Pronunciations

PS another work colleague kept calling the place and the bank Santander Santa Narder. And didn't like my saying it correctly at all!!

I was at a small gathering recently and a lady completely mispronounced the name of a local area. I was amused to note that two others, while clearly noticing the mispronunciation, continued to pronounce it in the wrong way. I thought it was kind of them not to embarrass her in public.

I correct somebody I know who talks about Covoid. It drives me nuts. Apparently I am the only person she knows who does.

Hi Crazy. It’s pro as you’d say it in proper and then shooto.And it’s delicious, too.

Living in a Welsh speaking part of wales I am used to having my pronunciation corrected then usually try it out
We have holiday cottages and I now find myself correcting visitors and they laugh and appreciate it
Never had anyone offended
Guess the key is how you do it

I would feel bad if I did correct someone. Best to just let it go and have a giggle about it.

There's usually a reason though isn't there?
Hearing loss, dyslexia, confusion with dialect or maybe growing up in a household without a lot of stimulating conversation. It must make you feel awful to be 'corrected' if you know struggle for some reason.

When I first moved to Wales I was a little taken aback Actually I appreciate being helped to pronounce words correctly

I do wish people would pronounce “harassment” the British way rather the American way.

I would never embarrass someone by correcting their pronunciation.
I cannot pronounce a former R.A medication I was on called Toxcilizamub ( despite being a linguist 😚), so I just call it Tokkie, as all my clinicians do. .

I have a friend, who often invites us for ham and cheese craconts, (croissants) for lunch. We are just grateful at being asked.

I try not to make it obvious that I am correcting someone's pronuniciation. I usually include the mispronounced word in my response, using the correct pronunciation. I think I heard once that that was the polite way to correct someone.

I don’t think I ve ever corrected anyone, that to me seems pretty rude, however I don’t think anyone’s corrected me either
