Cornergran flowers my mother died 4 days after Mothers Day in 2010. Similar to yours was ill but we were told 4months, but I found her dead in bed one week after being told that. It does bring memories to the fore. Chin up.

brook2704 Wed 06-Mar-24 19:57:19

A lot of family worries and sadness in the kitchen just now, life’s tough isn’t it - so grateful to have the haven of this kitchen to curl up in

Baggs sending you much love, it must have been so difficult for you all and a long stressful journey ❤️

DGD is here for a sleepover, she’s just gone through to bed after an enjoyable evening. We played a few games and then cooked chicken pasta together which she really enjoyed. School run in the morning and then a rest for me

Hoping your DH can get something to help Yia and he gradually improves, such a long time for a lingering cough and feeling poorly

Sending hugs and ❤️ cornergran

Nannytopsy Wed 06-Mar-24 18:45:40

What a positive post Baggs - well done my dear. You are in the hearts of the kitchen. (And can I have a Baileys too please?)

Baggs Wed 06-Mar-24 17:26:43

Hello Kitcheneres! After seven hours driving (plus a few short breaks) I'm back home with a large Baileys, a cup of tea (or two), and a plain oatcake (or two). It has been a stressful trip down to BTDD's in some respects but good too. S-out-law could not face sorting BTDD's things so DDs 2&3 and I took on the job. This means I came home with a stuffed car again. Things will be sifted and sorted "in due course". In every other respect S-out-law is being super efficient as well as going back to work. The grandsons are on good form so there is a lot to be thankful for.

My sister called in on her way to see her pregnant daughter. We anticipate, in May, a great nephew/niece to add to the current number which is eleven. We sent sis on her way with a couple of the baby 'wraps' that BTDD used so effectively with the GSs to carry them about snugly and easily.

Forgive me for not responding to individuals' news but I have read the posts and send warm thoughts to those with trials to overcome ❤️❤️

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 06-Mar-24 16:11:01

I’ve just read your post Soop. You must be so excited about the reunion!

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 06-Mar-24 16:09:23

Hello kitchen people.
Wow, some of you have had a difficult time lately! I do hope things improve.
I spent the morning doing WI admin ready for tonight’s committee meeting.
I also rehung the new dining room curtains. There weren’t enough hooks on them so we added extra gliders to the rail.
A visit to the Vet proved expensive. Milo and Ripley had their boosters, annual check up and de-flea. Milo hissed the whole time and Ripley just goes limp,
They are safely home now.
OH is outside in his hammock for the first time this year. It’s not exactly warm, but very sunny.
I will toddle off to my meting before 6 pm and hope not to be too late. I think OH is cooking me fish and chips for dinner.
I hope all is well with the Soops.

soop Wed 06-Mar-24 16:05:48

Welcome back to the Kitchen, Feelingmyage. I lurve Rafa.

Doodle I echo all the good wishes being sent to you from our lovely Granspals.

Corner We share each other's joys and sorrows. We are here for you. It is good to talk. flowers

Yia Your husband's health issues have caused you ongoing anxiety. Now that he's in safe hands, I hope that there will be an improvement and he will turn the proverbial corner.

Mr Soop's skin cancer cannot be cured. We are hopeful that surgery to remove the more aggressive growths on his scalp will enable the worst areas to heal.

I apologise if I've missed mentioning all those of you who are coping with personal difficulties. You are all important. flowers

We signed the Power of Attorney documents this morning. As we are both not in the best of health, the solicitor will have matters dealt with by the close of next month.

My leg is very swollen. It is difficult to slip my shoe on. However, we have a big family reunion to prepare for. We are determined to enjoy the occasion. It promises to be the best yet. Bring it on! grin

GrannySomerset Wed 06-Mar-24 16:00:19

My sympathy, Cornergran, my DM died in 1958 but I still find the actual date really hard to deal with - so much left unsaid, so many joys not shared, so much gratitude not expresssed.

I have had a very difficult week or more with the adopted cat who has turned very aggressive with me - I have painful scars and bruises to show for it. So her former owner has taken her back and she is in temporary care while a new home is sought, though the local vet, who knows her, thinks she in not suitable now for rehoming. I am relieved that this very difficult experience is over but feel such a failure. After 40 years of cat ownership/slavery I really thought I could do this but apparently not. I am however much happier in my own home again.

Grandmabatty Wed 06-Mar-24 15:53:25

Cornergran 💐. Grief hits us below the belt sometimes. I think you can only acknowledge how you feel and accept the grief as a gift of love. Yiayia your poor husband. I hope they have suggested something to help him. Suedonim it's good to hear that your ds is coping with his treatment.
The Batty family are getting their money's worth from the NHS just now! The hospital phoned to say that they didn't like mum's colour and think she has gallstones. She is refusing medication so there's little they can do, but they have medication available for her if required. She doesn't seem to be in pain. I'll go and see her tomorrow afternoon.

Yiayia4 Wed 06-Mar-24 15:26:40

Thinking of you Cornergran🌹
I hope your pain is a bit less today Soop
All good wishes for your DH Doodle, hope all goes well.

It’s been an eventful couple of days for us.DH still coughing and not sleeping. So yesterday after not being able to contact our G.P we decided to go to A&E,it got to 7pm and because his oxygen stats were a bit low they asked us to come back in the morning. We have just got home and after lots of tests they think it’s long covid.Still some more results to come but it’s a relief as now it’s been going on for 3 months.Sorry for the rambling.
Enjoy your evening everyone.

Jaxjacky Wed 06-Mar-24 14:41:41

There are no rules cornergran with grief and if all around you have a maelstrom it can be the last straw, I hope as today goes on, it eases.
Those kittens SueD have literally and metaphorically landed on their feet 🙂 I’m pleased to hear your son is coping.
Caught you on the hop Doodle maybe in hindsight you’ll see it as less time to brood.
MrJ is at work, so no venturing out, shame as it’s a glorious day, I must temper my impatience.

Doodle Wed 06-Mar-24 04:42:27

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Suedonim hope this treatment works for your son. Glad he’s feeling a bit better.

cornergran Wed 06-Mar-24 00:17:08

I’m sorry you’re in pain soop. Hope the blood thinners work some magic.

Understand your anxiety doodle. I was the same last year. I’ll not suggest you don’t worry because of course you will. My hope is you’ll find as I did that the worry was unnecessary and all will come right in the end. I’ll be thinking of you both.

Positive thoughts winging their way to your son sued. Those kittens sound to be firmly in charge smile.

Your grandsons surely do keep you on your toes grandmab. I’d not have the energy now although I do miss a bit of child care. Our teenagers seem in perpetual motion these days, I’d love to see them more but do understand it’s just how things are.

I’m a bit down in the dumps generally. A lot of family worry and stress around us, not a thing we can do to ease it for any of them. I’m also very emotional just now. I hope it’s ok to just offload a bit, I know many have bigger worries.

Next Monday it will be 33 years since my Mum died, the day before was Mothering Sunday I’d been with her, took spring flowers to put by her bed. She had been diagnosed with inoperable cancer 9 days before, we’d been told to expect her to live for six months. That night my Dad asked me to go back as she was struggling, as of course was he. The GP came, said not long, we sat all night just waiting with her, she left us early morning. The replication of the dates has quite thrown me this year, it’s a long while ago I know and I feel quite embarrassed it’s upsetting me so much.

It has helped to share here. A bit of reading now and then I’ll settle. Sleep well everyone.

SueDonim Tue 05-Mar-24 23:08:16

Your GS sounds as though he’s making good progress, GMbatty! Children recover amazingly, don’t they?
Glad you’re home safely, Brook.
Oh my goodness, Nannytopsy! That sounds like an expensive problem to solve. 🔑
flowers for thr DVT, Soop. At least you’re onto it now and I hope the pain eases off.
I’m sorry you didn’t outside, Jaxjackie. Maybe tomorrow? 🤞
Also sorry your Dh needs an op, Doodle. I hope it goes well. flowers

Ds1 had a rough weekend after his first treatment last week but perked up yesterday and is feeling a lot better today. It was scary stuff, though, walking into the unknown. I know some of you here have sadly had that experience, too. flowers

My GD lost one of her top front teeth earlier today. Shortly afterwards, she and her wee brother had a fight and the other one came out, too! 🦷 🦷 She now has no teeth whatsoever between her canine teeth. grin

The kittens are still wreaking havoc whenever they can. The new one went to the vet yesterday to be checked over. I also wanted some tips to get her to eat. The vet said we need to be strict with her! 👀 She eats if I hand feed her, mind. hmm I’ve booked the boy in to have his ‘operation’ next week. A surprise litter of kittens is the last thing we need!

That’s all for today, TOYA. Xxx

brook2704 Tue 05-Mar-24 22:21:13

Hoping all goes well Doodle, try not to worry, I know it’s easier said than done but please let us know how he gets on 💐

Grandmabatty Tue 05-Mar-24 20:48:52

Doodle I'm thinking of you and your husband 💐

Doodle Tue 05-Mar-24 20:05:25

Soop sorry to hear of your latest trials and tribulations. I hope the increased blood thinners will solve the problem and relieve the pain. Hope Mr Soops head is getting better.
annsisxty I can understand your concern for your DGS. Autism brings such difficulties in life to some doesn’t it. At least you were there when he needed somewhere. Hope he gets on ok.
Urms thinking of you as always,
My DH is off to hospital Friday, four weeks earlier than planned for his operation due to problems with very swollen legs (although they have improved recently). Trying to get my head round the fact it’s all come about much earlier than I expected.
Can’t help feeling very anxious and worried,
Sending best wishes to all in the Kitchen.

Jaxjacky Tue 05-Mar-24 19:13:36

Hi all, rain nearly all day🙁 scuppered me attempting a very short amble under supervision.
I’m glad it’s been sorted soop nasty a DVT, take care.
👋👋 Feelingmyage good you’re back, enjoy the tennis.
MrJ is at bowls for a couple of hours, I’ve just eaten leftover chicken curry on a jacket, I’ll put the moving pictures on in a minute.

Grandmabatty Tue 05-Mar-24 19:05:46

Good evening Kitcheners. Soop I hope that the DV can be dealt with promptly. Poor you. Grannmarie dgs1 used to love dinosaurs. He's less keen now. Nannytopsy oh no! I might have said harsh words if it had been me. I hope you managed to gain access. Brook it was a lovely day, wasn't it? Feelingmyage enjoy the tennis.
Today was a good day despite dgs2 having pain. He would chase his big brother round my garden. So he didn't want to go out and was a bit grumpy and very sleepy. I put him down early for a nap and he slept for more than two hours. We have a new regime in place for dgs1. He's only allowed one snack after nursery because he wasn't eating his dinner. He was not chuffed at this! Hopefully he'll have eaten better tonight.
I made a Chinese chicken and mushroom curry for dinner and it was delicious. There's enough left for tomorrow too. I will have a quiet night. Take care all.

brook2704 Tue 05-Mar-24 18:25:52

Lovely to hear from you feelingmyage and yes I absolutely agree Inverness airport is so relaxing compared to others - it’s a shame you can’t fly to more destinations from there though, as it’s quite limited
My goodness nannytopsy what a welcome back from your holiday, I hope you eventually got inside and without too much damage being done
Soop hoping the new treatment works its wonders and things are much better soon, take care both of you
I had a lovely morning in the garden pottering about, the sunshine was out and it felt very spring like. This afternoon, my friend messaged asking if I’d like to meet up for a coffee so I’ve been out with her all afternoon catching up on all the news
Chicken pie and veg for dinner later so looking forward to that - no wine, though, I had far too much of the weekend!

Grannmarie Tue 05-Mar-24 18:13:01

Hello 👋 and welcome back, feelingmyage55, enjoy your tennis 🎾 this evening.

Grannmarie Tue 05-Mar-24 18:11:42

Dear Soop, I am so sorry to hear your diagnosis, and that you are in pain. Hoping and praying that increasing the blood thinners brings you some ease. Thinking of you and brave MrSoop. I hope his head is a bit more comfortable now. Hey ho indeed! 💕🙏

Glad to hear young Master Batty is bouncing back, I'm smiling at his big brother trying to negotiate special privileges to suit his advanced age!🤣

Sounds like you had a great time with your Cambridge family, brook, it's so nice to go travelling but there's no place like home.

Blossoming, what beautiful eyes you have, so serene.

Jaxjacky, I hope your knee is improving and not so painful now. It'll take some time to heal.

SueD, hoping and praying that your DS's new treatment brings him some improvement, and isn't too gruelling.

Urms, thinking of you and Himself.

Annsixty, enjoy being chauffeured about by your granddaughter, your personal taxi awaits!

TOYA, especially those with illness, worries or sorrow. Sending much love to Baggs and family. 💕💐 So very sorry to read Harrigran' sad family news on the GM thread, thinking of them. 💕🙏

On Sunday DH and I had a great day out with the Wee Boy and his Mummy and Daddy at a super farm park. They were having a dinosaur themed weekend! Super fun but all go from 11 am till 4 ish, quite tiring but DH got around well on his mobility scooter.

Jacket potatoes and chicken for dinner, I've made chicken noodle soup with the carcass.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Tuesday evening.

Feelingmyage55 Tue 05-Mar-24 13:11:40

Autocorrect NADAL.

Feelingmyage55 Tue 05-Mar-24 13:10:49

Hello after a long absence from posting although I always read. I haven’t been myself since having Covid twice but yesterday was gloriously sunny and I felt my spirits lift.
soop. My best wishes to you both and pleased that your GP seems so proactive on your behalf.
Grandmabatty. Just think how how you can say to GDS1 “now that you are five ……. “😉
annsixty. Your granddaughter truly deserves her new car. Have a nice outing together.
Brook. I do like Inverness airport because it is so small and easy parking.
Oooh I can’t mention you all, no offence meant.
As a treat to myself this evening I shall watch Nagal and Alcaraz playing an exhibition match on the Netflix channel.
Take care all.

soop Tue 05-Mar-24 12:47:57

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

Ultrasound confirms DVT behind my left knee. Leg is swollen and tight-skinned. Pain has been worse in the early hours. GP to contact us this afternoon to discuss increasing blood thinners. Hey ho! As Baggs would say.

We hope to meet her for a catch up later this month.

Group hug and much love as always.
