Good morning from a damp but dry and calm Oxfordshire after a wet and blowy evening. MissOops came over as the dog was stressed by the wind blowing down the chimney, she has always been upset by thunder and fireworks, but the noise of a strong wind is a new one, she calmed down by bedtime, let’s hope it doesn’t all restart again today.
I need to call the Drs at 8.30 as my cough still hasn’t gone, maybe ha can give me something or reassure me that it will go eventually, 4 weeks seems a long time for an Asthma cough to still be lingering.
Another excellent quilt GM
I’ll pop back in late to see everyone’s news
Take care today everybody and stay dry.

Good Morning Thursday 2nd November 2023
(64 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark with some wind but its not raining at the moment here in brackley , unsure whether the storm as past over or its on its way here.
Two options are stay in if becomes windy and wet and not risk a bus journey or see how it looks in a couple of hours .
Take Care,
Mick
Good morning from a very wet and windy Suffolk. All was quiet when we went to bed but the weather sounded ferocious at 1am. We have power which is always a worry in high winds because all the lines are overhead.
My stretch class this morning was cancelled yesterday and a lunch with 3 friends has been postponed til Monday so I’m looking forward to a quiet day at home. Whether the dog will agree to venture out on to the flooded drive and along the soggy fields( which may also be flooded) is anybody’s guess. She hates the rain.
I hope no one has been too badly affected by the storm and life gets back on an even keel for all soon.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 2° and dry. Not much wind to speak of. Ash laughing is the only way! GrandMattie a lovely quilt. Susan have a good day with the grandchildren. I love the idea of ninja cats!
Yesterday I picked up a bit of dgs2's birthday present from Next. Once home, I blethered to my neighbour for half an hour. They are not long back from a lengthy spell in Lanzarote. I pottered about in the afternoon and roasted a small chicken for dinner. I didn't manage to visit mum at night because of flooding. The road was impassable and after my car trouble on Sunday I wasn't taking the chance.
Last night I had a very bad night's sleep, mainly because of feet and leg pain. It might have eased off if I'd taken paracetamol but I fight against too many tablets. I'm my own worst enemy. Today I'll visit mum in the afternoon I think. That's all I have planned. There might be a nap later. Have a good day all
Good morning from a somewhat blustery Cornwall. Very late start for me, probably because the noisy Biffa lorry doesn't pass my son's flat, and also his bed is very comfy! My grandson is up and dressed, eating some sort of cereal. He'll be very windswept on his 20-minute school walk but he won't mind.
No photos of wood nymphs or fairies today Monk. 😊
I'll have an amble around Asda later, as it's near my son's flat. Then a windy trek to the bus stop. Love this weather, but so far it hasn't really come to much, maybe it's waiting for me and my crutches to venture out. Less than a month to my knee replacement. Yay!!!
Ash, what a hoot, I mean what a mess!!!
Good morning all. Dull damp & quiet here in Sefton. My thoughts are with those of you bearing the brunt of this storm.
I think most of us have been there Ash or some version of it - mine involved chocolate yoghurt on the kitchen ceiling. Wasn't happy at the time but did laugh about it later.
Had an uninterrupted night's sleep last night. Feel so much better for it. What a difference a solid 7/8 hours makes. Wish I could bottle it.
Zumba Toning this morning & raring to go . Love my Zumba. Then a food shop - not so keen - they just keep eating it & I have to do it again! Mustn't forget a visit to the fish man as well. Fish for tea.
Take care & stay safe out there.
Good morning all from East Yorkshire. Rain overnight here but not too windy and dry at the moment.
Yesterday wasn’t too bad and I managed to go out to the theatre in a dressy jacket rather than looking like a bag lady in a waterproof coat. I really enjoyed the play which I’d recommend as it is on tour around the country. There was a full house and a well deserved standing ovation. I also managed to pop into Next and H &M nearby and bought a couple of C***** presents - tick.
No plans today but lots of things to catch up on in the house and then a hair appointment for my roots late afternoon. It will be dark when I come home so will get DH to walk up and meet me.
What great news for your DDIL luluAugust
Hoping everyone stays safe with the weather 🤞
Good morning all, and it isn't raining in the Angus coast - yet. But don't worry - it will be back!
Discretion is the better part of valour I think today Mick
What a lovely break you have had in Ceredigion RoseandLilac. Safe journey home again.
I love that quilt with the ginger cat grandmattie - I'm sure its little recipient will too
Oh Ash, what a mess! Like ladyleftfield I once used the liquidiser without its lid - not to be recommended!
Glad the three Gransnatters had a good meet-up.
What a difference a night's sleep makes! It wasn't as long as it should have been as I'd become too nervous about having another night of tossing and turning to go to bed early, but I only woke once and went straight back to sleep again til the alarm. Who knows, I might even be coherent at tai chi this morning!
Have a good day everyone x
Good morning all from Harrogate - I haven’t opened my curtains yet so no idea what is lurking outside.
The ninja quilt is lovely GrandMattie.
Oh what a mess Ashcombe it was good you can laugh about it!
Today is my Sainsburies shopping delivery day. Nothing else planned, apart from zooming my sisters this evening. Managed a phone call to the doc yesterday about my throat ( after a pill got stuck in it) I was supposed to have a throat spray sent from the pharmacy, it didn’t come yesterday, so throat is still very sore- can’t talk! Hoping for improvement today.
Have the best day possible folks
Wonderful news about your DDiL luluaugust - such a relief for you all.
Such good news for your DDIL luluaugust and for all of you.
Good morning Mick and All from a damp South Bucks.
Hoping all well for our dear youngest grandson who is on a school trip on the Isle of Wight. My son his dad lives near Brighton, which also is experiencing bad weather. I am going on the saying ‘No news is good news’ plus a few prayers.
Happy news Lulu 💐
Sincere condolences to Grandtante and her family
Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is -1°C. At least it is not raining at the moment. We had rain of biblical proportions yesterday.
I am another who has suffered tomato sauce trauma. I once forgot to secure the lid, when blending tomato sauce. I needed new kitchen curtains.🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
Lulu, that's better news for your DIL.
*OOps, I hope you get to speak to a doctor. I have bronchiectasis, caused by scarring in my lungs, due to years of severe asthma attacks. A change of inhalers by a respiratory consultant helped relieve the symptoms. I hope you can get some relief.
Yesterday was a bit of a mixed bag. The vertigo returned with a vengeance and I was very sick. What a blow, because I had been much better the day before.
However, the schools were on strike and we surprisingly saw Dollie for an hour, which lifted my spirits.. 😍
I am going to get up and get dressed. If I feel reasonably human, DD and SIL are coming to take me to Costco to get some things.
I cannot face the drive there, even when I am allowed, as it involves the motorway and going through the centre of Glasgow. DH point blank refuses to go. DD works in that area and is used to the road.
I between the episodes of vertigo, I managed to clear out much of the freezer in preparation for today.
Note to self, Do not save random leftovers, in the hope that it will come in useful.
I am mortified at my lack of housewifery,😚, it was a mess! In my defense I have been too unwell to keep on top of things. Well that is my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Sending best wishes to Blossoming and Mr Dusty and anyone who is struggling. Have a good day folks.
All your tomato ketchup stories remind me of a holiday we had in one of those static caravans, somewhere,mi forget where.
The squeeze bottles had just been brought in,and as a special treat, I had bought one for the children. DS1 was, at 13, absolutely vile. That day, during dinner, he was even more horrible. I just didn’t know what to say/do. In a rage, I picked up the squeeze bottle of ketchup, squirted it at him. And missed! There was a shocked silence, then we all collapsed into a heap of giggles. The mess was worth it. And, no, he didn’t change his behaviour
Morning Mick, morning All from an increasingly soggy corner of Somerset.
Slept well after a tiring if hugely enjoyable day with good friends. So far the strong wind has passed us by, predicted for late morning.
May tackle BT about contract renewal, not my favourite task but needs doing. Other than that no idea other than moving laundry around.
Love the characterful quilt grandmattie. That is indeed excellent news luluaugust.
Hoping for improvement for all poorly folk. Stay safe if you’re impacted by the storm. Have the best day you can everyone.
Excellent news luluaugust relief all round.
Good morning from North Yorkshire. Another wet day but no stormy winds this far north.
gm you made me laugh out loud with your squirty bottle story!
Another day of indoor pottering, perhaps a little housework and some knitting. I’ll get my Mind course finished too. It is really good for something IT based.
Tomorrow I’m heading off to take DGS out to lunch in Derbyshire followed by Chatsworth on Saturday with my girls.
Stay safe in the storm.
Good morning everyone from a grey and wet Northampton; gusty winds forecast this afternoon.
Dodged the showers yesterday and got to the well-being cafe where it was nice to relax with my knitting and chat with friends.
Sainsbury's delivery this morning, a big order as I have ordered a few goodies for C*******s.
Dance classes after an early lunch.
No further news about my DSis in hospital in Somerset, just that the op to repair her hip went well. Her eldest daughter has travelled from Wiltshire to spend a few days to be with her.
Take care today if you're out and about.
Good morning all. Rain overnight but has stopped at the moment.
Have a blood test just after 10 am so must get going.
This afternoon is sewing group. DH will take and pick me up as I’m not yet driving again and it is too far for my daily walk.
Babysitting two youngest DHSs this evening. I have just spoken to the 2 year old on the phone and he gave me chapter and verse of what he is doing today. Maybe he should start a ‘Boysnet’ .
Hugs to all who need them and hope the day brings a smile for everyone.
Good morning everyone from south Manchester. It’s bright, 10°C and only just damp on the decking outside. We seem to have been spared Storm Ciarán here fortunately. Commiserations to all who were not so lucky.
Himself suggests we eat out, just the two of us, every Thursday evening. Not late of course as he can still get tired, but around 6pm we will go round the corner to our favourite Italian restaurant this evening. I shall order my favourite cocktail, a porn star martini while I check out the menu. We haven’t done this since March and I’m so excited!
I feel so very grateful for the time we have been given especially as my first thought this morning was of poor grandtante.
Here’s Matt.
x
Good morning Mick and everyone from damp Carlisle. We aren't due a storm here though it is due to get a bit wet and windy later. Another day indoors beckons. Yesterday morning the sun came out and I thought I would potter in the garden after lunch. However, it got unpleasantly windy and grey so it was indoors for me, reading and trying to spend money via the computer. It's actually a gift card and I know what I want but, after lots of research, can't find a satisfactory item.
I'm going to tackle the ironing shortly then have a bit of a clean up in the kitchen then on to more enjoyable things in the afternoon.
You must be relieved luluaugust....
That's a really original quilt grandMattie, lovely design and colours.
Let's hope the storm passes without anyone suffering unduly.
Good morning everyone and thank you all for your good wishes yesterday.
DH is home again safely. A couple of early phone calls yesterday with him not knowing what was happening and me being advised to stay put until he did. Then all of a sudden he was knocking on the front door! He’d got the all clear and phoned nephew who collected him. Of course not thinking of phoning me still worrying at home.
He’s had various tests including a brain scan but doesn’t know any results. The fact that his legs gave way doesn’t seem to have been addressed although his hearing is not as good as it was so he could have missed something.
All we can do now is wait until we see the specialist next week.
It’s pouring again now as it was on and off all day yesterday.
Glad the three Gransnatters had a good meet-up
Was this a brilliant typo or intended Taichinan?
Good morning from a grey, rainy NE yet again.
Solicitor arrived promptly and she went through all the paperwork with me and I was pleased I had not tried to do it myself.
DS still unwell so no shopping done but my sister said I could add items to her delivery.
DD rang and we had a long chat, it was a holiday in Brussels and she also has the rest of the week off from work. She has been working 12 hour shifts in the office because one third of the workforce are off sick.
Stay safe and dry if you are in the storm path.

I'm thinking of changing the name of The Glesca Grannies to the GlescaGransnatters.
. You can't get a word in edgeways, when we meet up.
