Pavement Potholes!

Just another piece of neglect by our current no maintenance policy government. Yes, mostly implemented by councils who have been cash reduced/starved by the aforementioned govt.

I know it was pothole in a road, but I reported a very large one on Sunday on the website ‘Fix my Street’ and it was mended today, Thursday! You could try reporting the pavement on that.

Report the problems to your local Council or your Parish Council, tell them the names of the road or footpaths affected, tell them that if you fall you will sue them.

The roads are maintained by the County Council not the local council

Go to one of the meetings they advertise in the leaflets, or contact them via the info on the leaflets. Our pavements are not in a good state, but when I complained (with photos) about the bushes and weeds encroaching on the pavement, our local councillor came round to look. She did point out that some of it was the homeowners responsibility, but even so, in about a fortnight, the pavements were clear again. That was a couple of years back. Unfortunately it needs doing again now.

Underfunding of Councils by the Tory government is the underlying reason for poor maintenance of footways and roads.

My mum has to use a wheeled trolley to walk out of doors. The pavement between her house and the nearest bus stop is so rough that she has to walk up the road instead.

I totally agree mae13, our pavements are dreadfully uneven. Obviously, when they are first 'installed' they are smooth and trouble-free, then along comes the utility companies, broadband providers etc. who dig them up to install pipes and cables not to mention the disruption caused by tree roots and someone wanting an extra drop-curb to their own driveway they are soon turned into an obstacle course.

I agree, our pavements are appalling in some places so many houses having building works with heavy lorries driving across pavements and footpaths dug up for new cables pipes etc.. Even in my local park and footpaths so much damage. I suppose complaining to the council is the only way bring attention to it.
