Long gone are the days when I could hold my list in my head. I now rely on shopping list on phone app and everything else written down.

Christmas list done?
(49 Posts)Just for fun, how are you going with your list for Christmas?
I've got:
2 last minute gifts for children
Birthday card to buy for DH
start packing for visit to DD on 28th (at least get the suitcase out)
I think everything else is done. I've got all needed food for Christmas dinner. I feel ahead of the game this year!
I'd bought and wrapped all gifts by mid-October, distributed by mid-November.
On my own over the holiday (as always), so it's just another day for me, so no need for ridiculously priced/extravagant food, I've just put a stew in the pot, or if I don't fancy it, there's a pizza and plenty of other food in the fridge and freezer for me to choose from.
Won't be seeing anyone until next year, so the front door is locked, the lights and tv are off, I'll switch my phone off tonight, take my usual triple dose of all my meds tomorrow and aim to sleep through the following 2-3 days.
My Christmas pretty much arrived this morning with the mail. For about three weeks I've been awaiting delivery of two very significant gifts from different companies.. I had pretty much given up hope when, hallelujah, both parcels were lying in my porch when I came down this morning. Merry Christmas for me and I wish for all of you on here. Yippee!
Ready here except for three last minute bubble bath presents for the GC - my click and collect has failed to arrive at Boots. Everything else is wrapped. We've cut back a lot on presents this year, the children always seem to be overwhelmed by their gifts so we're also giving them some money to get anything they really want or to buy something later in the year.
My big food order comes on Sunday and I'll get the vegetables prepared after that.
Smoked salmon starter with bread and butter, cockerel and turkey crown main course with loads of vegetables, various stuffings, sausages and home made cranberry sauce. Pudding is a rather nice white chocolate Yule log type thing with passionfruit sauce from M&S or pick-your-own trifle made up by GC.
If any food shopping fails to turn up I have fall-backs, but Ocado are pretty reliable and everything has been on order since early October.
My GC like yorkshire pudding with everything so we'll have that too.
just got brandy butter to make to take to bro and sister in law on Christmas day. I've got a cold and a sore throat and seem to be coming down with the cough that is doing the rounds. Hubby has a slight temp and is possibly running an infection!!! Great........
Happy Healthy Christmas everyone out there.
Everything is bought, wrapped and mostly delivered. Food is in the fridge. I'm going to my dds for breakfast then dinner later. The food I have are treats for me on Boxing Day and beyond. Tomorrow I'll deliver the last present. Then I'll make cranberry relish a la Delia and prepare the bread sauce for my sil.
The only list I’ve got now is all the things I need to take to DD’s tomorrow - a lot of the food, as well as presents. Don’t want a repeat of some years ago when I forgot the brandy butter. 😱
DH finished the last of the wrapping this afternoon, now everything is labelled and bagged. This year includes 4 gift bags for family pets, three dogs and a cat....
I've double checked my latest list- she's making a list, 🎵checking it twice - and it looks like we're done!
Ds3 and lovely partner came by for lunch and left with their Christmas stockings ... he will be forty in the New Year, but they have no children so they get stockings, just like the grandchildren.
Tomorrow's list involves dropping off presents to my sisters and brother, and to the housebound ladies I visit regularly.
Then the final list will be for all the bags, and food, we take to family on Christmas day. This year we are having brunch with Ds2 and family, then dinner with Ds1 and family. Ds3 and lovely partner will accompany us to both. So, over the course of the day we will see all three sons, partners and grandchildren. I'm very thankful for that.
Now is when I worry I've forgotten something... my memory is mush these days, hence the daily lists.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas.
Grannmarie I do stockings for my daughter and son in law. They were aghast when I suggested stopping!
Deejaysmum, that sounds a bit dangerous. You can come on here for Christmas company.
Grandmabatty, after the grandchildren came along, I returned the stockings to the parents, and suggested that they could fill each others whilst I would do a new stocking for the grandchild.
It's amazing how adults love stockings. I started one for DH a few years ago after he said he had never had one... I hadn't realised that not all families have a stocking tradition.
I write lists for shopping on a regular basis, and have a Christmas Card address book. All cards posted at end of November (a couple for USA) and neighbours hand delivered.
Food shopping done. Prep for Christmas Day will be done today (Sunday).
Just me (and my three cats) for Christmas, so not a lot to do.
I will be going by train to Birmingham on the 28th December, to see my Neice, just for the day.
Off to Church later and again on Christmas Day.
I believe we're ready for Church today, Advent dinner, and the makings of Christmas dinner tomorrow. We have a clean house, decorated watered trees, fun Father Christmas bedding and are cosy.
We are both suffering with the post Covid cough, plus I'm doing physio for my arm which I broke a couple of months ago, now out of sling. No lists! but my older son messaged me in the week to say he would be over on Saturday to help us prepare the house, and true to his word he appeared lunch time, hoovered everywhere, cleaned all the bathrooms, put all the Christmas bedding on in the guest rooms and was generally a great help all from the boy who would never tidy up his bedroom He's back again today with our grandchildren till Boxing Day and tells me he's on a roll he's going to tidy up the garden this afternoon, leaves and bits of branches that overhang the garden that are littering the lawn, not necessary, we won't be entertaining out there, but if that's what he wants to do I'll let him get on with it
Right now preparing to be down at our local Waitrose by 10 am when the doors open so we can be at the tills by 10.30 with our last few bits and pieces.
Just the dining room to prepare today, iron all the Christmas table linen and hopefully that's it, everything else is done!
I’m nearly done with the lists now. I somehow ended up with another small shopping list yesterday for forgotten odds and sods, but I’ve finally got all I need to feed our small army, with plenty of leftovers. I’m ahead this year - all the sauces and stuffings, the nut roast, the teatime sausage rolls, veggie rolls and cake are done and in the freezer, and the china, glassware and cutlery is all sorted, so the Christmas Eve list is short. Cook the gammon, prep the potatoes, veg and starter, and sort out games for the grandsons. Two of them were over on Friday, so we tried a couple out on them (opening parcels wearing the Christmas oven gloves went down well). Then there’ll be one final list of timings for the food tomorrow.
I don’t need a list for Boxing Day. If I had one it’d be lie on sofa, switch on TV, eat leftovers fry-up as cooked by DH, open fizz and box of marzipan. And relax.
Well, cook the gammon, prep the potatoes, veg and starter, and sort out games for the grandsons has been going on since 10am and is still not finished, even with lots of DH input. I really should have learnt by now that prepping veg from the allotment - as ever, accompanied by a generous dollop of mud and the odd creepy-crawly - is not a 10 minute job!
I'm home from the Carol Service and earlier version of Midnight Mass. Making a wee list of things to remember for packing the car in the morning. We're driving to spend the day with AC and DGC.
Wishing everyone on the Christmas List thread the best Christmas possible. 🎅 🎄
Too darned late to worry now! Merry Christmas to the prepared, the unprepared, and the " frankly my dear I don't give a damn".
Merry Christmas, everyone!
