Grammaretto, I was lucky it was the meter which was faulty, not an appliance. They are obliged to replace it, because they cannot leave you without gas.
The engineer was fantastic and even checked my cooker and boiler to ensure everything was working.

Morning from Giffnock, a morning with DGD beckons as she is off school. She is creating a 3D scene to take to her art class on Friday so I only have to hand her scissors etc and restrain her over ambitious plans.

Later I am meeting a Gransnet pal and really looking forward to catching up. Starting having to factor in dark roads in planning as I just don’t drive in the dark anymore, eyesight problems and car headlights don’t mix well.

At the weekend 8 year old DGS asked his dad to play ‘Truth or a Dare. “Is Santa real?”. Poor dad just lied but DGS came out of school yesterday and immediately asked me how Santa could possibly visit every child in the world on one night?
Being semi prepared I obfuscated, but oh dear!
His eleven year old sister meanwhile is a total believer🥺. It is going to be a long six weeks!

Prayers continue for Gingsters DD and others who need them.

Good morning everyone from sunny Málaga. It’s so nice to be back in our ‘happy place’. Bittersweet of course in some ways and I was quite emotional at times yesterday.

The palm trees are dancing this morning. We have highs of 22°C again today but it’s only warm when on the sunny side of the street. (I think there’s a song in there somewhere that us oldies may remember! 🎵 🎶).

I have a hair appointment late morning for my wash and blow holiday treat in the salon below. Then LWW with dear friends. I will take tissues.

The bar where we meet closes at 4:30pm these days my friends tell me. It’s a tiny little Spanish tapas bar off the main drag but business is very slow these days and the lady who owns it wants to sell. Now she (back in the day, not now) used to make fabulous and different tapas. If she can’t make a loving from it, who can? Maybe it will open as a vape shop. They are springing up all over out here too I’m told. Sad times for Maria Carmen, the owner. She says she will go and work for someone in a bar. Covering her overheads has become too stressful.

Himself and I plan to eat in Pedro's on the corner below us at 6pm. Not late evenings for us these days but I’m so very grateful for whatever is possible in our ‘new normal’. Carpe diem indeed grandMattie.

Here’s Matt.

Good morning from, yet again, wet Sefton. Despite the rain coming down in stair rods yesterday, the considerable reduction of some trees and bushes in our garden went ahead, thank goodness.
A collection of an order, a catch up with a good friend and some returns constitute my day. I admit to laughing when one high street store’s website noted, “You’ve looked at this four times in the last seven hours.” C** Day apparel, Tesco food slots? What is this madness? 😂
Thinking of those with struggles and wishing everyone the best of days.

Good morning everyone. It's dry and there are patches of blue sky showing over the Angus coast, and it's 7°. Yesterday was a glorious day - definitely thought we'd gone back to September. Climate change with a vengeance!
The main event yesterday was my covid and flu jabs - no problems at all except for a slightly sore arm on the covid side this morning. So no problem anticipated with tai chi this morning, or the shopping which must follow.
Enjoy your trip out today Mick - and the all-day breakfast.
Grandmattie I hope all goes smoothly with your bathroom work.
That sounds like a wonderful trip with your DD Hollysteers - enjoy the heat - and the poolside cocktails 😉
Gingster I hope your DD got help and answers yesterday. So worrying for you all.
Now I must off and get this show on the road, as they say. That full-on (wonderful) weekend is catching up with me, but that's nothing that another good night's sleep won't cure - preferably in the next ten minutes!
Enjoy your day everyone, however it is spent x

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s much cooler again in South Yorkshire but dry at the moment. Rain is forecast later. I woke up in the night with a sore throat. A quiet day for me here. Homework to do for writer’s group tomorrow, some ironing and make an appointment to get my hair cut.
Ash good to hear OD is feeling better.
GM looks like serious leakage has been going on there! Be good to get that sorted!
Have the best day you can, folks.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 07-Nov-23 08:27:54

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. Gosh, a lot of you have had ‘exciting’ times!
I’m going to ring my cleaner today and if she’s still unwell I will make a concerted effort to clean the house! OH hoovers and I do everything else.
I need to get on with making C… lists. Some of you have talked about booking supermarket slots. I had better get on with it.
I should get up. Next door’s builders arrive at 8 am (they are having an extension which will overlook our conservatory) so no chance of any more sleep. Just saying that planning permission seems to be given Willy nilly these days. Someone three doors up has a large black cube like object over their garage.
Anyway, have a good day everyone. It’s so good to hear that the Urms are enjoying themselves.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 07-Nov-23 08:30:01

Oh dear MaryDoll never a dull moment in your home.

I use Waitrose for Christmas Delivery, they release their slots in September (nite to self must see what I put in my basket 🤣)

Dear Urmstongran lunch with your friends will be bittersweet, I hope you have more laughter than tears 😘😘

baubles Tue 07-Nov-23 08:31:11

Good morning all from bright South Lanarkshire.

I’m looking forward to meeting a Gransnetter friend for coffee later.

I haven’t read through the thread yet as I’ve been messaging my sister. If you can please spare a thought or a prayer for her DH who is on a ventilator having undergone emergency surgery last night. He’s been having treatment for cancer for months and has had complications arising from surgery which he had last week.

Have the best day possible everyone.

cornergran Tue 07-Nov-23 08:34:57

Morning Mick, morning All from a dry corner of Somerset. Hooray.

Decent day yesterday, enjoyed a morning faffing and managed to find all the practical stuff we needed at a large garden centre along with some suitable plants to take to two cemeteries.

Grocery order due then we’re off for a wander round a shopping mall. After lunch we’ll have a short visit to Wonder Woman, our (stressed) son and our live wire grandson. It will be good to see our daughter in law, reports have been far too short on detail.

Another here thinking about gingsters daughter. Oh maryd what a day! Good news on the sick bay front ash. 🤞 for a smooth bathroom renovation grandmattie. Ours was similar, quite a shock when we saw what was under the flooring. Enjoy every minute urms.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Gingster Tue 07-Nov-23 08:36:33

Good morning all and it’s a bright start.

Thank you all for your kind wishes and prayers for my Dd.
We spent 2 hours waiting for bloods to be taken. Then into A and E and stayed another 10 hours.😵‍💫.
They took more bloods and examined her thoroughly. Of course inbetween seeing each nurse or doctor was a 2 or more hours wait.. Bloods all ok so now she has to go to her GP for a referral to a Rheumatologist. So really no further forward 😤.
I have never seen so many people crammed in - standing room only as we left at 10 pm. People lying on the floor or across seats. The nurses /docs run off their feet. What’s to become of us!

Urms enjoy your lovely few days.
Lovely neighbours GM
Marydoll I hope today is restful for you. What a day you had. Other grannies can be awkward - ours too.😡.

Take care and Thankyou all again. So lovely to have friends ! ❤️

brook2704 Tue 07-Nov-23 08:37:55

Oh Baubles I’ll definitely keep your sisters husband in my thoughts today 💐

Marydoll Tue 07-Nov-23 08:38:18

Baubles, how awful for you all. Added to prayer list.

Liberty Tue 07-Nov-23 08:40:13

Good morning from another sunny Suffolk. I hope today is a less stressful one for those with difficulties yesterday. We too Marydoll have an ongoing battle with Shell over our monthly dd for our electricity. They accepted they were wrong in their calculations but still took over £740 from our account last month….after wanting a photo of our meter showing the serial number as well as the actual reading! Did they think it wasn’t our meter we were photographing!

I’m going to make our Christmas cake today. I have always made it during the October half term but was away so I’ve soaked the dried fruit in extra brandy to make up for the lost time.

Hoping Gingster’s DD was dealt with efficiently and speedily at A&E yesterday and got reassuring answers to her concerns.

Kalu Tue 07-Nov-23 08:45:16

Good morning all from Glasgow. Blue skies and sunshine again.

Yesterday was a hectic non stop type of day with various activities. An exhausting day which, after dinner I fell asleep.
More busyness this morning as I have to drop my car off soon for a service, collect a courtesy car, return DH’s signed V5 in Giffnock, 👋 Stilllearning and lastly, papers to be signed at our solicitors in your neck of the woods Baubles 👋

Hope all has been resolved for your DD Gingster

Results from DH’s bowel screening shows traces of blood which need investigating. A colonoscopy is out of the question but I am 99% positive I know the cause. Hope our GP agrees.

Best wishes to all for a peaceful day whatever your plans may be.

Pittcity Tue 07-Nov-23 08:46:30

Good morning from sunny Colchester. Another dry, 13° day.
It's Tuesday so I'm volunteering as usual. I come home "cream crackered" and veg out in front of Bake Off.
Love to all 🦩 x

keepcalmandcavachon Tue 07-Nov-23 08:48:19

Good morning everyone, so good to here Big Ben's Bongs again!
On the home strait now grandMattie, you'll have a lovely bathroom soon.
Hope you have a lovely time tonight Urmstongran, take care all x

RosiesMaw Tue 07-Nov-23 08:54:36

Good morning all from N Bucks where it is again sunny with a clear blue sky. The towels are out so who knows, they may be dry by the end of today, if not a quick tumble is allowed.
Nothing exciting planned, dental check up , no doubt telling off from dentist who will say I am not flossing, then I think M&S where I hope some wine-coloured velvet trousers I have ordered will have arrived. I hope they will go with this, but as Paw used to say, I have no visual imagination so my 💡 idea may turn out to be rubbish.
What a dreadful time some of you are having.
Marydoll , gas and water totally scare me and if things were otherwise I would probably not have gas in the house having had three alarming leaks in the past - now I come to think of it, same plumber. You’d think I’d learn.
With thoughts and prayers for those who are poorly or who have family worries I hope today will be kind to us all.

Urmstongran Tue 07-Nov-23 09:03:43

I will indeed add your brother in law to my thoughts baubles. So sorry to hear the news, it must be so distressing for you all. To go through cancer treatment, stressful in itself and battering to the body and yet now this to contend with. Poor man.
x

EkwaNimitee Tue 07-Nov-23 09:05:16

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny but chilly Carlisle.
A busy housework morning yesterday but more satisfying than wrestling on the computer in the afternoon trying to book a plane seat on a flight I have booked next year. They've mailed me this morning telling me to contact Services. How can this be so difficult!
Today I'm going to go through my summer clothes, I may or may not clear some out....I've been more successful with books, there's a bag full waiting to go to the charity shop.
I ought to go out for a walk and get exercise but will I?!

What a horrible way to spend a day for you both Gingster and not to get answers after all that. I hope your DD gets a diagnosis soon.
One dreads getting ill/unwell these days.

Marydoll you must have nerves of steel, you certainly need them. All the technology that runs our lives these days doesn't necessarily make them easier. oh for the good old days of the humble meter reader!

My thoughts and best wishes to your sister and DH Baubles. I hope all will be well soon.

Grammaretto Tue 07-Nov-23 09:13:11

Maw the colour combo sounds ok to me.
Hope the Urmstons have a fabulous time with their good friends. Plenty of laughs among the poignant moments.

Sorry to hear about your BiL Baubles sending healing thoughts.
What trials you are having Gingster
Hope today is much better.

cornergran Tue 07-Nov-23 09:15:56

Worrying news baubles. I’ll be thinking of you all.

Kalu Tue 07-Nov-23 09:20:47

How awful Baubles. Your poor BiL has been through so much. Sending healing vibes and strength to your DSis.

Grandmabatty Tue 07-Nov-23 09:26:16

Baubles I'm sending positive thoughts heavenward for your bil.

GrannySomerset Tue 07-Nov-23 09:26:48

Lovely morning as we embark on day 2 of the new hall floor. The trouble is that upstairs can of course only be accessed via the stairs and therefore the hall so life is somewhat circumscribed and the wonderful cleaner is going to have a frustrating morning. All much less frustrating than gM’s bathroom though, so just today and tomorrow to be got through and then I can reclaim my home.

Sorry about the gas saga, Marydoll, and hope there is no more to worry about. Power suppliers seem to be extraordinarily inefficient and Ovo have sent me an email about how much in credit I am followed the next day by a meter reader and then an email demanding readings, followed yesterday by another visit from the same meter reader. I now have a visit booked for Thursday from their Meter Team - you couldn’t make it up. Talk about the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing!

Meanwhile we have to enter and exit the house through the utility room so I had better get ready for supermarket shop. Think wine will have to be included today.
