Dustyangel we must have been in Malta around the same time. DD was born in Mtarfa 50 years ago this weekend!

Good morning all from a wet Algarve.
I’ve only got as far as Marydoll’s post in my catching up with you all this morning but it brought back memories for me of our time in Malta fifty plus years ago.
I must have been due to have DD sometime very soon as there was only DH, me and three year old son in the car that we were driving round Valletta in when DS who had just learnt to swear decided to push his luck. He’d been playing with Maltese three year olds and I had just had it explained to me by DH that four letter words were international.

We’d done all the right things including ignoring it when our son started swearing but he obviously realised that it wound both of us but especially DH up.

He’d been dangerously messing about in the back of the car, with both of us telling him to sit down and be good ,when he pushed himself right to the back of his seat ( pre seat belts) and called DH a F…R .
DH stamped on the brakes, screeched to a halt and reached round and grabbed hold of him when fortunately he realised that he’d done an emergency stop right outside the Police station. We decided that calmly driving on was the best thing to do and neither of us EVER heard DS swear again.

Thanks Pantglas - much needed! I was awake at that time, not having slept at all. Did get a couple of hours 💤 after the cuppa though!

I had to laugh Stilllearning - that would be the Irish version of O Holy Night? I assume?
Grandmattie I thought mosques did in fact have a crescent on the top of their domes- was your card picture like this?

Really enjoyed the music club yesterday although not a big turnout and then gave a lift to another member before a little shopping.
More appointment making today and really must try to turn in earlier at night. I enjoy the evenings so much under my heated throw with books, IPad and tv, I drop off in front of the television 🙄

Good morning Mick and all from cloudy Lancashire, currently 7°C.

Yesterday the weather was dreadful with heavy rain all day. My balance was playing up and I fell over while reaching for something. I have a few bruises but nothing damaged. So I didn’t bother going for a walk. MrB was waiting all day for a call from the hospital, his brother in law was having a small procedure and needed collecting afterwards. It was 9pm by the time they called so an unpleasant drive in the dark with torrential rain. Today will be a quiet day and as there is only light rain and a gentle,breeze forecast I will try again for a short walk.

I haven’t read the thread yet so I shall do that now. Hoping today is kind to us all🌻G

It was your turn to warn me Pant, lovely to see you back.
It was also lovely to see lots of old friends dipping in on new year’s morning. Only got a chance to read this morning so belatedly wishing you all a peaceful, 2024.
Our travel plans delayed due to flooding. On our way to France in a couple of days for a month of fun with old friends from La Rochelle to St Tropez including two weeks in Villereal where we lived for three years.
No social media allowed until February. Only packing Orlin’s phone for emergency use.
I’m sooo excited.

Good morning from Glasgow. A bright blue sky to the north and a grey one to the south. Not surprisingly, it’s raining.

Probably an at home day doing bits of housework or whatever.
I too have made a start on taking decorations down but I am not quite ready yet to lose the cheery glow of fairy lights in the kitchen or those on tall plants during this gloomy weather.

Despite the forecast predicting light rain it is absolutely hurling itself against the windows and is barely light at 9.00 am. Not much incentive to do more than put away the few decorations and go through the cards to see what letters I need to write. I have not watched The Crown so have succumbed and ordered the first four series to help me through the next couple of months. I hate January and February even more this year!

Good morning Mick and everyone from Carlisle where we are promised sun and cloud today. It rained a lot yesterday and overnight but not heavily. The worst weather seems to have been further south.

More housework and laundry this morning and more reading this afternoon. The sci-fi classic I started is rather weird but Rory Stewart's memoir is much more pickup-able and engaging.

I'm thinking of taking down my cards, it won't bring bad luck if I do so before 12th Night, will it?!
I've been polishing my halo by going through various drawers in the bedroom, having a chuck out of redundant toiletries and putting accessories etc by for the charity shop. I'm still resisting tackling the freezer.

I'm having a no-spend January, I'm only going to buy things I can justify a need for. My wardrobes and drawers will take no more! This resolution may be tested tomorrow when I have to go into town!

The weather, nor my cold, nor my stroke will hold ME back because I’m going to Sainsbury's today for a food shop with my carer and I’ll probably meet someone I know in Sainsburys - I always do.

Good morning from N.Bucks where it is not raining but the ground is sodden. There are several roads flooded. Poor DH is missing his golf.
My cough and eye are improving but I shall miss WI and craft club today. DH will take the cake in I’ve made.
Cheered ourselves up yesterday by booking a holiday for September, Greek islands.
A little bit of ironing to do and then I intend to sketch/paint. Currently I am doing a 30 day sketching challenge . We are given a prompt each day and it is very interesting to see how many interpretations there are.

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s dry and there is a pretty sunrise.
Yesterday was a bit of a non day. I have a nasty cough which is leaving me with a sore chest so I spent the day reading and knitting. It’s not much better today but I need to get on with some bits and pieces. I’m wondering about a call to the gp, I’m not sure they would offer anything.
It’s interesting that most of us have packed our Christmas decs away. It always used to be 12th night. Perhaps it’s because it all seems to start so much sooner.
I hope the storm mess is sorted and flooding lessens for those affected.

Good morning all and it’s very quiet here after yesterdays storm. Poor gd1 had problems getting back to Southampton as many trains were cancelled. Took her over 6 hours. Ditto ds1 getting home from London (3 hours) . They were both rescued by friends picking them up at some point. We kept in touch by family wassap.

Church first thing for me, then up to town for a trip to the library, a bank visit with Dh and a coffee in the lovely little tearooms. It’s market day so it will be busy.

What a lot of driving you and your dh have had Ash . Glad you had a safe journey.

I hope the flooded villages are soon cleared.

Good morning all from a dry Black country looks like the sun is trying to make an appearance.
May take a trip to the shops but not desperate for anything, see what DH wants to do once he's up.
Only the tree to take down then we can begin to get back to normal.

still, I agree. I received very nice Christmas card from one of SiL’s sisters with a bauble showing a “middle eastern townscape”. What threw me completely was the fact that the central and, therefore most important building, had a crescent _ moon_ on top!

Good morning and a Happy New Year to you all.

I felt very off colour all weekend. On New Years Day I tested positive for Covid. As we’d had a family party last Thursday I checked with everyone who was there. Only DD2 said she felt unwell and she has also tested positive last night. I’m rather annoyed with her because she asked me if I could still take the GCs today. For the first time I said no as I’m feeling really ill (as is she). This is far worse than getting it in March 2022 which was just a mild sniffle. I’ve been in bed for 3 days for the first time for many years and yet nevertheless I feel I’ve somehow let her down.

BlueSapphire good luck with reading Demon Copperhead. I’m finding it quite a slog and I’m only half way through (book is just under 600 pages). Although it’s written in American English it may as well be a translation from another language entirely.

DH has a dental appointment this morning but other than that a day at home.We are both feeling exhausted after a difficult couple of weeks and feel in limbo until MIL’s funeral in two weeks.

Good morning everyone from a dry, chilly Northampton, but light showers forecast over lunchtime - which is exactly when I need to be in town!

I have a hearing appointment at 12, then a quick lunch somewhere, and meet a friend at 2pm for the cinema. We are going to see the film 'Ferrari'; not that I am into Formula 1, but it looked interesting, set in the early days (1950s) of motor racing. And views of Italy, which are always worth it!

Another long day yesterday of torrential rain; cleaned both bathrooms, and two loads of washing.
Got stuck into my new book in the afternoon, Demon Copperhead - its better than I thought it would be.

Still troubled by this dratted neuralgia; having consulted Dr Google,. there's not much I can do except take painkillers, and have tried a warm wheat-bag, which does help. Shall have to ring the surgery if it doesn't ease. The fourth day of it, never had it this long before.

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, still dark but it sounds quiet. I’ve had a lovely Christmas/New Year season and will start adjusting to normal life today. Meeting a friend for a visit to Mackinnon Mills in search of kitchen chair cushions. Will have coffee or lunch in their nice cafe, depending on how we feel.

Like many others I get so annoyed at the drop in standards of education in our country but sometimes you can only choose to laugh or cry, I will try to attach a photo of a Christmas card received by my sister!

Yesterday was quite a challenge with the boys. They are going through a phase of bickering with each other. However separately they are wonderful. I wonder if they just needed a break from each other. Dgs1 stayed over and has been a joy. Currently he's sitting beside me on the couch, wearing his dinosaur jammies and dressing gown, and watching racing cars cartoons. He's been up for a while but played quietly in his bedroom until I went through. I feel very fortunate to have these wee boys in my life. His dad will pick him up this morning, then later I'll visit mum. Have a good day all

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is dry. Hurrah! Welcome home Ash and OldD. That’s quite a drive. DGS and I put away Christmas yesterday, after a few shenanigans with the loft ladder - neither of us is very good at getting it up and down! He stayed over last night and today we have a cookery lesson planned but I am also taking him out to lunch as a treat for all his help, and for just being a joy!
I heard yesterday that one of the members of our writers group died over the Christmas holiday. She was elderly but still wrote the most wonderful poetry. I hope her family will find a way to publish some of it.
