfordshire, it looks as though it will stay sunny. Moved the pots of Geraniums to the front of the house yesterday where it’s marginally warmer then when it gets too cold they can come indoors, I directed, MrOops lifted.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from a chilly NE, it really is autumn.
Had a lazy day yesterday, spent most of the day watching TV.
Sister rang me mto thank me for her birthday gift, I usually buy her an advent calendar, this year I bought her a Molton Brown one.
Today I will do some housework and maybe finish my book.
Thoughts are with poorly people.

Gingster Mon 16-Oct-23 08:20:01

Liberty - have a wonderful holiday. 🇮🇳.

Gala Mon 16-Oct-23 08:12:23

Good morning all from an overcast but dry Sefton. No weather forecast for today - no rain, no wind & no sun.
An enjoyable early evening yesterday with DS1 & family including a roast dinner cooked by him. That was the 4th time this week I didn't have to cook a main meal. 😀 So fed up with all the planning, shopping, prepping etc associated with food. Do enjoy eating though 😬.
Singing group this morning. Must remember to take my iPad as we will attempt to include one of our members who is in hospital - & suffering from cabin fever - via FaceTime.
We also have pesky squirrels grandMattie. Even a large greyhound zooming around the garden doesn't deter them.
I did jury service many years ago Jacs7. I found it really interesting, so much so, that I had to keep reminding myself I was part of the proceedings & not part of an "audience".
Hoping this week will be kind to you all.

Good morning from a chilly but clear Suffolk.

I’m off to India tomorrow where the temp in Delhi is 35 degrees. After an internal flight to Amritsar where the temp is similar and where we stay for a couple of days,we travel to the Himalayas where the weather is much more pleasant.

I am travelling with a very dear friend who I have known for over 50 years and returning to some places I’ve visited before and new places I haven’t. I was a volunteer with VSO for a year there in 1969-1970 and have always felt I left part of my heart there.

gM we have problems here with tulip bulbs and both squirrels and field mice every year. I read somewhere last year that chilli powder sprinkled on the top of the pots was an effective deterrent and so it proved to be. Good luck with protecting your second set.

Sending my best wishes to all especially those unwell and those caring for others. I will try and post occasionally when away but if not look forward to catching up in early November.
