Hello kitchen people, and especially Soop.
OH and I spent the afternoon at our very local NT property. The new season always starts on Good Friday. There weren’t many flowers but I loved the fritillaries. We ended with a Cream Tea - £5.50 each (up 50 p from last year) which includes two scones, pot of jam, tub of clotted cream and a pot of tea. OH had Earl Grey and I had English Breakfast. Younger son, who is home for the Easter weekend, is cooking us lamb chops for dinner tonight.
This morning I made Delia’s chocolate bread and pudding, which is for Easter Sunday lunch
Have a good evening.

Dear you lovely lot. Have had a much-needed trim at the hair salon. Feeling a little younger. wink

It was, as always, a pleasure to spend time with our Baggs after yesterday's hospital appointment. I have to stop taking the present oestrogen blocker forthwith. Oncologist concerned that it has contributed to the blood clot in my leg. I begin a new course of treatment next week. I shall be taking the prescribed medication until my 86th year. hmm Also had bloods taken. Oncologist (a delightful lady) promised to phone me with the results on Sunday! THANK YOU NHS.

I have a mountain of catching up to do.

I wish you all a pleasant Easter weekend. You deserve a treat or two.

NannyG4 Thu 28-Mar-24 23:08:52

Another dismal day here in Kent forgotten what the sun looks like.

A very quiet Easter here, isolating. We will take off in the car with our flasks and find somewhere quiet, preferably near the sea, to look at..... Simple pleasures......

Thinking of all of you who may be struggling with life's battles... God Bless....

SueDonim Thu 28-Mar-24 23:02:19

Just catching up before Easter weekend is here (although all today I’ve thought it was Friday, not Thursday).
I hope you’re feeling brighter now, Annsixty.
Granmarie, you’ll have to explain skiddling to me! I’m making a guess it means splashing water? 💦 The funeral sounds as though was as peaceful as it could be. flowers
Trains, Blossoming! I love old trains. Hope you’re feeling better now.
I’m so glad your DOH is feeling much better, Neine and a,so that your meeting went well.
Rosie’sMaw my ds1 was born on the Saturday of Easter weekend, 49 years ago! I could see the snow falling outside from the delivery room window. ❄️ It’s his birthday tomorrow. I just pray that we will be able to celebrate many more with him, my darling boy.
How lovely that Baggs and the Soops have seen each other. I hope the hospital appts went well.
Yay, Jaxjackie to the mended knee! That’s been a long haul.
Great that the injection is now working, Yia.
What a carry on to get home, Brook. I hope youre safely back in your own home by now.

Another busy week here, what with grandchildren, the flood stuff and getting ready for Easter. Dd and family are coming over tomorrow. Although it’s Good Friday and fish is traditional, we’re having a roast chicken, with new potatoes and fresh veg. The children will eat that and as dd is doing other things all weekend, it’s our main Easter gathering. I’ve made a lemon and elderflower cake, too, it just needs icing.

I had a phone appt this week with a speech and language therapist about my frightening choking episode back in January. It’s her specialty and she was so helpful and reassuring. I feel as though the whole thing can be put to bed now that I understand what happened, and that it’s very unlikely to reoccur. I Also gained some interesting knowledge. Your vocal cords are about the length of the half moon on your thumb nail. I’d imagined they were about the size of the average elastic band but in fact they’re tiny! She explained that they have four functions - speech, keeping objects out of your airways, coughing and another I’ve forgotten, which is astonishing for such little things.

The weather has been pretty atrocious. Like others we’ve had so much rain and we’ve barely seen the sun, it’s so grey all the time. There are more flowers peeking through in the garden so that’s a plus.

For our Scottish Kitcheners, you might have heard that Perth has a new museum opening on Saturday, the main artefact being the Stone of Scone (or Destiny). It’s garnered good reviews on the BBC and in the UK papers. I shall pay a visit once the initial rush has died down. www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2024/mar/28/perth-museum-review-a-magical-display-of-rampant-unicorns-and-naked-picts

Have an enjoyable Easter everyone. TOYA. Xxx

Nannytopsy Thu 28-Mar-24 18:53:33

Good evening everyone. Hope today has answered questions for soop and it’s good to hear from Baggs.
I didn’t get my Simnel cake made today - tomorrow then! Also DGD’s birthday cake to make.
Beds to make up and stair gates to erect before the family arrive.
Hope you all have a wonderful Easter.

Jaxjacky Thu 28-Mar-24 18:24:29

Have lovely weekends away gillgran, GG13 and Yia.
It’s the company that counts Baggs, how lovely you and the soops can spend time together during a tiresome hospital trip.
I’m hoping brook is well on her way to Inverness.
Looks like the date for chaos (en suite refurb) is the 15th April, two weeks is the estimated time to complete.
It’s been a wet and windy day, DO NOT let me mention drought over the summer months!

Urmstongran Thu 28-Mar-24 16:45:28

Good to hear from you Baggs. Hope you are managing in yourself. My thoughts are often with you.

Thank you for sharing.
You are one very strong brave woman.

I’m starting to feel a bit better, the steroid jab is doing its job for now at least. We will be going to DS2 tomorrow not seen them since early January so will be a nice catch up.My GS2 is 16 today and so grown up.It seems like yesterday I was looking after him 2 days a week.
Hoping you all have a lovely Easter and the weather is kind.

Baggs Thu 28-Mar-24 16:34:25

The soops will now be on their way home. I'm just back at mine. We had to relocate to a local McDonalds for a cheeseburger because the hoped for fish and chips at our usual inn could not be served. The inn's gas boiler needed replaced and so ovens ad to be switched off at 2pm, which is when the soops got there from the appointment. Hey ho. It was a new experience for the both. Happy to help 😁

I'm going to investigate a couple of other places we might try in future though.

It's good having Minibaggs home for a wee while. She helped me haul around some furniture and deal with some serious dust.

Love to all 🦩🦩

brook2704 Thu 28-Mar-24 14:31:35

Hoping all goes well at the hospital today soop and enjoy your meet up with the very special baggs
I’m very pleased to say we’ve now made it out of the mountains down a very slippery and snowy road and we’re now at Geneva airport waiting for the Edinburgh flight. I think we were really lucky to get some seats when I had to rebook yesterday
Have a lovely time at your Norfolk retreat gillgran and enjoy the family time
See you soon GG13 enjoy your holiday
Happy Easter everyone

Ali23 Thu 28-Mar-24 14:13:53

Safe journey soop

I shall be absent for a while, I guess when I return it will be to a new kitchen.

Wishing you a Happy Easter, however you are spending it 🐣🐇🙋‍♀️

gillgran Thu 28-Mar-24 10:37:14

Hope all goes as well as possible today, soop.

brook, safe journey home.

We're off to open up our little home-from-home on the Norfolk coast, our DD & family are joining us there tomorrow.
Fingers crossed that it's not too wet & windy!!

As I don't have internet access there, I'll wish you all a joyful, peaceful Easter.
Warm thoughts for all, especially those with added worries & difficulties. x

Grandmabatty Thu 28-Mar-24 09:52:41

Jaxjacky Thu 28-Mar-24 09:05:39

Safe journey soop with everything done that needs to be done in one trip.

soop Thu 28-Mar-24 08:46:57

RosiesMaw Your cake is a winner.

Another long journey ahead to the Vale of Leven hospital. Upside is, we are meeting Baggs after the consultation.

Take care, dear Kitcheners. flowers

Jaxjacky Wed 27-Mar-24 22:29:17

You deserve your hotel stay Grannmarie I’m pleased the funeral passed smoothly.
My knee is practically back to normal, I’m still very wary and stairs still a challenge, a bath will be the ultimate test, not yet though!

Nannytopsy Wed 27-Mar-24 21:31:39

Looks good Maw. I want to make one tomorrow. Ironing finished!

Blossoming Wed 27-Mar-24 21:03:55

Just a quick visit, nothing much achieved here today. Had a horrible night of stomach pain and bathroom visits so have slept most of the day. It seems to have settled now so Mr B is feeding me chicken and vegetable broth so fingers crossed!

Hope you’re home safe soon Brook.

Lovely cake RosiesMaw .

RosiesMaw Wed 27-Mar-24 20:55:10

Todays achievement.
My Simnel cake - not exactly Mary Berry but I’m quite chuffed with it for a first time!

cornergran Wed 27-Mar-24 20:36:00

Fingers will be crossed here too brook.

Good to hear your friends funeral was as her family wished granmarie. Enjoy your hotel break, you certainly deserve to.

There was the potential for snow in our forecast this evening jax. Surely not, although it would make a change from relentless rain.

It’s been a busy one here today after a far too early start. We’re both weary, time for feet up now. Enjoy the rest of your evening everyone.

Jaxjacky Wed 27-Mar-24 20:12:05

Shouldn’t have mentioned snow should I.
It rained here, for a change - joke, it really is frustrating, our back garden has had no chance to dry out.
A quiet day today, MrJ went to his bowls club lunch, he had cake, poor deprived man!
I sent polite no thank you emails to two of the three plumbers who’d quoted to refurb our en suite, the chosen one is calling in tomorrow morning to finalise dates.
Pretty llfl no gold then?
I’ll be fingers crossed brook.

Grannmarie Wed 27-Mar-24 20:01:12

Hello 👋 Nannytopsy, crossed posts! It's a great feeling when we get to the end of the ironing!

Grannmarie Wed 27-Mar-24 19:59:21

Good evening Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰

Thank you for the super photos, Soop, Blossoming, Brook, Rosie's Maw and Ladyleftfieldlover, they brighten the day!

Hope the Soops, Ann, YiaYia, Grannygravy, Jaxjacky and all with health problems feel a wee bit better soon. Thinking of Urms, NannyG and all concerned about the health of loved ones.
brook, stay safe, hope you get home soon.

Scapa and Grandmabatty, my sister had a lovely view of the Ochils when she lived in Tillicoultry. I'm glad Scapa's dear Mum got home to see them again.

Thank you for your kind wishes yesterday, much appreciated. I am very moved by the support in this special Kitchen. Our dear friend's funeral went as well as these things possibly can, we laughed and cried at the thoughtful, gentle eulogy by the best man at her wedding. The funeral director arranged a live stream for her elder daughter who is completely house bound. He had also visited her at home to discuss the arrangements. She had a friend with her so she was not alone while funeral took place. DH and I were honoured to be invited to take cords at the burial, very humbling and moving. Thankfully it stayed dry until after the funeral tea. Then we drove an hour up the motorway for the hospital visit to our loved one, we're going again tomorrow on our way to our wee hotel break.
Today I took my wheelchair bound friend to Mass and Coffee Morning, last one before the Easter holidays. It was pouring down as we got in and out the car, but she was well clad for the weather and enjoyed the company.
This afternoon I finished the ironing, so now I can pack for tomorrow. Air fryer salmon and rainbow couscous for dinner.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday evening, TOYA.

Nannytopsy Wed 27-Mar-24 19:24:31

Oh I do hope you escape tomorrow brook! For the young people’s sake as much as yours!
I have only 3 more shirts to iron! Onwards and upwards!
thanks soop xx
