Tonight I dropped a large box of icing sugar. It was on the floor, the walls, the baby's high chair and my black (now white) trousers. I now don't have enough to finish off the cake. The air was blue!

DD lost her keys last night when she was helping in our friend’s restaurant, her keys to our house were on the same key ring!!

DH sourced new locks for both her’s and our doors, fitted them before lunch. The keys were found this evening, the air was (is) blue…

Years ago, when we lived in a shared house a Christmas meal was arranged. But we didn’t realise that we were supposed to be responsible for cooking the Turkey. I’ve no idea how we managed to get that Turkey cooked in time for the meal; I’m surprised everybody didn’t come down with food poisoning. Another year everyone at the dinner came down with a norovirus. I can remember mine kicking in just as I was about to eat a sprout. A couple of years ago my drain blocked on Christmas Eve. This year the dog’s just ate a tea bag. A caffeinated one ( she usually only manages to steal decaff ones). I’ve given her some activated charcoal….she hasn’t done it for ages. Why did I drop my guard tonight of all nights!

Well, the CH boiler packed up yesterday. Huge knocking noises and all the water has disappeared. One son coming to dinner here today so he will have a look. I'll call the boiler man after Christmas.

Your norovirus story has just reminded me of when I was on a works Christmas do, MayBee. Trigger warning here to anyone who may be eating!

I had a lovely plate of mussels for my starter and knew immediately that I was going to be violently sick. I ran to the ladies with my hand over my mouth and just pushed past the queue to dive in there, in the nick of time. I felt better immediately and came out apologising profusely to all the waiting women. As I walked downstairs back to our table I noticed a large party all watching me and enthusiastically miming someone being sick. It was our local Deaf Association on their night out.

Daughter messaged at 8am, very small chest freezer lid had been left open, everything defrosted, quick run to supermarket as one item list was pigs in blankets.
The Carnation is for my ‘last minute’ son, he’s making banoffee pie tomorrow.

Another lousy xmas I remember was a few years back when my nephew had had a stroke in the July and was still not really well by December. He used to forget things and sort of drift.

I went to stay from xmas eve to boxing day and his flat was freezing cold compared with my house. His partner did all the cooking and nephew (as well as I) spent a lot of time in bed because it was the only warm place. Xmas dinner was not very nice. The only thing we enjoyed was the trifle afterwards.

I had brought a bottle of Baileys classic and the partner and I drank most of it while nephew was in bed. We got pretty drunk and both fell asleep.

The taxi home on boxing day cost me twice the normal fare.

We still joke about it nowadays.

I just realised last night that we'd just eaten what was actually planned for today (Christmas Eve).

1. Shops are shut here in Germany until Wednesday morning
2. Christmas Eve is a big deal in Germany (although we don't celebrate it)
3. DS3 is joining us for dinner.

I think I might be able to rustle up some fish and chips with fish and peas from the freezer, but I could have done without the extra work.

As a vegetarian and therefore "difficult" 🤣 I made myself a lovely dish but when an unannounced visitor came on Christmas eve I had to eat it with him.

I had made chestnut stuffing and took that to DD who was hosting that year
Sprouts, parsnips and stuffing sans gravy was a disappointing meal which I felt obliged to eat. #ungratefulgran

Another year, we were hosting everyone. Guests had arrived, champagne started but spuds weren't cooked.
DC reminded me I had a key to my neighbours flat who was away so, reluctantly I went in and cooked the potatoes and sausages etc.
The odd thing was he'd left his kitten.....

Next thing, he came burst in to see his kitchen filled with me and my cooking. Seems I should have phoned and asked. He fed the kitten and left again but it was the end of a friendship.

Christmas Dinner was cooked though!

Thanks Maggiemaybe and *Aveline". My son is arriving within the next hour and will look at it. Meanwhile, thank goodness the weather is mild. It's funny though to have to boil kettles for dishes etc. Hey ho, that's life..

Henetha could it be that your boiler has no pressure and needs filled up with water. It happened to us, loud banging noises. Once filled up to the right pressure, it worked fine.

Also if you bleed radiators, you need to top it up or on the other hand, it could mean you have a leak somewhere.

I am the boiler technician in our house, DH is hopeless.

We had a turkey that was off one year it must be more common than youbthonk . The butcher was absolutely mortified when we went back as he was shutting and gave.us another I think it was his own ! My husband used to like to get a last minute reduced turkey so he went to bolton market late on Xmas eve every year - but one year they hadn't any left so he has to bomb over to Chorley and get a huge one ! !
