Shrinkflation is so annoying

My husband checked the email confirmation for my online Tesco order last night to see if I’d forgotten anything we needed. Reaction? “ WHAT have you spent that much on! ! *”
Just the usual shopping dear, don’t you usually notice the price? Obviously not.
As for my typo earlier re -Andrew- toilet paper! Don’t care what it’s called as long as it does the job!

Have any of you purchased some club biscuits bars recently? The chocolate around them is wafer thin, we were so disappointed. I bit into a Mint Club Bar and I was amazed how thin the chocolate is now.

Annesixty Toithpaste has shrunk a lot. Now 75ml - used to be 100. Never saw a 75 ml before the cost of living crisis. 100ml now used to be 125. The 125 is quite difficult to find, probably as you'd need a mortgage to buy it! Prices on all sizes have increased.

There was a recent article in CBC regarding shrinkflation, as well as ingredient substitution.

Certain chocolate-covered treats now have a 'chocolaty coating'.
Apparently there are standards in the amount of cocoa mass and cocoa butter. UK have higher standards than Canada, and US are even less (which is why we tend not to like US chocolate).

My favourite is a KitKat bar, which is still considered milk chocolate, but I have noticed Coffee Crisps now have a 'chocolaty coating' which doesn't meet standards to be considered milk chocolate.

It's important to read labels.

Primrose53 I still get 6 muller corners in my Tesco, the Muller Bliss comes in 4 and always has done. The Lemon Bliss is my favourite, I buy 10 packets when they are on special at £ 1.50, they last perfectly alright past sell by, but I usually manage to eat them before anyway. Most chocolate bars are shrinking and either staying the same or going up in prize.

It would be o.k. they shrank the size IF they were clear about it! Like "we didn't augment the price of your favourite butter but the size is a bit smaller". Now they keep people guessing - and needing their reading glasses the whole time 🤷🏼‍♀️

Patent shampoo and conditione. XL used to be 500mls, just bought some more and the same product XL is 350mls not 500mls!

Why has the price of a box of tissues increased ?. I used to pay 45p and they are now £1.35
I can start it off by recommending the chocolate biscuit bars "Choc Attack" from Lidl and is an alternative to KIT KAT. and cheaper.

The contents of the tubs of Roses chocolates have also shrunk, I think the tubs look the same size, but definitely fewer chocs.

We have used Cushelle toilet paper for years and been pleased with the quality. I recently bought a pack of 6 rolls and am so disappointed to find it is single ply and very thin. So much for the blurb on the wrapping saying how wonderful it is. Another example of shrinkflation. I think I will make paper flowers with it.

Try the quilted version without a cardboard tube rubysong. The rolls are enormous and the quality excellent.

I usually buy Andrex, but on two occasions bought Cushelle tubeless to try. The 2nd one was awful the sheets were thin and rough…

I found it rough too.

Since Cadbury’s were taken over by Kraft a few years ago, they’ve slowly changed the milk chocolate over the years, until it’s reached the taste it is now. It’s getting very much like American candy. They deny it, but there’s a lot of stuff online about it. No doubt cheaper ingredients.
I no longer buy it either, as it’s nothing like it was. I tend to prefer a good quality dark chocolate instead nowadays.

No we don't buy Cadbury's milk chocolate either, it's really nasty now and doesn't taste at all the same. Sadly I don't like dark chocolate.

Weirdly the boxes of Kleenex balsalm seem to be much deeper now, I'm not sure of the price change because I don't buy them often.

There is Gammon joint I buy and that has definitely shrunk in size, I think it used to be 1kg and has gone down to 700 grms, I know we used to get 2 good meals and a lunch out of it before, but just scraped the 2 meals last time. Price has increased too.

I agree, I cook it on the hob and we have it hot, then cold with jacket potatoes and later sliced for sandwiches. The new small size leaves not for sarnies and not much with the jackets!

Oh, shocking to hear about the 10-packs of eggs. They haven't started doing that here yet.
