I have a special room…do you?

AskAlice, these are my pegboards, much more expensive than ikea but if I ever move they will come with me. I cut some dowels myself, made them longer so that the bigger cones for an overlocker will stay on. I have some of the shelves too, very useful. I have a large pegboard on either side of the window

plus I had one in their sale that has 2 wide shelves above my desk, I keep files on that, sewing machine oils, a small clock (because I get carried away) radio etc. I turned the ordinary old fashioned heavy computer desk on its side and cut the feet off and I removed the keyboard tray. Nice to sit at for sewing now, the right height

I spend a lot of time in our upstairs study but that's because I work from home. On the upside though, it's a room with charm & a lovely outlook & once I retire (not long now!) could well become my special room

I keep feet in a storage tray with lid with divided areas, every area numbered and a list on the lid

No special rooms here.
My favourite room is the conservatory attached to the kitchen.

I live alone so my whole house is my studio.. art work everywhere..

I'm with pascal. I live alone my bungalow is my craft space and my library.

We have the smallest bedroom/office which a few years ago was my crafting/family history space but it is now full of my late Mum’s bits and pieces plus stuff belonging to son who moved back home.

I do have the summerhouse in the warmer months and I love being out there reading, listening to the radio, crocheting etc. it gets the sun from late morning until it goes down.

What prompted me to ask the question was watching YouTube videos where people are filming from their painting studios, craft/sewing rooms, or home gyms. I always thought we’re very fortunate to have our games room, but recently have come to realise that many other people have a dedicated room for their interests.

karmalady those peg boards look fabulous, but a bit beyond me in price at the moment. Maybe I'll treat myself when I have a bit more to spare

I use some bobbin holders that I bought on Amazon, along with little clips that stop the bobbins unwinding and tangling. Very useful as before that I was forever searching through stacks of tangled bobbins for the right one!

My home is my oyster, plenty of room for just me. There is a large spare bedroom filled with storage stuff which belongs to my sons. I choose to sleep in a very small bedroom as I like small spaces. There is another small spare room which now houses my freezer and tinned food and spare wardrobe.
So you can see that there is no space for a hobbies room.
I would quite like a walking machine but don't know where it could live.

I have a craft room, which also houses my PC. I like the peace and quiet, when I have parish admin to do.
DH also has a study, which houses his PC and hobby stuff. We used to share a PC, but as soon as my last child left home, I claimed the smallest bedroom.

Sadly still getting used to having the whole house since last March.

Yes, it’s a bathroom with a lock on the door.
No one can get me in there!

I have a large house to myself but two rooms are more important to me, the study where my computers are and the music room where the instruments are and it has a big TV and play station.

Same as oldnproud- we bought this house with our needs as a family with 2 growing children in mind, now we don’t have anywhere to put everyone if the whole family visits, including 3 DGC. I think DH wants to avoid moving, but my plan would be a house big enough to accommodate family and friends when visiting, with enough space for hobbies and work.

I do notionally have work space in the downstairs back room, but that’s where everything gets shoved if we’re clearing space for visitors, so it’s completely disorganised.

I'm lucky enough to have 'my' room, with a walk in wardrobe leading off, complete with beautiful views from both rooms. I know this is a real privilege, and I enjoy it so much. I iron and watch TV, listen to music, do clothing repairs,wrap gifts using the ironing board - - it's my small world, with my favourite books. Only the quiet and gentle cats share it with me . OH and dogs are banned - too noisy.

Tink - sorry to hear that - the sad downside of having space. x

I have the conservatory as my craft (special to me) room. I can sit in there in the winter with the little heater on and watch the wildlife. Summer can get a bit hot but I love my own little space. It’s great for knitting, sewing, crocheting and watercolour painting. I can shut the door and the time and space is mine. Bliss!

We haven’t downsized from our family home so we have a lot of rooms. We had 4 children and they had a room each and we also have a study and a family room, laundry plus a couple of others. We think about downsizing but can’t bear the hassle ! Best thing is we have 2 bathrooms and 3 loos. My husband has a study, I have a study and a sewing room. The exercise bike is outside on the top decking, don’t want to look at the horrible thing.

I often yearn for a room of my own. You are so fortunate 😊. I'd love a study with a desk and lots of bookshelves, as I have a lot of books. I would also like a corner of the room to do crafts and hobbies. I would choose the furniture and decor myself (hubby and I have to compromise usually). I did used to share an office in the loft with my husband but he's immaculately tidy and couldn't bear my books being on my desk, even if they were stacked neatly 🤣.

I share a study/dressing room/come bedsit with DH.
We do have what were byres in the back garden unfortunately they face the wrong way to catch the sun or one would make a substantial sunroom. They are granddad" sheds."

Sorry, Tink, all my sympathies. No one wants all the space you have because of your circumstances.

I have always had my own study, which doubles as a guest bedroom.

As an academic, I needed a place where I could read and write without having to hear the TV.

DH regarded the whole house as mine, except for his workshop and the kitchen which he used as much as I did, and now, three months after his death I still find it impossible to sit in the sitting-room in the evenings, or even have the light on in there. I just miss him too much, as it was "his" room. Oddly enough I can sit there in the mornings or afternoons without turning into "Patience on a monument, smiling at grief".

I do. We’ve recently moved the 19 year old into the middle size bedroom as they needed more space and their bed was getting more rickety by the day.
So the smallest room is now mine. I’ve a chair, table and TV. Plenty of space for my sewing supplies and Lego.
I retreat in there on my days off while my husband is working at home in the living room.
Guests have to sleep in there on an airbed for now but the plan is to get a sofa/chair bed.
