My son and his partner just had there first child on Thursday - my first grandchild. She was born by c-section a bit early due to weight gain problems and other issues. She is fine thankfully as are her Mum and Dad. I have searched out this website as was looking for help and advice as I feel so overwhelmed with love and emotion following the birth of this little one -it's taken me by surprise. I have been reading previous articles on the forums on your website about this, so know that I am not the only one. I almost feel embarrassed at how emotional and teary I feel, and as much as I want to be with my son, his partner and baby all of the time, I'm fighting very hard not be over the top, and give them time to themselves and allow others time with them. It's sooo hard though.! I know the right thing to do is to offer practical support if they need it, shopping, cleaning or a meal to be made, once they are home. I have to done this. They are still in hospital at the moment. I saw my new granddaughter for the first time for an hour last night but could not cuddle her as she was under lamps for jaundice. Hopefully, in the coming weeks and days, I will settle down and get to spend a bit more time with them. I think my worry stems from me being mother of the baby's daddy - I think it would be different, and I might feel more involved if I was maternal grandmother, who knows? As a couple, my son and his partner are very independent, and I just worry that I won't be given the opportunity to play as big a part in my granddaughter's life as I would like to. Probably worrying over nothing.... any advice or comments would be appreciated
