How very odd some of the responses are. Quite clearly I know scant detail,as I made clear ,I am not talking about sheep or cows or a farm situation. I refer to an acquaintance who is breeding animals,selling them and using the money to fund holidays.
Since I have never set foot there,I can not comment on the living conditions of the queens and tomcat nor the frequency of litters.
Does every post warrant forensic questioning I wonder.
To echo your last sentence, does the situation you posted about initially warrant such a horrified reaction as you clearly have? That is why you received the questioning about the details of this breeder's methods.
You have admitted that you know nothing about how she goes about breeding them, but you also say that "it is grim" that the queens are permanently pregnant. If you believe that this is so, then inform the RSPCA at once If she is breeding enough kittens to have multiple holidays, then she should be licensed, and if she is found to be breaking regulations or maltreating the animals in her care, her licence will be revoked and she will be closely watched in future.
I think you have a general abhorrence of anyone selling, buying or using animals at all. That is a separate issue, and if you had not linked it with an implication that this woman was not only breeding and selling pets but also exploiting them and treating them badly, the replies could have been different.
As Aveline posted, most REPUTABLE breeders do it because they love to be surrounded by cats or dogs. They keep the kittens/puppies with their mothers until the age when in the wild they would naturally begin to leave and live independently, and they make sure that they are well fed, comfortable and happy.
Why not visit this breeder and see for yourself what conditions the animals are kept in, and whether they are relaxed and sociable? You could ask questions about the details that concern you.
