A question about quoting on Gransnet

I wonder if it's possible to quote just part someone's post, rather than all of it. Sometimes I'd like to respond to something that someone has said but have to quote the whole lot 🤔.
Many thanks.

I never realised everyone didn’t use the copy and paste method I always imagined everyone was light years ahead of me in the tech department 🤣

I double checked, my phone is on desktop mode. I much prefer it, so easy to use. I am PC girl, so I'm used to that interface
I do the same Marydoll my iphone and iPad are on desktop not mobile I like the layout so much better .

PamelaJ1 Sat 11-Nov-23 07:53:00

That was on my iPad. )
I did it👏🏻 I always knew how to get copy up but I didn’t know you just put your finger in the message box and paste comes up,

Hmm, no quotation marks, will try again "checking for quotation marks".

Fairycakes
I'm just trying this out on a Pixel phone. Checking this shows up as a quote in italics and that this bit will be underlined

Every day is a schol day on GN! 🤣

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 20:34:31

yay! I've finally done it. Gosh! I feel exhausted after all that concentration 🥱😴

Marydoll Fri 10-Nov-23 20:34:19

Hooray!

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 20:31:41

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 20:30:56

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 20:30:17

^Samsung Android phone.
Yay! I worked it out 😁👍

but I don't know how to get the inverted 'v' sign on my phone

I didn't either, but I think I've worked it out.

Marydoll Fri 10-Nov-23 19:59:00

Samsung Android phone.

Marydoll Fri 10-Nov-23 19:58:31

I have just done it on my Samsung Android.

I pressed the !#1 key , used the ^ key at either end of the word and it worked. No palaver at all. I don't use the mobile site. I kept my interface as desktop on all my devices. I don't like teh mobile site.
Could this be the answer?

V3ra Fri 10-Nov-23 19:45:24

For my Google Pixel android phone I have to:

press the key with
?123
followed by the key with
=\<
to find the key with
^

I hadn't realised it was such a palaver until I just checked 🤣

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 19:36:07

I've found the inverted v but it doesn't do anything when I click on it.

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 19:26:43

! #1 is this right?
It didnt work! 🤣🤣🤣

Marydoll Fri 10-Nov-23 19:09:35

DH has spent just two hours sorting email problem. It took me ten minutes. I haven't lost my touch! 😉

Marydoll Fri 10-Nov-23 19:07:49

Fairycakes

So I can't put her name in italics

if you press the !#1 key on your phone, you should get the inverted v.
This key is the equivalent of the shift key.

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 18:41:33

So I can't put her name in italics

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 18:40:34

Thanks all. It makes things much easier. (Doodle).

I've tried out the copy and paste from Doodle's post above, but I don't know how to get the inverted 'v' sign on my phone. I can see it on the 'w' key but don't know how to access it. If I press the key I just get 'w' 🤔😏

Doodle Fri 10-Nov-23 16:29:23

I didn’t realise you could do that either. I didn’t know that on the iPad if you put your finger on the text and hold it there the highlighter appears and you can select the text you want.
Thanks all. It makes things much easier.

Fairycakes Fri 10-Nov-23 16:26:49

Thank you. I'll try it out next time and see if I can get it to work 😁

Marydoll Fri 10-Nov-23 16:19:45

Beechnut

^^only assume, they do not know how to copy and paste.^^

You’re right Marydoll I didn’t know, but I do now. Thank you 😀

Always happy to help! 😉
