Christmas Pudding versus Panettone?

My DH has chocolate log I have Christmas pudding panettone is not a preference here for Christmas Day. DH likes panettone with a cup of tea over the holiday I don’t like it at all.

I love Christmas pudding I don't know any of the younger generation who do though. No one asked when I was growing up whether it would be something you liked,it was just put in front of us with the assumption it would be eaten. I suppose it is quite a rich food for young children but I've always loved it and it's a once a year treat. Having said that Panatonne is also lovely, surely there could never be anything unpalatable coming out of Italy! Not comparable to CP though it's texture is more bread like. I also love Stollen mmmm!

I don't care for panettone, it doesn't know whether it's a cake or bread.
My DD and family love it and buy a big one every year.
Give me a Christmas pudding. I'd eat that any day of the week.

I make my puds, though - not keen on shop ones - too dark, dense and heavy. I use an old GH recipe - people who don’t usually like Christmas pud often like it - but I always say nobody must ever feel obliged to have any - it’s such a waste, giving it to people who don’t really like it.

Dh and I will often be eating the 2nd one well into January.

I’ve never bought panettone. We were once given one, and TBH it was very dry and nothing to shout about at all - most of it ended up on the bird table.

Pannetone - in the days before Christmas add brandy thro little skewer holes. cut whole cake in half horizontally and put in mascarpone - drizzle whole cake with liquid chocolate. Delicious!

Really like both. Never liked meringue much too sugary and sweet

Christmas pudding is far too rich for me, as is Christmas cake. I love Panettone, but don't eat it on the day. In fact I bought a mini one which I ate weeks ago!

I won't buy either, but I have made three Christmas puddings.

As the family (7 of us) will be here for a week, they will all get eaten. I make my puddings entirely with breadcrumbs, no flour at all, so they are beautifully light and DDiL will eat my CjChristmas puddings where she doesn't eat others.

My tummy won't tolerate Christmas pud or mince pies any more, but happily a kind neighbour left an Aldi Pannetone on my doorstep last year and I tried it for the first time. Oh my, my what a delicious discovery! How lovely is that!

Thanks for the tips on what to do with pannetone! I’ve been gifted with some 2 years running and was underwhelmed, but then I did just eat it as it was! Toasted with coffee sounds good!
Post turkey, it’s always home made Christmas pudding with brandy sauce.

Love them both. But only get Panatone made in Italy from our local Italian deli. It’s delicious!

We have an Italian deli locally so my husband is able to feed his panettone habit all year round. I can take it or leave it, though it is delicious in a bread and butter pudding.

Similarly we buy enough Christmas puddings to see us through to the following December - in fact we’ll be eating our last one from 2022 tomorrow. Like puppies, we think it’s not just for Christmas. 😂

For Panettone lovers - try it as French toast for another breakfast delicacy.

Christmas pudding every time. Until a couple of years ago I always made my own - traditional recipe handed down from my mother. Six old silver threepenny bits wrapped in greaseproof paper concealed in the pud. DD1 surprised us last year by presenting me with a pudding she had made from the original recipe. This year she's had a busy and difficult year so not sure if the same will happen again. I've bought an M&S Christmas pudding as a stand in but I'm secretly hoping a traditional family pud might turn up...

Sorry everyone but I think christmas pudding is mainly liked by older people.

Last January they were so many unsold and piled high in Tescos after Christmas.

Wonder why they'd even try to compare the two - Pannetone v Christmas Pudding - since one's a traditional Italian Christmas fruit bread, the other a British traditional Christmas pud.
Chalk and cheese, really. Much more sensible if they'd looked at their sales of Pannetone against something like Stollen. Weird!

I’ve made the Christmas puddings weeks ago, and am toying with the idea of making a panettone - I often make a stollen but might try something lighter this year.

Panettone for me! I find Christmas pudding far to rich and filling after Christmas dinner. It's really all about personal taste go with whichever you prefer or be indulgent and have both!

Maybe the reason panettone outsells Christmas pudding is because so many make their own puddings? I don't know anyone who makes panettone, although I know some people do.

I love Christmas pudding but also buy a panettone to make into a bread & butter pudding.

No contest. It has to be Christmas pud. You wouldn't want brandy butter with Panettone would you...........!! My favourite treat (so good for your cholesterol levels btw) is to fry (!) the remains of the xmas pud in the remains of brandy butter a few days after Xmas.

The younger generation don't particularly like Christmas pudding my children and grandchildren dislike it they much prefer something lighter.

Myself I like both.
