I can hardly type this for laughing but I dumped a lad because he wore white string underpants!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Good Morning Wednesday 29th July 2026
What is your favourite healthy vegetarian meal?
Before anyone jumps on me for passive aggressive bullying, this is intended to be a light hearted thread.
Two years ago I told my granddaughters that as a teenager I refused to go out with a boy after I’d heard him call Coca Cola, fizzy pop!! 😮😂 I thought him deeply uncool.
They shrieked with laughter and said he’d obviously given me ‘the ICK.’ I’d never heard this expression before (along with many others) and the dictionary definition says it’s something that causes disgust. Well, I wouldn’t go that far! 😂
Last week I had lunch with a group of friends and sat opposite a man I didn’t know. I didn’t mind that he talked at length about his past career, many qualifications, years of service etc., etc., I can zone out when that happens but it was when he cut up his naan bread with a knife and fork and dipped each dainty little square in the sauce that I thought Eeeek! Or should that be ICK?? 🤣🤣🤣
So, what gives you the Ick? Of course it’s not always men- I hasten to add!

GSM the one that got away possibly many can look back and say if only
Went out with some "friends" nightclubbing which turned out to be awful. Met a really lovely guy, exceptionally smartly dressed (some might say excessively - smart trousers, shirt, waistcoat, bowtie (yeah, I know!) ) and we just clicked. Sat chatting ALL night and arranged to meet the next day. He got out of his car and it was like looking at a different person. Scruffy, looked like he'd just got out of bed and just NOT who I'd spent the night with. Sounds shallow, but thought I'd give him a chance. Seem to recall he was a little older than me (I was probably about 22? Some years ago now!). We went for a walk in the countryside which was lovely, but then he just started sobbing, about how other girls had treated him and how lovely and amazing I was and how he wanted us to be together forever (after less than 24hrs!). Still thought I'd give it a chance but the nail in the coffin was when I called him a day or so later and his dad was mucking about in the background "Ted's got a new girlfriend" and "When are you getting married?". Then actually taking the phone out of his hand and continuing being an arse. Didn't last long after that.
There are others but they're just too long winded and from a long time ago. Mostly as a result of me being too nice to people and an inability to tell folk to get lost!! Haha.
I would have fancied him when I was a year or two older and could see beyond the fashion of the day and the need for my mates’ approval. Good looking, rich family, French accent …
GSM all that aside if you didn’t fancy him what’s the point
When I was about 14/15 a boy who lived in the same village and caught the same school bus took a shine to me. He was good looking but not ‘cool’. He was French. I was teased mercilessly by my friends. He asked if he could take me to the cinema. I said he must ask my parents. He did but I had primed them to say no, I was too young (I wasn’t allowed boyfriends then anyway). The slightly older me realised, too late, that his parents were absolutely loaded and his manners were impeccable, his accent very sexy …
If your heart has been set on fire you won’t notice the little things
I don’t think that includes going on about the X
In my teens I had one date with a boy who knew my address. It was my birthday a few days later and a card arrived in a box tied with ribbon and with romantic words inside from him. I was so embarrassed especially because my parents saw it. So it ended before it had even started.
Hi Spore ,
A well meaning friend fixed me up with one of her old friends .
It was great at first and then his vile tempers , moods and excessive drinking became apparent .
And what I found impossible to accept-he never stopped talking about his ex .
She'd left him and he couldn't come to terms with it .
I think that there was one final ick .
He met her when making a pornographic film .
But -
I could fully understand why she'd left him .
I did too .
When he tried to pull at my heartstrings by telling me how heartbroken he was when his ex left him and I could swear I saw tears in his eyes.
Eeek… first and last date with me.
When he removed his shoes and socks (things were going well) and ICK 👀 - long toenails.
Love your sister DrWatson
Grateful thx Merlot, for a wonderful thread! So funny! I showed some of the stories to IsNibs, who said he wasn't at all surprised, having played football and cricket with all sorts of blokes.
The chap who unzipped himself, wanting to "put this where it belongs" is lucky he didn't meet my sister, who'd have zipped him up again without putting anything away first.
The only lad I can think of that I had a YIK moment with , was when i was about 18 ….he asked me out to the cinema, and as it was a film I’d wanted to see I said I would go with him. He later called me to arrange to meet outside cinema on the Saturday following , which was the way things were done . I asked what time the film was showing and he said there were two showings …an evening and matinee , and we would have to go to the matinee because his mum licked the house doors at 10pm and he wasn’t allowed a key …..he was anout 23 at the time!
I told him I refused to go to a matinee unless it was with my two tiny nephews( 2 and 4 ) at the time. We ended before we had started! After I married and moved away I heard he was still living with mum and still wasn’t allowed a key ….that was 6 years later!!! Dodged a bullet. !!
@Romola,
Of course I'm stunningly gorgeous, NOT!
I'm very, very average, but wouldn't take any messing about, bad manners, or rudeness from boyfriends.
I usually knew within two or three dates whether or not I really liked them, and if I didn't, they were dumped, usually very gently.
I never saw the point in wasting their time, or mine!
Here's a few I've just remembered:
"You'd look great with a bit of grooming."
"You have good thighs but I prefer your friend"
"My mum said 'Why don't you go out with Tracy?'"
Spitting is Ick. Horrendous kissing is very ick. I knew immediately that when my boyfriend kissed me he was the one for me. I’d not enjoyed kissing anyone else until then. We had 43 happy married years and I’d give a lot for a snog with him now.
I once finished with someone because he was a noisy eater.

So it wasn’t the fact that he was looking at children in the playground, but that he wasn’t concentrating on kissing you..In the early 70's we weren't so aware of the implications especially if we were young.
He might possibly have been checking to see if the children were not watching the snogging?🤔

I went out with a "very suitable" boy from a respectable family (his mother was a Justice of the Peace) so you can imagine how thrilled my mam was. We are talking early 70's. Things were going well but one day, for some reason while "snogging" I opened my eyes, and he was trying to look past me at some children in the school playground. That was it for me - I needed someone to fully concentrate on the job in hand, which for me meant closing your eyes. He gave me the ike!!
Another clever absent minded type picked me up in his Skoda (I know they are ok now) and a spring or something in the passenger seat immediately made its presence felt. He then crashed into a bollard…
Actually I eventually fell for him, but he was still in love with his ex😢
Lucyd
He had a car 🚘 !! wow you must have moved in posh circles
As a student I didn’t know anyone who had a car Let alone picked me up in one. Mind you it was up north
