The actual day was a Wed and it was 3rd march

My actual day was 19th November 1975, it was a Friday, a frosty, starry night. 💕 My song was Nat King Cole singing, When I fall in love. DH bought me his greatest hits that first Christmas together.

I had a Saturday job in the Co-op department store boutique and I played the Roberta Flack song over and over again! I drove my colleagues mad!

Francoise Hardy. My French teacher, back in the 60’s, had a soft spot for her and often mentioned her in our French lessons!

She just looks so beautiful, cool, elegant, just so French! And so 60’s.

Yes, i suppose it does.

It certainly does carry a huge importance.

I first heard this song in the late 60s and loved it immediately. Both DDs love it too. It is the first track of a compilation of our favourite songs and their meaning to us which DH has made. Much more poignant now due to his terminal illness.

Around this time I also listened to Françoise Hardy, Tous les Garçon et les Filles de mon âge, Edith Piaf, La Vie en Rose. Happy carefree teenage days when I was an au pair in Bordeaux.

I`ve always loved the Roberta Flack version, but the one that I have is beautifully sung by Edward Woodward, on the Edward Woodward Album.

Love that song, but I can’t listen to it as it makes me cry. A lost love.

Beautiful song. Makes me sad and nostalgic for being young and so in love with my ex husband whom I was devastated to part from. Never been ‘in love’ since! Such is life I suppose.

It's such a beautiful song, it doesn't make me think of romantic love, but the feelings I had when my son was born. He left us three years ago, and sometimes I listen to this song, even though it makes me feel so sad.

As mentioned above, written by wonderful lyricist Ewan MacColl (Dad of Kirsty of,"Fairytale of New York" fame)

I am in agreement with previous posters who prefer Mary Travis, but my favourite version's on,"Songs of Ewen MacColl" sung by Dave Burland, who recorded the album with Tony Capstick and Dick Gaughan.
The track's on Youtube under Dave Burland. and segues into another MacColl song,"Sweet Thames Flow Softly"
Written by a Northern bloke it seems to go best with that voice to me.
Sorry Roberta, I'm glad others enjoy your version but for me you ruined an exquisite sensitive lyric by the constant repetition of,"your face, your face" ad nauseam

Thank you for reminding me of so many lovely songs of the early 1970s. I have some Francoise Hardy records in the loft (along with the record player!), but think I need to get them on a playlist on the computer!

Written by Ewan McCall for Peggy Seeger. A beautiful love song. Brings me to tears remembering my first and only true love. Its says it all.

What memories! I also loved Roberta Flack’s version of ‘Love letters straight from your heart’. I’d forgotten Françoise Hardy! I have that single along with many others from the era somewhere in the garage - must hunt them out!

Although I love Roberta singing it. I do prefer the fuguees version
