The taking of photographs

I take quite a lot of pictures, including many of DGC. I have made albums for each of them with pictures taken when they’ve stayed with us, and all the fun we had. I hope they’ll enjoy looking at them when they’re older.

I do think it matters and that it is not good for our 'mental health' to be continually photographing life instead of living it. Personally I rarely want to see anyone else's photos or videos and heave a secret sigh of dread every time a dear friend of mine pokes her phone under my nose! As for fireworks, surely the excitement is in being there. Some people think too much about how to impress on social media - and that also affects 'mental health'!

As well as family photos I like taking pictures of the sky, especially at sunset or when there are clouds. Also close-ups of garden flowers. I occasionally delete some or resolve to get them printed or saved.

Daft for me, but I care not what others do apart from being forced to view others' darlings (I then am 'too busy' to sit and look).

I take all photos with my phone ….really special ones …. like kids/grandkids at Xmas and birthdays…I have printed of and put in old fashioned albums….my daughter and sil will not let family photos anywhere near social media….our photos are precious.?
My granddaughter found my digital camera the other day and I was showing her some vids I’d taken of her as a baby …about 10 years ago …she went wild over them …do I have her the camera . She said she’d have to learn to use such ‘old technology’
Apparently it’s inspired her and she asked for a proper camera for Xmas which her mum obliged her with! Who knows…next David Bailey!,

I am useless at taking photos, and on the odd occasion that I have tried to video an event, I have done missed out on the 'live' experience and not even had anything worth looking at afterwards.

I remember watching the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games soon after this practice became widespread (cant renember the exact year I first saw it), and was rather taken aback to see the majority of the athletes holding their phones in the air as they paraded around the arena, filming everyone else.
To be honest, I thought it was rather crass, as they were there as participants, not spectators, and it's not like there will be any shortage of official filming of the event that they would be able to watch afterwards, is it!
It was nice to see that a small number of countries had clearly forbidden the practice, as not a single phone was to be seen amongst their athletes, and they looked all the more professional for it - like real Olympic athletes, rather than entrants in something like the Eurovision Song Contest.

I wonder - have actors on stage started to pull out their phones to video their audience during the performance or the the encores yet?

Yes, I know I'm grumpy!

I have nearly 7000 photos on my camera and love looking through them I use one of the monthly free print apps so still have loads and loads of photo albums which the adult grandkids love going through every time they come to visit

Me too I take lots of photos every day but try to delete them often the ones I aren’t happy with Will they stay in my phone and cause issues in due course filling up my phone ??

James&Jon. Your mentioning live models reminded me of myself aged 20 and expecting a 3rd baby ( I started young)
I was getting to that big as a bus stage when the visiting midwife asked me if I would like to earn a couple of pounds by posing naked for her husbands camera club. “Seeing as your naked when dr examines you anyway” she said. So I did and had a very interesting couple of hours moving my baby bump around for the poses asked. Not exactly sexy ! There were 9 men and 5 women taking photographs and they were all delighted to have a very pregnant subject as they’d waited years to find a very pregnant woman who they could ask without greatly offending.
That was in 1965 . Wonder if any of those photos are still around. I was given 6 of them but they disappeared during a house move many years ago
