Good Morning Tuesday 2nd January 2024

Good morning all! Phew , just made it,

A busy morning which started at 7am having to go out for milk. I bought 3 two pinters two days ago and they were all off. Still well in date. Lovely corner shop owner gave me my money back with sincere apologies and gave me some more for my much needed cuppa.

Then up to the Charity shop with 6 bags full of toys, books and photo frames (I’ve got far too many). Requested a repeat prescription from the chemist, and went round to the hairdressers to make an appointment (they were closed). Back home for a bowl of porridge and then out into the rain to walk little pooch, who was crossing her legs. So much water in the roads, we got splashed with cars going down pot holes filled to the brim.

Back home and Dh made me a coffee 😉.

This afternoon I have Bridge and will be pleased to see our friendly group.

Bellasnanna the boys look super. I have a pic just like that one of our twin gs’s taken about 16 yrs ago, standing in front of the tv. The time will fly by. Enjoy them. ❤️.

Morning from a dull and wet Eden. Maybe a day for taking decorations down.
Yesterday was sunny and we had a walk by the river and then a chat on Facetime with the family. The grandchildren were enacting the play they had written. DD who has lived in the Far East had made Chinese New Year food which sounded delicious.
Onwards into the New Year and best wishes to all.

I was born in March 1947, I’ve never been warm since 😀.
Our dgd had a sleepover on Saturday. As she goes to school near us she has friends who live close by and a different set of friends near her home, so she is happy to stay here and we love having her.

DH’s bedroom needs a good clean out, difficult to do without disturbing him and hopefully I can persuade him to spend some time in another bedroom to let me get it done. I am looking forward to flinging some windows open to let fresh air flow through the house again, not happening with this constant rain. Hurry up spring.

Good morning Mick and all from a dull northwest coast. Had a nice refreshing walk in the sand dunes yesterday before the rain started up again. Quite a few people out, more than usual and I didn’t envy anyone with a bad head after celebrating. One small sherry for me😇

Watched Goodnight Mr.Tom for the first time in the evening and found it very moving. Never keen on the late John Thaw, but he was perfect in that part.

Today, arranging check up optician appointment etc and the first music club meeting of 2024 🎼

Good morning from a dull and damp central Scotland. We had a quiet New Year and this suited us fine as I find it difficult. We had a home made “steak” pie but I made it with venison from the local butcher with chipolatas and red currant jelly in the gravy. Leftovers for dinner tonight. My Dsis and Dbil are coming for lunch and to exchange presents tomorrow, it was meant to be last Wednesday but the poor weather prevented them traveling so I am looking forward to that. Washing going round in machine tradition dictates it shouldn’t be done on New Years day and a pile of ironing waiting. Oh the joys of being back to normal. Hope everyone can find something to smile about today.

I watched that programme about the winter of 1947 too Granny Somerset and am amazed that I only have one memory of it! I was just six and we lived in a little hamlet (9 houses) one mile from the nearest village. My memory is of 'helping' my Dad and the other men (with my little beach spade!) dig through the huge drift that had formed across the road. As we broke through to the other side we met the snow plough coming the other way! It's such a vivid memory and yet I remember nothing else of that time - perhaps we weren't hit as badly as elsewhere.
I would say go for those driving glasses Grandmabatty, but go for the Duco ones at £25, which are polarised and not the cheaper versions available which I suspect might not be. They've made a huge difference for me.

Still raining here, very wet and squashy underfoot, but dog is back home so I’ll take the decorations down today, followed by some housework, ironing and some paperwork to sort.
Left overs for dinner so theres no excuse not to get on with it.

Good morning Mick, Annie and all. I have actually made it today before lunch time. Wonders will never cease.
Yesterday DS2 visited with his little family, and I managed to feed us all with no disasters.
DH is off out soon, but I shall stay in and potter in peace.

Good morning fro a wet Severnside.
I took the decorations down yesterday. I dropped the decoration box on my fingers, ouch, as I manoeuvred it up onto the cupboard in the garage so once I start on a tidy up in there I will find a home lower down for that box.

I had a lovely catch up with my overseas family who helped with a few things I wanted to do.

I should go and do some shopping today.

New Year Day involved several phone calls, including one from a Dutch friend. Met on holiday thirty-five years ago and had several visits to them and them to us; aged 87 she is still having English conversation lessons and likes to practise! Spent some time helping a friend eat up leftovers and came home to watch the programme about the winter of 1947, some parts of which I remember well. I started school in that January and wore so many layers I couldn’t bend -Chiprufe wool vest, liberty bodice, Vyella shirt, serge tunic and thick hand knitted cardigan. Horrific! In west London I don’t think we had as much snow as other part of the country but I do remember the milk freezing in then bottles and being confined to indoors for most of the time. People still had war time coping skills, but I wonder how on earth we would manage today. Hope we don’t need to find out.

Off into town on the train later this morning for a low key, but hopefully tasty & delicious, anniversary lunch. 53 years today - wasn't raining then but foggy. This will be a new restaurant for us.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Damp but not raining or snowing. I may bus into Edinburgh though I feel rather lazy. There are a few things I would like to take for my trip to NZ later this month.

Morning from a very wet S Hants, again, it rained all of yesterday evening too. Last night we were out for my son’s birthday today, the four of us ate in a microbrewery, you can see through a glass door to the workings, different.
Today is washing, pharmacy and a quick M&S trip.

Good morning from a very dull, grey and rainy Black Country, again!

Spent yesterday morning taking all the decorations down, and boxing them up. Then dust and hoover. House is back to normal!

This morning my friend is popping round with a card and present for Mums birthday, as she is 94 tomorrow! Very kind of her. Then I have an Audiology appointment this afternoon, as one of my moulds has cracked. Luckily it is just a short 10 min bus ride away.

Pantglas my car insurance is up 6th Feb. Will fill in Money Saving Experts form soon to get some prices. Can only do it 30 days before though.

Good morning Mick, morning all, it’s another drizzly start to the day.

Yesterday’s visit from the family was smashing. The cousins enjoyed each other’s company and the eldest was a great help to me. Slightly chaotic as we were thirteen for dinner but good fun.

I have no plans for today, may take down some of the decorations.

Good morning all from the East Yorkshire countryside. It’s a rather grey skied one and damp on the ground after overnight rain.

Yesterday we all went for brunch and then the family left for home. Gosh it was so quiet when they’d gone! DH and I revived ourselves with tea. As it was such a gloriously sunny day we
then went for a walk around the park looking at how other lodges had decorated them for Christmas. I’m glad to have had a better nights sleep last night after a disturbed one the night before.

Today I need to dismantle my tree here and we will drag it onto the decking. I’m pleased with how little of the needles have dropped. At a later date we will plant it here as we have a decent piece of land around us. Then a coffee at the coffee shop before we stop off en route home in Beverley to browse the sales.

Good morning Mick and all from cloudy Lancashire, currently 7°C.

Yesterday conditions were calm and mild and I had a pleasant walk down to the river. It rained heavily last night and more is forecast for today. MrB is on standby, awaiting a call to collect a family member from hospital so can’t go out today. I will walk across to the marina later, weather permitting.

Hope we all find something to be thankful for today 🌻

Good morning Mick and everyone from Carlisle where it has rained overnight but currently has a blue sky with a shiny half moon looking down.
Back to mundane business today after a day or two of idling. I find I'm having to tell myself which day of the week it is when I wake up...not that it really matters to me I suppose!
So bed stripping and on with the laundry next and a pile of ironing has accumulated.
karmalady has made me feel a tad guilty by mentioning freezers, mine is well stuffed but badly needs defrosting, a task I hate. I do have another in the garage but it's small and is also fairly well populated so probably won't hold all the contents of the kitchen one while it defrosts.. Nothing will happen today though.
