Just watched a Queen concert from 1986 and note how good looking Brian May is even now. Always thought Sean Connery has aged well too.
Michael Douglas was good looking when younger but looks a bit scary now. His dad Kirk was handsome when younger but really went weird looking when he was old.
Who do you think has aged well?

The Kemps have done well, and I agree that Bill Nighy, Terence Stamp and Jeremy Irons still look good, also Judi Dench who is so natural. I don’t think Helen Mirren looks good now - she seems to try too hard and her scragged back white hair and very heavy makeup recently made her look positively witchy. Joanna Lumley still looks great without makeup.

MayBee70 I understand that the best way to do counter this is to sing a lot or read out loud.

Our lungs and vocal cords need exercise as much as any other part of us, so regular practice is needed, either singalong to music at home or join a choir. there are lots of leisure choirs now who do not require auditions to join. Or read a chapter of a book out loud each day, together with dramatic effcts.

I talk all the time. In fact I told my partner I wasn’t going to talk for a while because if I don’t answer him( he talks more than I do) he asks me if I’ve upset him. Treating it as that most glamorous of afflictions, the post nasal drip, at the moment and it is improving! I noticed that even Nigella is sounding a bit croaky at the moment too. Joanna Lumley isn’t, though (grrr)…( I can only sing when the dog’s at my partners house as I have to play music very loud to drown my voice out and the dog doesn’t like loud music)

I've always thought that Kristen Scott Thomas is stunningly attractive likewise Helen Mirren and Monica Bellucci.
Brad Pitt has aged remarkably well... likewise Rick Astley!

Rick Astley still looks the same as ever, but he is only 57!

Some people look better as they age.

Sigourney Weaver, Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford.

I'd go for Helen Mirren. Judy Dench and Bill Nighy (though that's mainly his voice)

Bruce Springsteen - and I’ll no doubt be panned for this, but Gary Lineker looks very good for 63.

BigBertha1 Wed 03-Jan-24 19:54:54

Alan Alda - always gorgeous

Me, obviously grin

Gary Lineker? You must be joking!

Casdon Wed 03-Jan-24 21:22:50

No. He definitely doesn’t look his age. I like a man who looks after himself, and isn’t scared of saying what he really thinks.

MayBee70 Wed 03-Jan-24 22:06:06

And he’s a really nice bloke, too.

We can't help making instant
judgements can we? We are conditioned from early in life to be able to gauge someone's age.

Once we hosted a nun who had just been released from a closed order to go out into the world to spread the good word.

Her complexion was flawless. She had no wrinkles. I assumed she must be 60 but she assured us she was 85.
I put it down to a life with no worries or responsibility but maybe it was good genes 😉

MayBee70 Wed 03-Jan-24 22:50:19

If she hadn’t been exposed to sunlight her skin would have been wrinkle free. I met Miriam Stoppard once: she has used a Sun block all of her life and her skin was like porcelain.

Debbi58 Wed 03-Jan-24 23:03:39

Kevin Costner does it for me 😉

A nun's life is not without worries or responsibilities. Many orders run schools and hospitals and even the contemplative eorders have to find a way of earning money and some live in abject poverty.

Grammaretto Thu 04-Jan-24 08:37:13

I thought that too M0nica but this sister had lived in a convent in Liverpool all her adult life. It was a silent order. There were, at that time 1980s, only 7 of them . They had a cottage industry making Christmas cards and she made it sound a very gentle life away from the outside world.

M0nica Thu 04-Jan-24 14:44:52

Seven people living in a closed environement requires heroic quantities of patience forgiveness for them not t spend their lives at each other's throats, and I suspect that making Chrisymas cards would provide a very meagre living, they were probably also dependent on donations from supporters.

The nuns in these closed convent were both very private and proud of their capacity to manage and suffer. A number of convents have been closed down by bishops after finding the nuns there were living without adequate heat or food, they saw it as part of their life of sacrifice but others saw that even this must have a limit and dying of malnutrition was beyond that limit.

In our picture round of quiz last night, Mel Gibson

Moonwatcher1904 Thu 04-Jan-24 15:30:35

MayBee70 I think that's a good point. I have never been suntanned or spent hours basking in the sun. My mum never did either. Much as people love to spend hours in the sun it must damage your skin no matter what creams you put on it.

Judy Dench, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter - people with gorgeous hair.

Men who are fortunate enough to retain a full head of hair often look younger.

Indeed. No hair (apart from Stanley Tucci) is not a good look.

MayBee70 Thu 04-Jan-24 17:20:31

I disagree about Colin Firth. I don’t think he’s aged at all well.

M0nica Thu 04-Jan-24 22:27:31

Colin Firth was always over-rated as to his looks anyway.

Jane43 Thu 04-Jan-24 22:46:46

Bryan Ferry - we went to see Roxy Music last October and he is looking fantastic for 78, his singing voice isn’t what it was but you can’t have everything.

Casdon Thu 04-Jan-24 23:01:06

He is looking great Jane43, I saw him too, at the O2, and he hasn’t lost it, for sure.
