Good morning from a dark & dry Sefton. Feels very cold.
A busy day ahead today. Zoom exercise class first thing quickly followed by Pilates in our nearby market town. A hurried lunch then off to pick up our younger granddaughter from nursery. She will keep us entertained whilst mum & dad work from home. We will stay for our tea....a no cooking day.😀
I always enjoyed a Mary Wesley book grandMattie. Amazing that she didn't start writing until she was 70. Good luck with getting your storage heaters sorted.
Have a good day all. Take care out there.

Good morning from a sunny Gran Canaria, where it has been around 21 deg so far this week.

Down to breakfast shortly, then a stroll to the beach.

Wishing you all the best day possible

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a damp, dreary South Yorkshire. It was lovely to be back volunteering at school yesterday; whether the children thought so is another matter but they all seemed bright and breezy. Writers group at the library today will be sad as one long standing member died at Christmas. A lovely lady and a wonderful poet, she will be sadly missed. I’ll make a slow cooker chicken curry this morning.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning from Shropshire where another dry and cold day is forecast.

Welsh class went better than I thought it would after a four week break. We booked a holiday yesterday for later in the year.

We are waiting for the Sky engineer who will be here between 8-1.

Lovely photos NannyJan.

Hoping Marydoll is feeling better and thoughts to all with worries about loved ones.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

grandMattie Wed 10-Jan-24 08:21:15

Thanks, lulu. All it needs it to be off for a few hours, then b3 rebooted. But it is a pain when it is as cold as it is ATM.
Glad to know your eyesight is not deteriorating, Ash and you can still drive.

Marydoll Wed 10-Jan-24 08:22:09

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 0°C.

A lovely, heartwarming post, Bella.

Nothing much to report. Life has ground to a halt at the moment, I'm struggling a bit. Spent yesterday morning in bed, hence my non appearance on the thread. DH let me sleep on, in the hope I would feel a bit better.
I feel my ill health is beginning to define who I am and dominate my life, something I do not want and am trying to prevent. This is another reason I am reluctant to post much. I am a grumpy old woman and don't want to moan.😉

There was so much sadness on the thread yesterday and I send my best wishes to all.
For those of you coughing, I hope you find some relief, it is exhausting. I have had my hacking cough since February last year when I was in HDU, without any signs of it abating!
At least it curtails my nagging wittering, ( I don't have the breath to talk) much to DH's delight! 🤣

Have a good day folks, whatever your plans.

Morning all from what looks like a chilly S E Essex 🥶

We are back from our short break to Espana, on the whole the weather was glorious. We had restorative sunny days, walked many miles, enjoyed The three Kings celebrations.

It brought back many happy memories of living in the next town which was just a small fishing village when it was my family home. I still haven’t been brave enough to visit where we lived since the death of my darling Mum and step-father, we turn left not right at the main road and Paseo.

I have managed to bring a home a head cold, consequential I feel snotty & grotty as my children say…

Have a good day, keep warm and dry, will try to catch up with all your news today, but would like to say how pleased I am to see Pantglas and Bellasnonna posting

GrannyGravy13 Wed 10-Jan-24 08:24:25

Pantglas2 & Bellasnanna. Sorry for misnaming you both

Gingster Wed 10-Jan-24 08:25:01

Good morning all and no school run for me. Yippee!
I can hunker down for another hour without rushing around in this icy weather.

Not sure what’s on today but will decide as the day emerges.

GG enjoy the rest of your holiday. Sounds lovely.
Helter skelter I too wondered what ‘bottoming the bedroom’ meant. Oh dear 😳! Never heard of this! Sounds like a lot of work . I’ll join Urms in the #‘lazy gran brigade. Spring cleaning will come around soon enough. 🤣.

GM hope your heating is now on 🥶.

I hope you all have a pleasant day. Keep cosy.

Gingster Wed 10-Jan-24 08:26:26

Crossed posts GG. Glad you’re back safe and sound. Sorry you’ve got a cold though. Take care.

Jaxjacky Wed 10-Jan-24 08:37:52

Morning from a cold, frosty S Hants. I’ve had speakers like that llfl where I’m silently hoping no one asks any questions.
Better news on your eyes Ashcombe.
Yesterday I had an energy burst of cleaning in the morning, a chilly, but sunny walk and then slumped later on. I did sign up for Birdwatch and noted when our local U3A meet, I’ll go next week.
Today MrJ needs to replace a brake light bulb in his car, I’ll ‘help’, chicken casserole for dinner.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 1° and grey. No visible signs of frost though. Ash good news so far about your eyes. GrandMattie hopefully the heater will kick in soon after a reboot. Susan I'm impressed at your Welsh learning dedication.
Yesterday dgs2 and I went for our usual walk and played with toys before and after. He was a bit tetchy yesterday, just being a toddler! However he settled down and had a good nap. I even managed to put a gammon joint in the slow cooker and had some last night.
Today is my recovery day 😂. I'm up later than the last two days and will potter quietly about. I'll visit mum later. Have a good day all

Urmstongran Wed 10-Jan-24 08:54:48

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry and chilly again. I need to buy birthday cards for my sister in Spain, a friend who will be 70y, our Yorkshire Lass who is approaching 46y and the baby of our family - L’il Miss who will be 7y and is so excited already about the venue for her party this month and can’t wait to hand out invitations to all her friends!

Here’s Matt.

Good morning from North Yorkshire. A bright start to the day.
My cough is settling down and I’m feeling much better. I’m still staying out of the cold a bit longer so my day will be a bit of housework , knitting reading and puzzles. I have some plans for Friday so I’m hoping to be ok to be out and about then.
Lots of poorlies and sadness but also some happy stuff on here…all of life really.
Take care out there

Optomistic1 Wed 10-Jan-24 09:00:24

Good morning from a dull but dry Cheshire. I am new to this chat forum this week so hello. I am shocked at how early some of you get up! I retired 3 years ago but my greatest joy is not having to get up early so I don’t,!

I am going to a car showroom this morning to talk about a new car … wish me luck. I just hope I am not there too long as they do like to draw it out.

My gardener is due today - first visit of the year. Not a lot for him to do but I can always yell when he’s been which is nice.

FaceTiming my old boss at 4 who retired at the same as me - we are ex NHS so no doubt will have lots to talk about including how glad we are that we got out!

Have a lovely day everyone and stay well.

GrannySomerset Wed 10-Jan-24 09:04:14

Session with the dental practice for a scrape and scrub this morning, singing this afternoon. Although very cold it is bright and cheering after what felt like weeks of rain so I am not grumbling. Sorry Marydoll is finding life so hard and hope that the various ailments being reported ease soon.

Jaxjacky Wed 10-Jan-24 09:05:01

Good morning Optomistic1 and welcome, good luck at the showroom, I did the same just over three years ago.

Taichinan Wed 10-Jan-24 09:05:38

Good morning Mick and all from a brightish-grey Angus coast. A higher temperature today, 4-7°, but tempered by a stiff breeze out of the north-east.
I had a good night's sleep last night which was lovely. I think I was exhausted after all the gadding about up and down the country, and all the excitement of being with so many of my beautiful family. The gynae procedure on Monday wasn't the pleasantest and was a bit of a shock to the system, and yesterday was back to tai chi! Getting back into my old quiet routine is going to be rather nice 😉
Stilllearning I'm so glad you found those night driving glasses useful. What I realise now is that they have given me my night driving confidence back and I wish I'd discovered them years ago!
Now I must be off as I have an appointment in Perth this afternoon and the house still looks as if a whirlwind has hit it since my return. It requires just a little TLC before I go out. And yes, I shall be returning after dark 🕶️ 😁
Have the best day you can everyone, and for some of you let the happy memories override the sadness and grief. My mantra during life's hard times is "And this too shall pass" flowers

harrigran Wed 10-Jan-24 09:15:49

Good morning from a cold NE where more rain is promised.
Slept late this morning, I was really tired after waking at 3am yesterday.
SIL will be coming this morning and we will do a grocery shop and collect my prescription.
I know what it is like searching for holiday lets Baubles, I was doing it last week. We needed a sleeps eight but without allowing dogs because of allergies. Belive me it is easier to find a dog friendly let.
Have a good day all.

Welcome to this lovely thread Optomistic1 👋

EkwaNimitee Wed 10-Jan-24 09:18:04

Good morning Mick and everyone from dry Carlisle where we have cloud and patches of pale blue. Looks a bit showery. We actually had sunshine yesterday though it was very cold.

karmalady I'm with you on no housework in the afternoons, nor on Sunday either, not for religious reasons but because I enjoy a day of complete leisure. Life is too short to overindulge in housework. As long as everything is hygienic and tidy, I'm happy.
I'm off into town shortly to investigate, and probably buy, a sound bar. My aging sound system has never worked too happily with my modern tv. I'm always nervous about getting new tech though in case it causes problems setting it up. Sometimes it's better the devil you know....
Oh, and in my 'no unnecessary spend' January, it's an established need, not a want!

Have a good day, everybody.

RosiesMaw Wed 10-Jan-24 09:19:58

Good morning from bright January sunshine in N Bucks.
Cold though we had a hard frost in the night which may put paid to my plans to plant some “in the green” snowdrops on DH’s grave this afternoon . We’ll see.
This morning OperaPlus restarts , we’re looking at/listening to/learning more about “Norma”
“Bottoming “ bedrooms, tidying out kitchen cupboards and washing floors doesn’t sound like “not doing very much” to me either - I’m firmly in the #lazygran camp
(My cleaner came yesterday anyway so that should do me for a bit !)
Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Grandmachrisy47 Wed 10-Jan-24 09:20:27

Morning from a damp Co Durham.
Dgd and dogs dropped off as usual then she was scooped up from the doorstep by her friend and her mum. I’ll have to go on my exercise bike to compensate 😂
Hope those feeling poorly get relief soon. Welcome to our new poster.

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞Northampton; 0°C outside and the road and footpath look very frosty and slippy.

At last managed to speak to a doctor yesterday about the blood tests I had at the beginning of December- it turns out that I have a borderline marker for myeloma; was reassured that it was only slight, but will be tested again in 6 months, and at the moment is nothing to be worried about. If it has gone up then, I will be referred to the hospital. Relief all round.

If that is a not doing much day, karmalady I would like to know what a full-on one looks like! #very lazy gran here!

Enjoyed a walk in the lovely sunshine 🌞 yesterday with my group, followed by coffee and chat at the sports centre. Home to read more of Demon Copperhead, but kept nodding off!

Planning on getting the Shark into the nooks and crannies of the soft furniture this morning, then after lunch out to the well-being cafe this afternoon, which I have not been to since the end of November. Still gradually emptying the garage freezer, but there is only so much I can fit into the food waste caddy, so it is taking ages.

Take care with slippy surfaces if you're out and about today.

Oopsadaisy1 Wed 10-Jan-24 09:52:05

Good morning from a sunny Oxfordshire, however it’s bitingly cold with the Easterly wind and very frosty, so I’m staying indoors today, MrOops is outside topping up the bird feeders, they are costing us a fortune!
I embroidered a badge to go onto the dogs new coat and it’s spurred me on to do some shoe bags for the newest great nephews and nieces, so the machine is out and waiting for me to get cracking. I just need to sort out which embroidery patterns to use, I might do some for next Christmas whilst I’m at it.
The jigsaw still sits…….
Welcome to Optimistic
Marydoll 💐
Have a good day everyone, stay warm and stay safe.
