Good Morning Sunday New Years Eve 31st December 2023

Good morning from Bristol. It’s damp and mild.
I had a very busy day, yesterday, withDD and Iris coming to lunch. We then left Iris to play on the computer, while we measured and decided what furniture to but, what size, etc.
Then we went into town join SiL and GD1 and go to the cinema. “ Wonka” is very sweet, if somewhat saccharine (forgive the pun). I had a great time, trying to identify where I had seen the actors in the very many cameos. It was curious that the cast was almost entirely British, but the protagonists were Americans!
After the film, we went to a Lebanese restaurant for dinner, delicious mezzes although, to start with, the girls threw tantrums about eating there - they wanted pizza!
Today, church, then empty.
I’m finding the closure of regular events discombobulating asi I’m confused as to which day is which…

Good morning from dark and damp South Lanarkshire.

We were later than expected coming back from childminding yesterday so I’m behind in my preparations for our family meal tomorrow. I’ll have to get cracking to get organised before I go to church. We will be leaving straight afterwards as we’re heading into town to go to the ballet. Scottish Ballet performance of Cinders, I’m looking forward to it immensely.

This evening we will see in the New Year at home, I’ll probably go to bed shortly afterwards as we have a full house tomorrow.

Good morning from N Bucks where I only know what the weather is like because Rosie asked to go out, took one look at the rain and shot back in.
Is it ever going to stop raining?
I suppose it’s down to climate change. ( ie rain instead of snow) but it reminds me of how in my childhood in Scotland while we rarely had a white Christmas, it would often start to snow between Christmas and New Year and continue well into January. Commiserations to Northern Grans who may be experiencing just that.
Plans for today? None really. Don’t need more than a bottle of milk so I may get that from the village shop or might pop to Waitrose and indulge in a coffee, cake and peruse their Sunday papers.
As years go, 2023 has not been a great one for the world or for many on here so I just want to express my sincere good wishes to you all for the year to come. 🥃

Rain all day in s somerset, with dark sky until late afternoon and then there is the added wind, not nice

Nine days until my cowl is replaced and I put some protection on the fire grate, after taking the throat plate off. I heard rain drips coming from the flue, the drips are now collecting in a bowl on a small tray, on silver foil

I did a fair bit of cooking yesterday and now have some easy food ready in the fridge and freezer. I also did some tricky sewing on my bag with just the lining today and strap and grommets tomorrow. The bag is difficult to make and manoevre under the sewing machine but the challenge is good and the bag is looking very nice

I too will be glad to get back to normal activities

Good morning from the South Downs. We had gales thunder and torrential rain during the night, and it is still wet and windy. Will get blown around on our walk no doubt and the robins who usually serenade me on my walk will be silent. I’ll take some mealy worms for them i think, also some nuts for the squirrels.

Well, the last day of a year of no particular success on human part with war, climate change and everything related to it. Let us hope that 2024 brings better results.

I fervently hope for peace and harmony.

Morning all from a still dark West Oxfordshire. It is dry now but torrential rain woke me at 4 am,
Church this morning at the smallest church in the Benefice. It is only a 5 minute drive away and is a beautiful Georgian building on on the edge of a country estate. Lunch will be a snack because I am cooking leg of lamb this evening. Younger son is still here. He has decided not to go to any NYE festivities but will return to London, probably on Tuesday.
OH would like plum crumble for pudding. Not one of my favourite fruits but we have a stash in the freezer together with some crumble mix I made a while ago. I usually make raspberry crumble, so I suppose he should have his own way sometimes!

Good morning from a cloudy but dry Crewe, where we arrived safely yesterday after a reasonably good journey for which we shared the driving.

We were warmly welcomed by my DD2 and family and shared in the excitement of watching a local darts player, Littler, trounce the world champion in a quarter final (?) of the World Championship! Later we enjoyed a meal in a local hostelry.

I’m glad you liked spotting the actors in Wonka, grandMattie and a Lebanese meal sounds interesting.
Going to the ballet sounds an ideal way to spend NYEve, baubles. In contrast, we’re seeing our DGD, for whom ballet is her favourite dance form, on stage in the panto, Snow White, a semi-professional performance in Hanley.

This is my second attempt at posting after the website crashed as I finished my original one. 🙄 Lesson learned and I’ve typed it in Notes!

Morning all, today we will take down the Christmas decorations. They are usually left up until 12th night, but we are going away so they need to come down early.

Good morning from Glasgow. It’s still dark outside and my guess is we will see rain again at some point. Yesterday’s snowfall was soon washed away by this never ending rain.

We had a pleasant afternoon yesterday dog sitting the adorable Millie, yellow lab who is now 9mths and huge. DD1 was shopping at our local Waitrose and collecting her steak pie order from our local butcher. When she asked if we would mind having Millie for a while we were more than happy to do so. It was lovely to hear a dog padding around the house again wandering between DH’s now downstairs bedroom and the kitchen before settling down in her favourite spot at ours.

Beds changing and vacuuming are the only tasks for today followed by a do as I please afternoon.

Good morning from Cornwall where strong winds and rain are forecast. Dug out my childhood doll's house yesterday from my work room where I'd been using it as a cupboard. I want to renovate it as an art project; a lovely challenge as it needs a new roof and stairs, upper floor and all the furniture, which I'll construct.

Today I'll pack away my Christmas decorations and restore some order to my workroom which in my haste to find the doll's house I have left in rather a jumble.

Where did that year go? It flew by for me and already there's another one around the corner!!

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Yesterday's snow hasn't settled so it's just wet outside.
I haven't decided what I'll do today. I have enough supplies for a siege and my local newsagents will probably be open throughout.
Tonight I'll light the fire, watch tv and knit but not stay up for the Bells.
I quite enjoy being antisocial 😄

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire but dry at the moment. I have stopped trying to second guess the weather and I think the forecasters have too - they are making it up as they go along! On Friday I emptied eighteen gallons of water out of my butt, and yesterday, it was full again. DD and the menfolk are expected later for a roast dinner. I will make a steamed sponge pudding for “afters”; we haven’t had one for ages.
I won’t stay up to see in the New Year, but wish the very best for 2024 to you all.

Yesterday I pootled and faffed and got little done 🤷🏼‍♀️, not that it mattered.
Today a dog walk, I will do roast chicken for dinner and finish sorting my art materials in preparation for starting an online course tomorrow with coloured pencils. I haven’t used them since childhood!

Good morning from a damp & dank Sefton. My iPad has been very uncooperative of late but seems to be behaving itself this morning. Like me it is getting old.
Christmas Day lunch went fairly well, I only forgot the stuffing, cranberry sauce & roast potatoes - rescued by OH who threw them in the (basic "I only do chips") air fryer whilst we had our starter. Returned from a trip to the sales with an all singing all dancing air fryer & cosy jogging bottoms & hoodie. And at some point in the week we had a family lunch in town followed by a very raucous but thoroughly enjoyable rock panto which had a very tenuous link to Cinderella. It seems to have been a week of Sundays. As grandMattie so rightly said it's very discombobulating. I will be glad to get back to my regular routine & knowing what day it is. A quiet day ahead until the fireworks start. Luckily our very chilled greyhound will snooze through it all. I will go to bed with my book.

Good morning all from a chilly Glasgow.

I had a nightmare drive in the snow yesterday. I was wandering round Sainsbury's looking for bargains, when I checked my phone. To my surprise, my children had sent photos of the snow at their homes. It was dry when I first went out!
There was even one of Dollie in pyjamas and wellies, watching the bus stuck on the hill.
Getting home was scary, with no gritters out.
Our street was almost impossible to navigate, with my car at one point, facing sideways.😱
Not good for my cardiac health!!

We are having a family lunch today at DD's. Her village was snowed in yesterday and she was upset, thinking lunch would have to be cancelled.
DIL is still very unwell, we are quite concerned. At Mass last night, Dollie spent the whole time cuddling in and holding my hand, worrying about mummy. DS is being very circumspect, so we are keeping our in counsel, as he can be quite nippy. We will just be there for them.

I wish you all a pleasant day, whatever your plans.
In the past, we have always stayed up until midnight and celebrated with our neighbours/ friends, but DH and I have decided not too this rubbish year. There has been so much sadness and stress.

Luckily our very chilled greyhound will snooze through it all. I will go to bed with my book

Lucky you Gala 😀 not that I am complaining any more but my four previous greyhounds were quivering wrecks at the sound of fireworks, thunder or indeed the clay pigeon shooting outside the village when the wind was in that direction. I used to hate “ Bonfire fortnight” followed by Eid, Divali and then New Year because they were so terrified - panting and hyperventilating.
Rosie, fortunately is like your hound and long may they both stay that way. Happy New Year!
