Breeding animals for money.

Dogs? Cats? Rabbits? Guinea pigs?
Licensed breeder?

Sheep? Cows?
Farmer?

Although most owners would say they breed to keep the bloodline going - there is a financial element involved. Very few (in my experience) only do it to cover their costs.

Yes, absolutely disgusting. They are living creatures not a commodity. If that person is breeding cats or dogs in particular then they are a disgrace, there are far too many in rescues now. Hopefully HMRC have been receiving payments from them. Incidentally, most breeders are not registered. You’ve only got to visit the likes of Scumtree and Freeads to see that.

Are the cats almost permanently pregnant?

My daughter’s friend whom I have known for 25 years, breeds occasionally, she is dedicated owner and vets all potential buyers.
She spends a lot of time and money and of course stud fees, it is a very time consuming and expensive process.
Her current litter of black labs are £1500 each.
She will no doubt come out of it with a healthy profit but why not?
Those dogs will give many years of joy to their owners.

A colleague reported someone to HMRC and the local council for breeding dogs....they were in a pretty awful condition.

Thankfully they did act...

She will have covered all bases with tax. The RSPCA would see reasonable care being taken ( should they call)

Well, I don't know why anyone would want a cat anyway!

However, is this a specialist breed?
I doubt that breeding any common or garden cat would make much money when so many are available for a small charge from a rescue centre.

Perhaps they are really well cared for.

I’m against all breeding unless by licensed ones and then again, only for a limited number. I’ve had dogs all my life and have never had puppies with any of them. I couldn’t live with myself for worrying if they were going to decent homes and cost is no assurance that the buyer is a good owner.

If the cat is pedigree and she has a licence no problem. These cats may be very expensive. What she chooses to do end the money on that she makes is no one's business.
You have stated she will have let HMRC know, and if the RSPCA call they will find no problem with the animals welfare.

There are enough animals in rehoming centres, if you want an animal for the right reasons then it shouldn't matter which breed it is.

It doesn't worry me if someone is licensed, informs HMRC, cares well for the animals and ensures the kittens or puppies go to good homes.

I do think that unlicensed breeders, puppy farms etc should be shut down and the animals found good homes. Some of these breeders have been given prison sentences, quite rightly, as the animals were sick and suffering.

However, there is a world of difference between these breeders.

I doubt any welfare organisations would do anything, unless the queen (no, not her!) was in a really bad way.
