Christmas Pudding versus Panettone?

Totally agree Margs. Christmas isn't Christmas without the Christmas pud and lashings of cream.

We bought two of each! Panettone makes delicious bread and butter pudding! I also like leftover Christmas Puffing fried in butter. The outer layer goes crispy.

Pannetone is great. My husband loves it in the run up to Christmas, sliced and buttered. But on Christmas day my homemade Christmas pudding is his choice with large dollops of brandy cream. In the New Year if pannetone is on sale he will buy it to have buttered or made into bread and butter pudding.

Surely nobody is choosing panettone as a pudding.
It's usually served like a brioche, surely?
Unless it's a filled version which is more like a cake?

Pannetone will presumably outsell Christmas pudding though as you will only buy one pudding I'd think and may buy several of the others - for eating and for gifts?

We wouldn't have panettone for Christmas dinner - it's Christmas pudding, trifle or Yule log. Panettone is lovely at other times though, especially for those not keen on Christmas cake or mince pies.

I don’t think you can compare them - it’s like comparing the toast you have for your breakfast with a trifle, as one’s a bread and ones a dessert, so you don’t eat them at the same meal? Of the two I prefer panettone though, I’m not mad about Christmas pudding.

Surely, they are not interchangeable. One is breakfast and one it pud. One can be toasted or made into bread pudding, the other a pudding or fried in butter the next day.

I've never understood panettone is for. Is it cake? Is it bread? What to do with the stuff?

It’s a bread, perfect with coffee for breakfast.

Panettone makes a great present, and I would have it as part of xmas tea/ boxing day tea yum!

Can you serve a panettone flambé? If not, then it cannot replace Christmas pudding.

Surely most of us still have a Christmas pudding even if we have several panettones over the festive period.

Made over two or three days in smaller batches is the way to go! Yum.

Neither thank you. Dislike them both (hides behind the sofa). It’s home made meringue and fruit with Cointreau cream for me. Mr C, a traditionalist, hopes for an unreasonably large portion Christmas pudding with brandy cream, never brandy butter.

Neither of us are fond of Panettone. No, I’m not sure why either. Any received as a gift are shared amongst the neighbours.

I like both. What about a dollop of panettone alongside the Chrissie pudding? We always have a big bowl of fresh fruit,too and pavlova for those who like it (not me, too sweet)

How do you "dollop" a cake like Panettone?
I love it though and it does make a wonderful Bread and Butter Pudding.

Can I join you behind the settee Cornergran? I don't think much of either of them and always make a pavlova.

Not fussed about either of them. We’ll just have the main meal, possibly ice cream later in the day, neither of us have a particularly sweet tooth.

I do love Christmas pudding. Once a year only it's just right.
