Morning Mick and All from a damp, cold, shortest day in South Bucks.

Off to our lovely new Art Deco cinema to see Wonka. My DS says I will love it. Also trying to finish our Christmas food shopping.

Sar53 we like Funchal very much, especially the botanical gardens and the back street art galleries/shops.

Afternoon tea at Reid’s Hotel is rather good 👍🏻

Good morning from the South Downs, where it is breezy rather than windy.

Today is the winter solstice - hoorah - welcome back to the sun🌞🌞, and of course the reason Christmas is celebrated at this time.
There is a huge parade in Brighton where hundreds of children’s groups make very creative paper lanterns in all sorts of themes. They walk down to the beach accompanied by pagon type drumming to a bonfire - the last time I went it was an enormous Viking boat - all their lanterns are burned and they watch a big firework display. It is excellent.

Today I am decorating my cake (like others) making sausage rolls (to freeze) , making a salmon pie for a very busy day tomorrow, and having my big Christmas shopping delivery.

Well, must get on - this time next week christmas will be over and we can all relax!

Peace and harmony one and all

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s very windy.
Happy birthday Roses
I had a lovely Christmas dinner wupith a friend yesterday.the restaurant was incredibly busy but not too noisy and the service was excellent.
Another dinner today, with two of the ladies who come to the lunch club. Before that a coffee and catch up with a fellow trustee.
Overnight I will have 2 lodgers! My neighbour has more family coming so a grandson and his wife are sleeping here. Her DH remains in hospital.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from wet and windy South Lanarkshire.

DH will take DGD home this morning. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed her visit, it’s so good to be around young people.

Our friends who moved south are travelling today to the north of Scotland for Christmas. They will break their journey at lunchtime when we will meet up for an hour or so. I’m looking forward to seeing them, I miss my friend.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning all from a wet and somewhat windy Glasgow, where it is slightly warmer than yesterday, at 10°C..

Happy birthday, Roses.
I must have missed that about your daughter, Kitty. I hope she is on the mend soon.

Yesterday, we had a surprise visit from SIL, on his way back from a hospital appointment. He still has lung problems, two years after having Covid.
After phoning to see if I needed anything, he brought some shopping. I had to laugh, when he brought two different makes of something I asked for, Just in case.
In the future, I am going to send him, instead of Mr MD, 😉

I have to go to the surgery today, the bonus is that Babydoll lives only ten minutes away, so we will pop in for a short visit. I really miss her, she is developing a lovely personality. Her daddy cried non stop ( he was always unwell), she just smiles all the time.
We were supposed to see her at the weekend, but I was too unwell.
My chest is slightly improved, but the antibiotics are making me so nauseous and I am running out of anti nausea meds again, However, the good news is that I may actually live to see Christmas! 😂

Those of you spending time with family, enjoy! Glad to see you have arrived safely, Ash.
Have a good day folks.

Beechnut, thank you for the lovely card, Beechnut.
I donated all my card making stock to Dollie's school last week, my fine motor skills are poor now.
I still haven't made any dent in my stash!

Happy birthday 🥳 🎂 Rosesandlilac!!

BlueSapphire Thu 21-Dec-23 08:26:24

Good morning everyone from a damp and mild Northampton, 11° out, and brightening up later, which will be fine, as I need to go into town to collect my new glasses. Received a text yesterday to say they were ready.

Have had younger DGD here overnight and just about to do her a bacon sandwich for breakfast. We enjoyed watching 'Miracle on 34th Street ' together last night; I always watch it at Christmas and end up in tears, it's a lovely film.

Sainsbury's delivery later this morning, then after lunch into town, and maybe home via Sainsbury's and M&S Food ; Sainsbury's have emailed to say they don't have the smoked salmon or bread I wanted.

Not.read the thread yet, so will do that when I have a few minutes later. Have a good day everyone.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 21-Dec-23 08:29:36

Good morning Mick and everyone from a wet and gusty Oxfordshire. The wind is howling down the chimney which the dog isn’t happy with. She has had a big op and has stitches all down her back so isn’t allowed out into the garden unless she is on a lead with her harness, she isn’t happy about that as she likes to run around and through the hedges and trees searching out small wildlife and rabbits, we aren’t happy either because we have to get dressed up in our coats and boots and take her out, usually she will sit in the garden for hours just waiting for something small to pop up that she can chase, she’s never caught anything.
Happy birthday Roseandlilac
Marydoll💐
Sorry I don’t mention you all by name, other lovely posters, but unless I write everything on a notepad I don’t remember what you’ve all been up to by the time I’ve read through all of your posts.
Have a good day and hopefully we can all stay dry, I think I’m right in saying that it’s the Winter Solstice today, so if anyone is at Stonehenge I hope you have a good time.
🎄

Good morning all and it’s windy here at the Suffolk coast.

We will shop today and then we have our neighbour coming in for a glass of Sherry and a mince pie.

This evening I have my book club meal at a local pub, which will be jolly.

Happy birthday Rose enjoy your day.💐.

Your holiday sound lovely Sar.

Keep safe today

Liberty Thu 21-Dec-23 08:35:59

Good morning from a windy but dry Suffolk. The rest of the household are still in bed and asleep I think. They arrived just before 11pm but it was nearly 12.30am before we all went to bed. Late nights/ early mornings are a thing of the past for me.

I’m writing this in the sitting room and don’t want to venture into the kitchen for a much needed cup of tea as there are 2 dogs sleeping there. Bristol’s gang have a border terrier who is just 1 year older than ours and they get on well. Once they are up the day will start for all. Apart from a dog walk not sure what else is on the agenda but it will involve lots of food! I hear stirrings upstairs so tea calls.

ginny Thu 21-Dec-23 08:37:29

Good morning from a breezy N.Bucks. Shortest day today which is cheering, I hate the long evenings.
Bits and bobs to do today . I must go out to gather some holly and ivy for a few Christmas flower arrangements. My to do list is finally getting shorter.
Happy Birthday RosesndLilac.
Kind wishes to all who are poorly or troubled and a pleasant day hoped for all.

Grandmabatty Thu 21-Dec-23 08:41:10

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and damp and windy. RosesandLilac a very happy birthday to you. GrandMattie enjoy having the girls. Grammaretto I hope your back eases up.
Yesterday was a very lazy day for me. I achieved very little. I didn't feel well with a sore head and throat and lay about. I did marzipan the Christmas cake and tidy the kitchen.
Today I still have a sore throat but I have presents to wrap and some local cards to deliver. And ice the cake. And hoover. Oh dear. Have a good day all

Urmstongran Thu 21-Dec-23 08:42:37

Good morning everyone from south Manchester. Blimey O’Reilly, Storm Pia was LOUD last night! Maybe the wind swirls round more two floors up?

No L’il Miss here this morning at the crack of dawn she’s home with daddy today. We are all meeting at tea time in our favourite Italian restaurant. Himself and I are going over for my stepfather. 91y ➡️ 6y. It makes me joyous as I look around the table. Blessings indeed.

Here’s Matt. Well he will be soon. I need to work out on this new iPad how to retrieve it. Back in a minute!
x

Urmstongran Thu 21-Dec-23 08:47:10

Sorted. I think I posted yesterday’s cartoon earlier. 🤭
Anyway here’s today’s which did make us chuckle!

EkwaNimitee Thu 21-Dec-23 08:50:04

Good morning Mick and everyone from a very windy but dry and brightish Carlisle. It was a very noisy night which is fairly unusual here, probably one reason I had a poor night’s sleep.
I’ll be quite busy today at this and that and have to go out shortly so I’ll just wish you all a successful day.
And I hope all of you unwell folk are improving, ready to enjoy the holiday.

monk08 Thu 21-Dec-23 08:55:14

Good morning all from a windy Black country it woke me at 4.30 but managed to get back to sleep.
DH trip to cinema yesterday didn't happen, school phoned Dgs2 had been sick so DS had to collect him and take him home so many bugs going round at the moment.
My cold hasn't appeared to be as bad as DH managed to get echinacea in me and its working DH still coughing but not as much.
Need to drop a card to our old neighbour with a present for our goddaughter, then a small shop.
Happy birthday rosesandlilac 🎉🎁💐🎂.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.

BlueSapphire Thu 21-Dec-23 09:04:49

Happy birthday 🎂 Roseandlilac!

Good morning from a humming house on the Boggy Brae. I slept well after my swim (my front crawl is slightly better than nonexistent now – yay!) or the buffetting wind might have kept me awake. I'm glad our house is not below the gigantic spruce tree that's down the hill from us – someone's old xmas tree that they didn't realise would grow so big?

More dabs of paint on my watercolour today. So far it is progressing well by my limited standards.

Good day wishes to all 😊

Taichinan Thu 21-Dec-23 09:13:00

Good morning all. I'm a little later today, so no time to read the 39 posts ahead of me - I shall pick them up as and when, as the day goes by.
The presents are all wrapped and making a lovely colourful display in the hall ready to be loaded into the -sleigh- car tomorrow afternoon. Seeing them all wrapped like that is my favourite part of Christmas - a demonstration of all the people I have to love in my life 💕. (And actually there are more because little Ollie's family's gifts were entrusted to Royal Mail's Santa last week).
This morning is long-overdue housework and then this afternoon I'm off to collect a -very expensive- gizmo for a trial run to see if it will help with my hearing in group situations. That would be so lovely if it proves effective for me! And what a great time of year to trial it 🤞
I do hope those night driving glasses are proving as effective for you as they are for me stilllearning.
Now I must 'get on and get going'. Enjoy your day everyone, and thoughts as always with those feeling not so good just now flowers

LauraNorderr Thu 21-Dec-23 09:27:46

Good morning Mick and all from a windy but dry West Cheshire.
Happy birthday RosesandLilac, enjoy your lovely cake.
Happy holiday Sar.
What a kind gesture Alygran, a good neighbour.
On our way back now to longer days 🎉

GrannySomerset Thu 21-Dec-23 09:35:45

A wild but dry night meant oversleeping this morning but as I have an easy day it doesn’t matter. Yesterday’s lunch was fun and much enjoyed, and having had a sociable time I don’t mind a day without anyone. Last few presents to wrap, sausage rolls to make and bedrooms to check that they are ready, but I must fix in my mind that Christmas Eve is Sunday and not Saturday as I had convinced myself so I have a day in hand.
