Good Morning Saturday 21st October 2023
(55 Posts)Good morning from Bristol. Not looked out but it rained in the night. Today won’t top 12C, which is fairly chilly. I’ve put my night storage heater on, on the lowest temperature possible. (We are too old and gaga to be allowed gas!)
Yesterday was quiet, Spanish then potter.
Today there is the church coffee and chat, and a Covid jab.,I just hope that I don’t feel too unwell again. I’m not holding my breath as there have been so many reports of bad side effects with this new jab.
Nearing the end of square-making for quilt #2; just assembly and finishing.
May today bring joy and/or relief to those with health and emotional mountains to climb, especially to Urms, dustyand Marydoll. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
Good morning, I don’t know what the weather’s like as I haven’t looked outside yet.
We’re on the west Wales coast for two weeks, back in my favourite spot.
A very long, wet drive yesterday, there was an awful accident that closed the M4 then murky low cloud and heavy rain from Rhayader onwards that made it very atmospheric and mysterious all through the valleys.
We had our double jabs Wednesday grandMattie without any side effects apart from a slightly sore arm (both in the same arm for me) and a bit of a headache so I hope you’re lucky too.
A long beach walk planned for today, we’ve got all the right gear so I’m looking forward to that.
Take care everyone 🌹
Morning Mick, morning All. Dark and damp sums up our corner of Somerset.
Decent day yesterday. Enjoyed volunteering and caught up with our elder granddaughter in the afternoon before a garden centre wander which involved cake.
Hoping for a walk this morning and a much needed admin catch up this afternoon. Blink and the admin hill turns into a mountain.
Neither of us had the hint of an adverse reaction to our covid jabs grandmattie. Hope the same for you.
Thinking especially of everyone with health and other worries. Hope Saturday is gentle with us all.
Good morning from a dark and very wet Black Country.
Meeting with friend yesterday cancelled due to flooding around her house. So decided to visit Mum on the bus. As I arrived I realised I didn't have my house keys. Panicking that I left them in the door, I rang my friend who luckily was in and she went round and retrieved them from the door, phew! How I did that I cannot imagine. Panic over and Mum and I went for lunch. Two Fish n chips £11.00 cannot beat that.
Popped into said friends on way home to collect keys and had an hour with her. MrJ still in Bristol until later today or tomorrow morning.
No real plans today, possibly gym and housework.
I am lucky I suppose apart from sore arms, never really had a reaction to Covid and Flu jabs.
My Niece is 32 today, hard to imagine how that time has flown. She is a lovely girl.
Wishing you all the best day possible.
Good morning from a wet South Downs. It still feels incredibly mild and a temperature of 16 c is forecast.
I finally made the Christmas puddings yesterday and have steamed the first one. 2 more to go. Only the cake left to make, which I will probably make on stir-up Sunday.
Only another week to go and I can drive again. I shall then start to walk the dog. He has got so old, that he needs taking to the park in the car - the walk there and back is too far now.
Nothing planned for today, just pootling about.
Fish, chips and peas planned. Left over plum cobbler with custard.
Peace and harmony to all.
Morning all from a damp West Oxfordshire. I think we will be putting everything back in the bedroom/study today. Last night we put the shelving back and the curtains. I have a pile of books to go through. Some may go to a charity shop. A lot depends on my energy levels! This latest covid is a pain!
Have a good day everyone especially MaryD and Urms and I know there are others who are suffering in all sorts of ways.
Morning Mick and All.
It’s likely to drizzle for most of today in South Bucks, so I will wear my waterproof over trousers when out this morning. They are so good and can highly recommend, got them from Mountain Warehouse.
Going to our local amateur dramatics tonight to see some short Alan Ayckbourn plays should be good.
Good morning all from a dark North Leicestershire. It sounds very quiet out there!
Not a lot happening here today, thankfully. We seem to have been on the go for weeks. DH and DS1 are going to 'the football' and their tickets include food so that relieves me of making brunch before they go.
I will spend the day with the papers and possibly watch a film. Waitrose meal deal this evening.
We have not been badly affected by the weather but DD1's cellar has been flooded and they had a mad panic to move all the camping gear. A minor inconvenience compared to those who have had much worse to contend with.
Up in the dark because the workman waxing the new doors is here and already at work. Feel distinctly zombie-like as am not at my best first thing but am grateful to have tradesmen who come when they say they will, and the finished result is going to be excellent.
Otherwise a domestic sort of day until this afternoon when we have a concert with a 5.00 pm run through, so will need to save some energy for that. Singing is not a problem, standing is.
Good morning from a damp but mild Torbay.
If it helps, grandMattie, I had virtually no reaction to my recent Covid vaccination, unlike the preceding four! Let’s hope you have a similar experience, like NannyJan53 and cornergran.
Thank goodness for helpful neighbours, NannyJan53!
It sounds like you’re making the most of your holiday in Wales, RosesandLilac but what an horrendous journey!
A late start for me after a late night after the folk evening at our theatre which was most enjoyable. Two of the three singers are members of Toads and play accordions, the third was a visitor playing an Irish bazouki which sounded beautiful. Similar to a mandolin.
Happy weekend, where possible but thoughts are with those who are unwell.
🦩🥰🦩💐🦩
Good morning from quiet and damp Sefton.
I didn’t have a post-jab problem, grandMattie. Hopefully you’ll be fine too.
Thoughts to those with struggles. Have the best Saturday possible everyone.
Good morning from Shropshire.
We collected the children from school early yesterday as the flood water was rising.SIL met us at school with their clothes etc as the water was getting quite deep in their lane.An hour later DD struggled getting home and is now marooned in their house and hoping the car will be ok as she had to drive through flood water to get home.No option but to carry on as the lanes were flooded in all directions.
Today we will stay at home.Uniforms to wash and the children have requested to do baking.
Hope all our grans in Scotland are ok especially thinking of Taichinan on the Angus coast.
Hope you had a relaxing day yesterday Grandmabatty after your busy week.
My thoughts are with all unwell and those with worries.
Have the best day you can everyone🌺🦩
Good morning from a grey but dry, at present, Colchester. Rain forecast later. The house is warm enough for the heating not to click on but it feels humid so the dehumidifier is on.
DH's fishing work party has been cancelled because of the weather so we have no plans today. We'll snuggle down to watch the rugby this evening.
Love to all 🦩 x
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a damp South Yorkshire. It’s still raining, but not blowing quite so hard. Yesterday I didn’t venture out at all - found enough to do indoors. Had an email from my insurer giving me a quote for the car but couldn’t access the online documents even though the email address and password were correct. Tried to change the password and it wouldn’t have that either so ended up phoning them to find out how much they are going to skin me for this year. I had to reach for the smelling salts but managed, in the end, to get it down to something acceptable. DH would be proud of me!
DS is dropping in today on his way to a very late kick off football match. The timings for these Premier League matches are ridiculous. He’s staying overnight with his cousin and will call in here again tomorrow on his way home.
I hope everyone has a pleasant day and that it is dry somewhere!!
Good morning from a damp Oxfordshire, but it seems to be drying up.
MrOops is out today, the first time he’s felt comfortable leaving me on my own, I shall play my music all day.
Nothing else to report, prescriptions were waiting at the chemist yesterday, which was a relief, not sure why the surgery didn’t let me know.
We had the Pfizer Covid jabs , no side effects but a headache after a couple of hours, I must book my Pneumonococcle (spelling?) jab as the Dr advised, I’ll feel like a pincushion after 4 jabs in as many weeks,
Have a good day everyone, virtual hugs for all those who are
unwell or caring for poorlies.
Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is only 7°C, a tad chilly. We have another weather warning here
I have nothing to report, yesterday was another non day. In between the dizzy spells, I did manage a wee bit of parish admin which was niggling me.
One of my church friends messaged me and I commented that the PP hadn't been to visit, despite everything I do for him.😒
Roll on the evening and I had an email from him to say he had been to visit during the week, the cars were there, but no-one had answered the door. He thought I was avoiding him!
I was in bed, and deaf DH hadn't heard the front door camera alert. 😡
On checking the doorbell, I found it wasn't working, which explains why the delivery drivers were dumping my naughty purchases in the drive in the rain!
Tonight at 18.58 (strange) time, I am having my Covid and 'flu boosters in a venue only ten minutes away. I hope I feel well enough to go.
I had a Covid one in the spring, but that must have worn off by now.
There is an Indian restaurant straight across the road, so we are picking up a take away afterwards. That means no cooking, yippee!
Thinking of those people, who have lost their lives in the storm or who have been badly effected. It's scary seeing the destructive power of floodwater. I was glad to hear that one of the Glesca Grannies, who lives in Angus is safe.
Best wishes to all in the sick bay and especially my pal Borrheid, I hope you are on the mend. I was saying to DH that I can't remember what I did ten minutes ago, but I can remember our schooldays so vividly.
Have a good day folks!
Good morning from soggy s somerset, yet more rain later today and plenty yesterday
A long- sleeved nightie is needed so I will make one from lovely soft breatheable tencel/modal in my stash. That is today sorted, apart from making a batch of scones. I definitely feel like nibble-food, now that it is autumn
I did a lot of in depth cleaning and tidying yesterday, sewing room and kitchen. Very satisfying by the time I went to bed and perhaps why I slept all through
I popped down to the shops yesterday, I like to support local and came back with a full bag, I also saw the fish man and the queue by his van. I will be joining that queue as soon as I have finished the fish in my freezer. Would rather shop local any day
Have a good day
Good morning everyone from a grey and wet Inverness, still lots of water about here but no flooding thank goodness.
I’m looking forward to a quieter day today staying home. If it’s dry later I might do a bit of gardening but otherwise I’ve lots of inside jobs to keep me busy. We’re still trying to finalise on exactly what we want for the new bathroom so probably trawling through more brochures and trying to make a decision.
Hoping everyone on the move today has safe and trouble free journeys
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Rain here but nothing like further north. DD has no power. It's unlikely to come back on till midday. Unfortunately they rely on electricity though they have a wood stove.
My NZ Helpers will stay here until their bus north runs. Probably Monday.
I read about that dreadful M4 accident Roseandlilac
Here we watched the rugby to much satisfaction.
I'm helping in the community café as usual today.
Hope the day goes well. Keep safe everyone.
Good morning all and it isn’t raining ….. yet!
Yesterday I got in the car to collect little DGD for school and as I reversed out I heard a scraping noise 😳. A flat as a pancake tyre with a screw embedded it it. 😤. Quick call to other nanna to step in and a call to Fords rescue. They were here by 9.15, temporarily repaired the hole, to enable Dh to get it to Quickfix tyres and all was repaired in Half an hour. What great service!
Today I’ll pop up to town and pay a little visit to dgd2, who has a Saturday job in the card shop. She’ll be surprised and probably little shy to see her nanna. Such a lovely , sweet girl.
Dh and ds1 will go to footie if it’s not called off 💧💧.
I, hopefully have a free day, so will enjoy my time, reading, finishing off writing the Christmas cards, and catching up on tv dramas. Perhaps fish and chips for tea.
I thought about making a Christmas cake, but the motivation left me and I’ve ordered a luxury one from a favourite shop. Still cheaper than making one and I know it will be delicious.
#lazygran (Urms) 😉.
Wishing you all a peaceful, happy day and hoping poorlies are feeling just a bit better. 🙏
Good morning all from wet but calmed down Harrogate. Had my covid yesterday and my arm has been very sore, but OK apart from that. Today I am hoping to go to the church coffee morning and take with me 6 of the Clifton Chronicles with me for them to sell - and for me to enjoy the space
Have the best day possible folks
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 7° and damp. The rain looks likely to start up again soon. Yesterday it rained the whole day. I feel for those on the east who are suffering badly. Susan I was lazy yesterday! Marydoll enjoy your Indian takeaway. I could eat pakora until I burst!
Yesterday I went early to Aldi for food. I was very glad I had as the weather all day was atrocious and it never stopped raining. I managed to pick up play food for the boys in Aldi's toy sale. Later I got all the washings done and some housework.
Today I shall finish the housework. I have someone coming this afternoon to clean the sofas, footstool and rug in the living room. They have served me well and I would like a new suite but there's little point until dgs2 is toilet trained. Therefore this morning I'll get the hoover out and clean up the sofas. I baked trout fillets with orange and almonds last night and I have one ready for dinner with salad tonight. I anticipate the dehumidifier will be on a lot today and I won't be able to use the sofas until tomorrow. I'll just have to go to bed 😄. Have a good day all
Good morning from a damp W Kent. I have decided to buy in a curry for this evening to accompany Strictly but otherwise a quiet Saturday. Possible visit from DD2 but she is always in a rush so we will see
All the best
