On a recent visit to a churchyard I noticed the following on a headstone “He tried to be kind”
Have to say it made me smile.😊

I always like Dorothy parker 'If you can read this you're standing too close'

Though not religious I love the quietness of an old churchyard. I often sit quietly on a bench it’s very peaceful.

I would rather like a bench with a view of the sea or countryside perhaps.
As for what is put on the stone or the bench would leave that up to my family.
On that note this is something which hasn’t been mentioned so perhaps now it’s time it was.

I'd absolutely agree. Despite my previous post, I really don't want to be anywhere near a churchyard. I always wanted to be buried but now I really don't! Scatter my ashes by the sea and remember me that way. My family know all my favourite places.

'She was OK' would suit me nicely (not that I'm having one!)

Time passes but love remains.

I intend to leave directions and the wherewithal to pay for it, that my full name, date of birth and date of death shall be added to my husband's headstone, under his name and dates.

I shall be paying for the stone this spring when the grave has settled and for his inscription and will place a similar amount in my pre-paid funeral plan.

Cast a cold eye
On life, on death
Horseman pass by!

This is the ambiguous epitaph on W B Yeats gravestone in Drumcliff, County Sligo
I've always liked it. My gt grand parents are buried a few stones away.

DH wanted his name added to an old family stone in his favourite churchyard. I tried to ask permission but was told to just do it incase it was refused. I went ahead and it's there. He'd be pleased 😀

I was hoping for a pyramid…🙃

I won’t be having a headstone as I am being burnt, but if I did have one, I would like it to say this.

sharon103 Wed 14-Feb-24 14:20:34

Peace at Last! smile

M0nica Wed 14-Feb-24 15:50:06

I will be happy with name (including maiden name and dates..

DH says if I go first my gravestone will have the word 'Why?' engraved on it because he says it the word I use most.

It is just that I like to know why, I have to do anything, he has to do anything, why things have broken down and so on, and so on.

Mum’s would be ‘are you wearing your vest?’
Mine would be ‘are you stopping for a cuppa?’

Not dead yet!

Sarnia Thu 15-Feb-24 09:51:56

None the bloody wiser!

Spuddy Thu 15-Feb-24 09:56:02

As I don't like heat I want ''It's very hot down here so can someone please open a window?!''

Then I'd like someone dressed as the Grim Reaper standing by my grave and playing Another one bites the dust!

Spuddy Thu 15-Feb-24 09:57:18

HA HA HA! That's a good one! I'm Atheist too!

Redhead56 Thu 15-Feb-24 12:37:59

It would probably be ‘natural redhead and the temper to go with it’ However I have told my family I want a simple cremation no service pomp or ceremony.

grannyactivist Thu 15-Feb-24 12:46:08

“She loved, and was loved.”

At the end of the day that’s all that’s really important to me.

DamaskRose Thu 15-Feb-24 13:11:20

No funeral, cremation, no headstone, ashes scattered in flowing water.

M0nica Thu 15-Feb-24 19:18:58

I used to feel like you DamaskRose, but over the years , as my love of the countryside has become more informed, studying lanscape history and archaeology, the more I want to become part of that landscape. I am hoping I can be buried in the country churchyard whose church I ahve worshipped at for over 30 years. I want a wicker coffin and a tombstone so that i can become part of the lanscape I have studied and love so much.

Are we nearly there yet?

Spetz Fri 23-Feb-24 18:56:16

"If you're reading this, you're standing on me. Stop standing on me, asshole."

Oreo Fri 23-Feb-24 22:05:35

I just asked DP and he said he would like on his, ‘stop staring at me and f… off!’
😂

annodomini Fri 23-Feb-24 22:37:34

Since I won't be there to approve or otherwise, I'll leave it to my family to arrange a suitable inscription.

" Epipens were in my handbag ! "
Friends and family know where my epipens are as I have had numerous anaphylactic shocks. But if I die from anaphylaxis then someone didn't reach them or know where there were.
Not being buried so no headstone required. Ashes to be put in the sea off Irish coast.
