It is one of my grandsons’s 21 st this weekend and he is throwing a party for fam and friends. So far there are about 150 coming , I think it has got a bit over the top. I like parties but I think this one will be overwhelming. My daughter and husband are shouting all the drinks and they have hired a room over a local bar. I think they’re nuts, personally but still. Horses for courses I suppose but I could see the costs absolutely bracketing because at that age some of them are big boozers. Maybe I am just an old fuddy duddy, I don’t know. Mouth kept firmly sealed, I hasten to add !

Neither DH nor I liked parties. He struggled to cope with the noise, and I just felt like a fish out of water with a room full of largely strangers. We were happier with dinner parties for a group of like minded friends and would regularly host six couples, and accept their invites in return. It was very much a case of mi casa, su casa.

If I’m lucky enough to be invited along first thing on my mind is am I free the next day to rest and recuperate! Of course I still love to party. I would go and just hope I’d be able to dance and dance. The next day however, I’d suffer the consequences.
