Giovanni and Amanda Abbington on Strictly

I expect other dance couples have riled each other on Strictly and managed to work together in the end.

This story has been simmering for a while with cryptic messages and quotes being quoted. From both sides, I think. Does anyone else think that Amanda Abbington has shot herself in the foot by issuing a statement in which she thanks ev eryone but the kitchen sink but, noticeably omits Giovanni!

It does point to her being somewhat embittered. Giovanni has been much more dignified about the matter.

Is that what is coming out then? That he is unpleasant in private?
I thought they looked great together and she was doing well.

I did think it a little odd (and in the light of the above, somewhat churlish) not to thank him but thank everyone else!

Having seen him with some of his other partners I don’t believe he is unpleasant, I think he’s a hard taskmaster, which isn’t the same thing.

If you get the chance to see Giovanni live, go 😍
His shows are fantastic. I’ve seen him twice.

Rose thought he was wonderful and she has apparently kept in touch with him. She also appeared in his travel programme with Anton.

Some people are not good at taking instructions and I have an inkling that Amanda may be one of them. This is based on nothing at all smile but a sense of how she comes across. I could be totally wrong.

Totally agree MerylStreep I have seen Giovanni live and agree his shows are fantastic. Already booked to see him for a third time. Can't wait!

Am I right in thinking Giovanni has quit Strictly due to this silly business?
I for one will miss him.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 08:20:45

Oh really, Joseann - that would be very sad news for the public!

Some professional dancers on this show are fabulous - but Giovanni also turns out some great choreography...

He was magnificent with Rose, if she had no complaints then that should be enough!
when Brendan left It wasn't the same for me and now with Gio going, I won't bother watching.

I've just read this and will really miss him on Strictly.

I loved all his dances with Rose and their 'Symphony' dance was simply outstanding.

I wouldn’t really trust any of these ‘gossip’ type sites. They come up with some ridiculous scenarios about people, mostly made up. The BBC haven’t said anything about this so until then, I won’t actually believe he’s quit.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 09:14:06

Yes. The BBC have issued a statement but it had no background so I could only find "gossip"
This is an Irish page if anyone wondered.

I've just read this and will be very sorry if Gio is no longer one of the pro dancers. His choreography is terrific.

I have never liked Amanda Abbington and think it's a great shame if her "campaign" against Gio has forced this result. Some people just don't take instruction well and I wonder if she is one of them. I know she has a challenging home life with her fiance having suffered life-changing injuries from his stage act which has probably meant that she is on a short fuse, but Strictly will be the poorer without Gio's input.

Oh the irony!

Genuine question- why are people so interested in this stuff?

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 09:42:21

I was interested in him as he's such a good dancer keepingquiet and this thread re-emerged today.

Simply that. I probably won't think of him again till Strictly comes round again!

kittylester Fri 17-May-24 09:56:14

I'm interested in him because he is a brilliant dancer, genius choreographer and not bad looking either. blush

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-May-24 09:59:22

Ha ha kitty!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 17-May-24 09:59:49

Oh kitty I agree 😍🤗

Joseann Fri 17-May-24 11:59:11

I'm glad some Strictly friends on here like to chat.
That's why I mentioned it on Chat and not on N & P!
I don't think Giovanni will be short of work, but his choreography will be missed on the show.

lemsip Sat 18-May-24 10:24:10

A source told the publication: “He wants to focus on other TV projects, and feels he’s achieved all he can on Strictly, having won the trophy back in 2021 and reaching the final an unprecedented four times.”

giovanni won't be short of work that's for sure.

the three females who got together to complain about him should have pulled out of the show at the time not grizzle to each other couple of years later.

Absolutely spot on!

When he partnered Georgia May Foote (who can forget their amazing charleston!) he helped her to move out from an abusive relationship and was very kind to her.

ferry23 Sat 18-May-24 12:33:13

There's always going to be natural wastage on the show - either contracts not renewed by the BBC or the dancer leaving of their own accord.

But I do feel this has been somewhat forced upon him and it's a shame as he's a great choreographer and popular with the viewers.

I can remember when the likes of Brendan and Ian Waite left, Vincent and Flavia...etc - I thought it wouldn't be the same without them but how quickly we forget and find some new favourites!

kittylester Sat 18-May-24 12:59:04

Agree to a certain extent, ferry, but none of those are quite like Giovanni!!
