Good Morning Tuesday 2nd January 2024

Good morning from a mild Bristol. It rained a lot last night, but seems to be dry now.
Had a very pleasant afternoon. I put an invitation on the complex’ WhatsApp and a note through the door of those not on, to join me for a cuppa and cake in the afternoon. Three people came and we had a jolly good chat. Like me, they often go a day or so without talking to anyone.
Today, DD is taking me to IKEA to choose storage furniture for the hall and living room. Then after lunch at hers, we will go to Mrs. Potts for pudding. This is a chocolate shop that has a cafe selling all things chocolate! Should be delicious.

Belated NY greetings to all as I missed posting yesterday following a late start to the day. Lovely to see some posts from contributors not seen for a while like Bellasnana and Grandmafrench. Many thanks to Mick for your conscientiousness in opening the GM thread each morning.

We’ve had a lovely few family days here with the highlight being watching DGD in her first professional pantomime on Saturday. She revelled in her dancing and of course we all glowed with pride! We were joined by my DS and DGS3 which was great.

Good morning from Cornwall where it's very windy and raining heavily. Yesterday I bought a Cornwall Ranger rail ticket and spent all day jumping on and off whichever train was next to leave from whichever station I ended up at. Down to Penzance, up to Plymouth then under the Tamar Bridge to Gunnislake with views of Dartmoor (no apologies for the very poor photo here but the bridge is so awe-inspiring from below and suddenly appears out of the trees). The final leg back home was in a taxi as the line was flooded. Must claim back the fare today.

I'll either go to Trebah Gardens or the cinema today depending on how slippery it is underfoot for my crutches.

A quiet morning to be spent filing, sorting 🚘 insurance (horrendous increased quote on last year for reasons known only to God) then lunch with DD before watching One Life in the cinema.

Good morning from Lancashire, which is also starting off dry, but the forecast is more rain.
Hopefully I'll be off to the shops this morning. I need a new air purifier. I can't get a new filter for the one I have so have no choice but to buy a new one.
I suspect that,as they have become more popular, the shops are deliberately selling the more expensive ones and phasing out the spares for the cheaper.

Good morning from s somerset and the weather today is a mix of sky with yet more rain, and wind no wonder somerset is such a green county where willow thrives

A back- to- normal today and I have to do a serious sort in my freezer, I have just discovered organic frozen veg and berries, on recommendation and I have ordered a lot, to get the free postage. I will find freezer space but I have to take out one big drawer at a time and do a lot of re-positioning, so that I can access my own home made meals more easily. I am quite looking forward to that, it is like a stock-take

I made another bag yesterday, small and very nice to make, with magnetic clasp and interior pockets, from the dry oilskin scraps. The first one is called factotum and this one is a francli pocket bag. I am liking this bag-making and next will be a tote. Some people wanted to know more about the bags so here is a link to see what they are like, apart from colour, mine are identical to the pictures.

Good morning! I’m so glad I live on a hill, the volume of rain we've had has been ridiculous! I don’t think it stopped yesterday and it’s still raining!
Yesterday I got the house straight so all’s tidy at the moment, I struggle to relax when there’s muddle and mess.

We had lots of rain over night and we have extensive road flooding.

I have washing to do and get dry so I can iron tomorrow. I also have to nip to the village Coop.

My friend has had lots of tests and scans and has been diagnosed with a chest infection and nothing more sinister.

Morning all from a dark West Oxfordshire - well it is only 7 am!
Younger son is going back to London today. I’ll drive him to the railway station in Oxford and then hopefully do a bit of sales shopping! It is my sister’s birthday in a couple of weeks so I may spot something for her.
Our tree and decorations will come down on the 5th (12th night) and then I can get on with a bit of cleaning.
I have a WI committee tomorrow so maybe some admin today.

Good morning from Malta where we are expecting a high of 18°C.

Thank you so much for all the lovely words of welcome yesterday. You have inspired me to make more of an effort to join in on Mick’s thread.

I had planned a lazy day yesterday but was summoned to DD3’s to look after the boys as she was very unwell. Her husband hadn’t had much sleep either so I was able to watch the boys whilst mum and dad had some rest.

It was a beautiful day so I walked there and back, it’s only a 20 minute walk.

Gingster, thank you for asking about the twins. They are now 20 months old and doing very well! They are polar opposites character-wise but both absolutely adorable! I’m only allowed to add a photo of their back views unfortunately.😄

I’m about to get up and ready myself for watching Rafa play his first singles match this year. NanKate I know you will be watching too! I shall be on tenterhooks.😰

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire. GS is coming today to help me to pack Christmas away. His dad will drop him off early on his way to work, and I think he plans to stay overnight. We will start the day with a cooked breakfast and I expect I shall be stoking his boilers steadily thereafter! I’d better get moving. Have the best day you can folks.

I have a hospital appointment this morning.Flooded roads are going to mean a fifteen minute drive will probably take forty minutes with the diversions in place.

This afternoon I will be writing part of the eulogy for MIL.DH has done a montage of photos which will be played at the funeral.

It's very dark and looks wet outside, I suspect more rain is imminent, I am longing for a dry cold bright spell. Very limited with options for walking dog at the moment, unless I get in the car.
Back to work this morning, altho today I'm working at home, problems logging on though and laptop is protesting at the early start!

Morning Mick, morning All. No surprises weather-wise. It’s raining and our soggy corner of Somerset has overtopping rivers and flooded roads.

Most of the Christmas decorations packed and stored yesterday, the outside lights are still drying off as are the fabric bits and pieces after their encounter with the washing machine. We’ll clean today once the grocery delivery has arrived.

Mr C is very tired and slept away the afternoon while I finished putting things to rights. I’m getting concerned at his level of tiredness and hope next Mondays valve clinic appointment goes ahead. Of course it could simply be he’s never learned to pace himself.

Spent a while on the phone yesterday supporting a friend. Her husband was whisked from his care home by emergency ambulance early morning. He was cared for in the ambulance queue for 13.5 hours before he made it inside. She was so worried. She’s recovering from surgery herself, waiting for delayed biopsy outcomes, life is hard for them at the moment.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s just getting light. As I waited for the kettle to boil I watched the 7:20am Northern line train to Manchester Oxford Road pull into station across the road. Because it was dark out and the carriages were lit up I could see all the commuters - the train seemed quite full - and about a dozen alighted here. Whilst observing all this 3 buses went by. A busy start here in Urmston town centre.

No Matt. He must be on his Christmas holidays.

Good morning from a mild, rainy Colchester. 13° with the wind and rain increasing later.
Back to normality with a volunteering shift in the charity shop. I've a bag of donations from our Christmas clear out. I expect we'll be rearranging the shop and packing away Christmas.

Good morning everyone from a damp Northampton; looking as though it will be another day in for me, as heavy rain is expected later, so I shall not get out with my walking group.

Watched catch up tv and recordings yesterday, including Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker ballet which I recorded over a year ago, and was quite taken with - a very different take on the traditional story, but absolutely delightful. I have not deleted that recording!

Still not managed to make a start on Demon Copperhead - DD is also reading it and I expect she is halfway through it by now, going by the rate she reads at, so I have some catching up to do!

Must clean the bathrooms today, and get some washing done. Had a small roast chicken yesterday, so will make a large stew in the pressure cooker with the leftovers, which will do me a couple of days.

May Tuesday be kind to us all.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 4° and wet. It was very wet last night. Yesterday I was at my aunt and uncle's house for New Year's dinner and I was treated royally. I was home by half five because I'm not keen on driving at night. Taichinan I'm thinking of your special specs! Then the boys video called me to say Happy New Year. So a family orientated day.
Today is another such. DD and Sil are bringing the boys round about lunchtime. She goes back to work tomorrow so they are having a child free lunch. They'll pick up dgs2 later but dgs1 is staying for a sleepover. He's very excited and so is his grandma! He wanted to stay last week but it wasn't possible and he was so dejected. I've ordered jammies and a dressing gown for him and he can stay when he likes. I know Brook often has her grandchildren to stay over and I'd like that too. I made a slow cooker pot of lentil soup, my favourite, so that will do for lunch. Bellasnana the boys look lovely. I bet they're a handful! Have a good day all

Good morning from a very wet and windy South Downs. Still quite dark, so I’m still in bed about to have a cup of tea.

Yesterday we had a meal at my sisters and it was good to see her as she has had covid during the Christmas period, but seems to have got away with a relatively mild dose.

Today we will take down the decorations. We usually leave it to twelve night, but it is forecast a dreadful day but sunny and dry later in the week - so hope to make the most of better weather and take a flask and go for a stroll.

mizuma my maternal step-grandfather was born and brought up more or less near where that photo was taken - Saltash - before that bridge was built of course - Just Brunel’s bridge was there.

Good morning from a damp NE after heavy overnight rain.
Yesterday DD, SIL and I watched the concert from Vienna and also made a decision on our spring holiday. We booked a house in the Peak District, somewhere I haven't visited since we used to go hiking.
DS and family came late afternoon after a brisk walk at the coast, they were chilled and ready for warming mugs of tea.
We had duck confit for dinner with roast parsnips and carrots, swede, sprouts, courgette Provencal and pomme puree. Dessert was peach pavlova. Those that wanted wine had a very decent Sancerre.
GD1 brought her art portfolio so we could see what she has been doing at college, very impressive. GD2 played the piano for us.
Today is a rest day for me after some very busy days, will catch up with TV.

Back to normal with coffee at a local garden centre for a friend and me. At home later, there’s a bit of admin and bills to pay.
I’ll start another bag of stuff to drop off at a charity shop/bin.

Lovely to see you both posting again Bellasnonna and pantglas - the twins are growing and the chamber pot is on the go.
It's all back to normal for you south of the border, but up here the holiday continues and we don't restart tai chi until next week. I shall do the paperwork today and get that out of the way. I so enjoyed yesterday, just taking in the view and watching the birds at the birdtable in the beautiful sunshine. Days like that are so precious aren't they.
Safe journey back to Torbay Ash. I'm glad you enjoyed your DGD's show with so much pride.
