Having to enter my year of birth on a web site and feeling the lactic acid build in your hand as you keep scrolling back and back or hearing a song a thinking that must be a new one I don't remember it, it must be after my "time" , yes it was but it is from the 90s which is 30 years ago ..how is that possible aren't the 70s only 30 years ago 🤔

A few weeks ago , a lady grabbed my arm and insisted on helping ne cross the road !

I caught a fragment of a TV comedy show in which - Rob Beckett thought it amusing to make fun of elderly people and he hopes that he doesn't live into his seventies .
I don't remember his exact words only the gist .
Other comedians joined in .
I hope that it's repeated so I can remember who not to watch in future .

If I'd been in the audience : I would have heckled him !

I feel old when giving my date of birth out in front of everybody to receptionists in Dentist..doctors hospitals even sometimes Banks but especially estate agents. Wished we all had ID cards and we could just hand it over...

I feel young inside and yet the mirror says something else! The last time I went to the drs I mentioned a few brown patches on my face. He pointed out that they are age spots. I cannot say my age out loud.

Not being able to play on the floor with my GC.

Ditto!
Well, I could, just about, but it’s the getting up again…

Worst thing is probably looking in a mirror with my glasses on - funny how much less ancient I look without them!

Having a daughter who’s in her fifties. 😱

Fortunately I also have a son who’s barely in his thirties, so people usually assume I’m younger than I am. 😂

Just ask them who sneezed

When i speak to doctors ,nurses or young people in general and they say "oh bless you "it makes me cringe .

Autocorrect has started changing my name to a modern version of it. Evidently a 1940s name is now unrecognisable. I suppose if your name is Ethelred you’ve had this problem for a while.

Looking in the mirror and having to admit the old lady looking back is me!!
And finding my childhood memories in antique shops. I once found an old telephone directory for the area of my childhood and looked it up - yes, my dad's name was there with the telephone number I remembered!

friends listing their ailments, looking in the mirror, not wanting to drive at night.

Singing carols, knowing all the words by heart as I have been singing them for over 70 years.

Wow! that would have made me feel great, especially the fact that you also receive higher fuel allowance than she did. Must have made her so annoyed.

Agree with Foxie48 the all round mirrors and lighting in changing rooms showing up all the wrinkles and cellulite, (have to delete that picture from my memory).

chocolatelovinggran "modern collectibles" ooh yes- rare, sought after and desirable!

Sickofweddingcake Tue 19-Dec-23 21:08:54

Trying, consciously, to make my mouth into a slight smile as my bottom lip seems to have shaped itself into a letter 'n'.
Not the best look!

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 19-Dec-23 12:26:05

An antique dealer friend says that we 70+ folk are not yet antiques. We are " modern collectibles ".

I was taken by my much younger friends to a 2nd hand furniture depot when I was looking for a kitchen dresser.
They showed me what they liked which was 1960's G-plan. It's fashionable apparently, along with Ercol and Lloyd Loom
They were disappointed that I didn't like it. It reminds me too much of my friends' parents' houses when I was a child so made me feel old.
I ended up getting a pine dresser which matches the rest of my 70's kitchen.
The young friends are puzzled. 😊

University Challenge.
The incredible speed and quick thinking of highly intelligent young people combined with the tragic and astonishing gaps in their knowledge.

Very often, Mid-century is used to describe furniture of the seventies. THAT is really shocking.

Bigred18 Tue 19-Dec-23 04:25:14

Furniture for sale, described as antique/mid century - meaning 1950 or thereabouts!

LovelyLady Mon 18-Dec-23 22:36:11

Looking at my double chin, and wrinkled body. elastic wastes, water pills, age marks on my hand. family saying you need a security door bell.
Family thinking I should to a bungalow as I’m slow on the stairs.
I detest the funeral ads., and the ads. talking about ensuring family are cared for.
My biggest concern is when journalists talk about government wanting the elderly ‘pensioners’ gone to save money.
Yes I feel my age!

It's a wonder anyone buys anything after seeing their reflection in those mirrors: they're brutal!

Hetty58 Mon 18-Dec-23 20:39:47

Wondering whether my present admirer has dementia (he must have, I believe, to fancy me).

Gwyllt Mon 18-Dec-23 20:18:00

Two new hips made me feel st least ten years younger.
