I am shocked and dismayed that the lovely, kind, gentle, quiet and caring Paul O’Grady is being replaced with……..
Alison big gob shouty Hammond!

She will scare every nervous dog in range of her loud voice and exaggerated arm movements. She is a physically large woman who will overwhelm most dogs.

Why couldn’t the Tv company find someone more suitable, perhaps someone younger and gentler and not so well known. Give someone else a chance. AH is absolutely everywhere at the moment and she’s already ruined bake off for me. Not a fan at all (don’t know why you’d think that 🤣).

Who do you think would be good?

I second Martin Clunes, and I know without doubt that he is a huge fan of dogs.

People seem to like Steven Fry, so maybe him, but he isnt my cup of tea at all.

Martin Clunes gets my vote - with Robson Green also a favourite.

A minute of Alison Hammond and you'd have to sedate my dogs .
We've always been very quietly spoken in our house and that's what our dogs were used to !

This really annoys me. Picking people to present subjects to which they have no connection whatsoever. To my knowledge Alison Hammond has no special interest in animals or animal charities. She therefore has little to no knowledge to say nothing of passion for the subject. It makes the whole thing a nonsense.

I might as well present a programme on nuclear physics. I only achieved a Grade C in maths but hey who cares. I'll wear a colourful jumpsuit and do a lot of unnecessary giggling.

She is brave stepping into Pauls shoes, he will be a hard act to follow.

I already started a thread about this a little earlier Whethertomorrow Alison Hammond is just flavour of the month. Paul O'Grady had a genuine love of animals.

valdavi Tue 30-Jan-24 19:19:52

Martin Clunes please!
But the dogs are the stars of the show as Paul O Grady used to say, so maybe we shouldn't mind too much who the human is.

Harris27 Tue 30-Jan-24 19:16:54

Martin clones or Robson green gets my vote.

I am obviously in the minority as I like Alison Hammond.

I like her as well. I don't understand all the vitriol

Patsy70 Tue 30-Jan-24 18:57:07

Another vote for Martin Clunes.

I wonder if they’ve thought to ask Queen Camilla who she’d like to do it?

She had a great rapport with Paul o’Grady and is patron of Battersea DH.

Actually, she’d be great at the job herself, she is definitely a grade A dog lover.

I don’t think Paul is actually replaceable, this show was his element.i just hope that the love he genuinely felt and showed for dogs is also felt by Alison, I don’t know enough about her to know if she’s a dog owner and lover.

He's not replaceable, is he.

The programme does need to continue, though, to highlight the work that Battersea Dogs' Home does and to encourage people to come forward to adopt these unwanted dogs and cats.

We'll have to see how it goes.

Dogs know whether people genuinely like them or not. All dogs flock to my husband as he loves dogs. My daughter’s partner is not keen and has never owned a dog. I was dogsitting a friend’s dog and he walked in and the dog snarled at him!

No idea why Alison Hammond is so popular with TV right now but I am sick of seeing and hearing her on everything.

Nell8 Tue 30-Jan-24 18:07:23

I wonder if the lovely Nigel Clarke likes dogs. He's brilliant with small people on CBeebies' Toddler Club and very easy on the eye for grannies.

Not a fan of Nikki myself, but apparently lots of votes for Martin Clunes.

Oh yes. Martin Clunes would be perfect.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 30-Jan-24 18:02:19

I have no idea who she is and the comments here and on another thread don’t encourage me to find out.

Definitely Martin Clunes

Callistemon21 Tue 30-Jan-24 17:52:58

Ben Fogle's father is a vet and co-founder of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Ben is a "doggy" person.

I can’t think of anybody worse but please not Matt Baker, Claire Balding ot Kate Humble.

I would go for Ben Fogle or Nikki Chapman.

shysal Tue 30-Jan-24 17:40:21

Paul had a pretty raucous voice, but the dogs loved him. Give Alison a chance! I am convinced that she has a gentle side. The loud side is encouraged for daytime TV. It will be down to the producers.

Knitandnatter Tue 30-Jan-24 17:35:31

Oh, do give the woman a chance! The dogs will soon let her know if they don't like her and we all aware. that Paul left some really wonderful boots to fill.
