Good morning all.
Yesterday was the first really bad day in the 18 months we’ve been looking after DGS2 for one day a week. It was as if he had been possessed by demons. He refused to take his woollen jacket off and would not eat any breakfast for an hour. We then went to Marlborough and had a short walk by the river and fed the ducks and he was quite cheery then. After that we went to Waitrose where he decided he would be the child from hell. He’s never done this before. So if you were in the shop around 10:44am Cornergran the commotion was probably us. Then he refused to eat lunch or even sit down with us to eat. After his nap he was like a changed child, beck to his normal self and he ate a sandwich. He said he’d had a dream in his head about a fire during the previous night (not bad coming from a two and a half year old). He is obsessed with Fireman Sam. It all left me very unsettled.
BlueSapphire I live in Calne. However, unlike you said I’m not on keen living here. There is so little to do and most of the retail outlets are fast food outlets, Turkish barbers (what’s that all about!) Hairdressers and charity shops. However, the surrounding countryside is lovely.
Wishing everyone a good day.

Good Morning Wednesday 22nd November 2023
(54 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
A dark but dry start here in brackley this morning.
Todays plans due the usual in Bicester using the bus , hopefully try and start to Xmas shop mainly gift cards in my case .
I noticed the scar from my surgery as gone ,and my system is more or less back to normal.
Take Care,
Mick
Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s brightening up after overnight rain.
I’m off walking on the Hambleton Hills today.. I need to get a move on and get ready!
Wishing you all a good day
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.
Morning all 👋
My sleep pattern is all over the place, I woke at 1.30am and didn’t get back to sleep until
5 ish, I feel exhausted and somewhat tetchy
Off to the gym then I am expecting some parcels to be delivered.
Have a great day 🙋♀️🦩
Good morning everyone.
Pleased to hear good news from Oops and Mick.
The decorator has just arrived to paint and freshen up the kitchen. A lovely chap who is the husband of One of DD3s friends.
I am meeting DD3 and smallest DGS for lunch today at a local restaurant.
Some sewing later, hoping to at last finish the soldier I started last year, nearly there !
Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where its 12°C.
It's good to hear you sounding more positive Mick. I hope your meal goes well, GM, I would give anything to be taller, being short and heavy has its own challenges. 😉
Ash, I have a number of crowns and the last part, the fitting, has never needed numbing. It was painless. I hope your experience is the same.
Oops, I am so pleased for you, that it is not as serious as thought. Every time I go for a chest xray, I have to advise the clinician that the suspicious area on my xray, is in fact the bone cement, which is holding my fractured vertebrae together. It has caused much consternation in the past. 😉
I can share your frustration about the cough. Yesterday my lung hurt so much from the non stop coughing, when I was out in the very cold area. I was so embarrassed, when in the opticians.
I felt I should be ringing a bell and shouting ^unclean*
DH and I needed new prescriptions ( £ ouch!) DH's is simple, but mine much more complicated and expensive. I am always overcome by the choices and can never make up my mind. The problem is that I don't know what I look like, when I try the frames on, because I can't see. 😂 I chose one bling and one more neutral frame.
My cataracts are not ripe enough for surgery, but are the reason, I find driving in the dark difficult and yet again, needing a new prescription.
I have a hairdresser's appointment this afternoon, which is a great social event. I get to hear all the local gossip.
I wish you all the best of days, especially the poorlies. GMB, try to get rest if DGS has a nap. We need you well enough to come to the neet up. Fingers crossed Grammaretto, or you won't be able to come either!
Good morning all and we’ve had a beautiful sunrise here on the Suffolk coast. The journey up was trouble free and it’s lovely to be back for a few days.
When we arrived the boiler wouldn’t fire up 😤. 18 months new. Couldn’t get hold of our plumber but Dh managed to ‘fix’ it.😳. Fingers crossed !
We lit our woodburner and was soon cosy and warm.
The new steps down to the beach look good. Still more work to be done and our lovely handyman is coming tomorrow.
The garden looks tidy so not much to do out there.
Today we’ll walk the dog in the forest to see the autumn colours and collect some chestnuts if the Squirrels have left any for us. A bit of shopping and then the afternoon reading the rest of my ‘book club’ book. Meeting is tomorrow and it was my recommendation so I must get on with it. I’ll take it into the summerhouse with a blanket and listen to the sea. Total escapism! ☺️.
oops great news for you 🙏.
GM I can’t imagine how you could feel ‘inadequate and inarticulate’. You are anything but! 👍.
Enjoy your day and take care everyone 🍂🍁
Morning all from West Oxfordshire.
I’m looking forward to driving up to Kew later where I’m staying with elder son and his family for three nights. Mainly to take granddaughter to school and back. Son is an Army Intelligence reservist and is spending a week away. His partner takes keep fit classes at all sorts of hours. On Saturday I’m meeting younger son for a visit to the Holbein exhibition at the Queen’s Gallery. Then I’ll drive back home.
In the meantime OH will be at home, looking after the cats and going to a Bee Social.
Have a good day everyone - I hope that bathroom is finished soon GM. Our neighbours are having a one storey extension to the back of their house. It’s interesting watching it’s progress.
Morning fromSouth Lanarkshire, still dark but no rain I think.
So glad you’re feeling better at last Mick and my fingers are very much crossed for you Mizuna. Really good news from you this morning Oops, I’m happy for you.
Gramdmabatty you sound weary, I hope your DGC cooperate and the day goes well.
I received news last night that my cousin died after a short illness. She was at home with her daughter and that would be just how she wanted it to be. She was quite a character, extremely positive and still in a ballroom dancing club at 87.
I never heard her say an unkind word and after a long and happy marriage she gave widowhood her best shot, I’m quite sad.
Exercise class today and packing for leaving tomorrow for a few days with my Oban family. As well as seeing them of course, I am looking forward to the train journey, if the rain stays away the journey is beautiful.
Hoping yesterday went okay Urms and wishing everyone a good day.
Good morning from South Lanarkshire where it’s lashing down.
I’m so pleased for you Oops.
We’re off to a loch side hotel today, just for one night, if this weather keeps up we won’t be able see the loch.
If anyone has any idea where I may have put three pairs of DH’s swimming shorts could you let me know please? I turned the house upside down yesterday after discovering that they weren’t in their proper place, eventually an emergency run to Asda was required to buy the only pair they had in DH’s size.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning from a still and oh so slightly sunny Suffolk.
Yesterday I met one of my closest friends for coffee which extended into lunch and then almost afternoon tea only stopped by the fact that we both wanted to drive home before it got dark. I hadn’t seen her since my holiday in India so lots to catch up with.
Today I have my keep fit class and then I suppose some house based tasks. I’m off to London on Friday for a long weekend with my 4 dear school friends so should leave DH with a tidy house and full fridge( although he is capable of course of doing this himself!).
Good to hear positive progress with some people’s health issues and hope that those awaiting news soon get what they want to hear.
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it sounds windy and looks wet
Good health news Oops and mick so pleased for you both
Happy Birthday to your DD gMattie hope the meal goes well and enjoy the family time. I too always feel a bit uncomfortable when I’m with DD1s in-laws. I just don’t know what they think of me as we’re so very different. DD1 seems to get on well with them though so that’s the main thing
Love the picture mizuna that’s a very big pipe ! Hoping there’s good news today about your op
I’m off to the gym this morning then looking forward to picking up DGD from school later and bringing her back here for a sleepover.
Hope the dentist goes well Ash even though it’s later in the day than planned.
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning from a dry, chilly Colchester where the sun is peeking out from a pinkish sky.
Wednesday morning coffee meetup in the city centre as usual. Probably a supermarket trip this afternoon as it doesn't look as if DH is going fishing this week. He'll therefore need feeding at home.
Love to all 🦩 x
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a cold and currently dark South Yorkshire. At least it’s dry. Yesterday afternoon I spent a couple of hours at one of our local junior schools listening to year three children read one to one with me. They were all very sweet. Though they all had English as their first language, it made me realise the difficulties the English language presents for those learning to read when a single letter can change the whole tenor and meaning of a word and stop them in their tracks. We take it for granted and never give it a thought.
I had a long chat with my best friend last night who is really not very well and in a lot of pain, but not getting much help from her surgery.
Writer’s group at the library today.
Have the best day you can folks.
Morning Mick, morning All. Think it’s dry out there, soggy for sure.
A very damp Avebury worked it’s magic yesterday, the Manor beautifully decorated, the stones as calming as ever, excellent cake in the cafe.
Marlborough after breakfast for a short wander before meeting a friend for coffee, not seen her for a year, lots of catching up. A visit to my parents grave, some shopping and we hope a chance to stop off with Wonder Woman before returning home. Phew. All good though,
Good news mick and oops. Oh heck ash. A definite 🤞 for you, mizuma and anyone else waiting for news.
Hope Wednesday is kind to us all.
Good morning from a chilly, dry and windless South Downs - at last!
Had a day of doing very little yesterday which was pleasant and relaxing.
Today out for lunch, then to Nymans NT house and garden to see the Nutcrackers and Christmas decorations. We usually take the dogs into the parkland grounds but it is in a deep valley and a series of lakes, so with the rain we have been having, it will be impossibly muddy I think. We shall take the dog into the main gardens instead (he has an allotted time).
oops 👍👍
mizuma 🤞🤞🤞
Peace and harmony to all
Hope the day goes well Grandmabatty and that the boys are good for you🤞🏻
Good morning from Shropshire.A dry day forecast.
I had a lovely morning yesterday. My friend came over and we had a really good chat. The afternoon was spent reading.
Today we are finally taking the car into the garage. We will have a coffee in town before the walk home.I then need to do some Welsh homework🤯
Good news Mick and Oops.
Have the best day you can everyone.🌺🦩
Good morning from s somerset, dry and cool now but dull gloom later
Unusually, I feel like pancakes for breakfast, now mixed and I will cook in 30 minutes. A nice way to use an egg and milk. Comfort food I suppose
I had a log fire again yesterday and I have learnt, by trial and error, how to keep it low but cheerful. I like that the stove keeps the room warm all night, even though the fire dies down about an hour before bedtime
I have sewing to finish today, I have only been doing an hour at a time in order to slow down. A pretty patterned needlecord dress with full skirt and short sleeves, for layering to see me through the three cooler seasons
Have a good day
Good morning from a chilly but dry Torbay.
Good to hear your news, Oopsadaisy1; you must be relieved. I’m glad to hear you sounding positive, Mick. I'm sure the celebratory meal will go better than you expect, grandMattie. Things about which we are apprehensive often do, I find. I hope today goes better than you expect, too, Grandmabatty, with DGS2. Everything seems more of a challenge when we're tired.
Well, my plans for today are in disarray! It should have been: dentist, Wednesday Club, Zoom with DH then a rehearsal in the evening. Yesterday afternoon the dental receptionist rang to say my new crown hadn't arrived so they would provisionally book me in for 4.00 p.m. instead of 10.00a.m. I was not happy, especially as my dentist only works at the practice once a fortnight! If I have treatment that late in the day, I’ll be at the rehearsal with a mouth more crooked than normal!
Happy hump day! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩
Morning, it’s chilly in S Hants, I was awake so rather than fidget, got up.
Great news Oops and for you Mick, pleased to read both posts.
I know what you mean gMattie at 5’11” I’ve often felt ungainly, but I’m sure you’re not seen as such, I hope you have a pleasant meal.
After a GP appointment yesterday it’s confirmed I need a hernia op, I’m not surprised, I doubt it’ll be speedy.
Today I’ve to find some gifts I put in a ‘safe place’ ready for a family meal on Sunday. Out for a walk later, the cooling weather means my natural dawdling ups pace.
I hope yesterday was straightword for Urms and himself.
🦩🦩
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. The wind getting up but it's not cold. I have a cold. I hope it's not covid so will try to buy test kits today.
I'm glad to hear you have made a really good recovery from the surgery Mick
Good news Oops I hope you get rid of the cough soon.
Enjoy DD's birthday gMattie . Let the others talk and enjoy the DGC. and the food
I have yarn group today but may call off to spare the group my germs.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning from Cornwall where it is still and mild and no rain is forecast. I must fill my green recycling bag in case it's the last time I can do it before my op. Oh, but I still haven't heard back about the op, so that's a pipe dream! Talking of pipes, here's my son sitting in a very large one, just because I felt like posting a silly pic.
So many kind wishes from so many of you yesterday I was moved to tears. Need to give myself a stiff talking-to today, get me to a beach somewhere, do some beachcombing and get my mind off my preoccupation with things medical. Yearning to do a painting but no point in starting one in case I have an op... oops, there I go again. Talking of oops, such good lung news for you, what a relief.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and raining. Mick and Oops good health news from you both. GrandMattie happy birthday to your dd. I'm sure the dinner will be fine.
Yesterday was a good day with dgs2. Today will be more of the same with added tiredness. I, too, had a bad night which will make childcare extra challenging. So it goes. Have a good day all
Good morning, another damp start here in south Gloucestershire.
Oh dear grandMattie, I’m sure you’re feelings about your DD’s in-laws aren’t so but I know exactly what you mean because my DDIL’s parents are very slim and petite and I’m not! I hope you have a lovely dinner together for your DD’s birthday 🎂
Yesterday’s plans to start tidying the garden are on hold. I had several big bumblebees and numerous other insects busy on the cerinthe and other plants so I didn’t want to deprive them of their nectar sources by cutting everything back 🤷🏼♀️
It certainly won’t matter if the garden looks increasingly tatty for a while longer.
Instead I walked the dog and carried on crocheting the blanket, it’s growing very slowly……
Today more of of the same!
