Oops! Klutzy Moments?

Have you ever had an awkward moment? I seem to have them frequently. Klutzy moments smile. Today, I went out with my family for a meal (fortunately nowhere too fancy). I chose a steak - well done (perhaps that was the problem). I had difficulty cutting through it and suddenly my hand slipped, knocking against the little pot of sauce that was on the plate. It flew across the table, landing upside down on a pile of menus. The sauce began to ooze out. I lifted the pot, hoping to prevent further catastrophe, but the sauce pooled over the menus. I began to laugh, seeing the funny side of it, but alas nobody joined in. Hubby, daughter and eldest grandson looked mortified. They mumbled something about how it could only happen to me hmm. Only the youngest grandchildren sniggered appreciatively. My daughter, ever efficient, began mopping up the sauce and cleaning off the menus. Hubby rolled his eyes in embarrassment, although nobody in the restaurant seemed to have noticed the incident grin.

This sort of thing happens frequently to me, however careful I try to be. I always laugh it off, but I'm sure I have a bock on me.

Does anyone else have klutzy moments?

My DH is the most klutzy person I know. He fell 20ft off the roof whilst trying to adjust the tv aerial. (Remember Rod Hull)
He came away from that with minor cuts and bruises. So lucky. He’s fallen out of the loft, trips over his own feet, fallen down the stairs from top to bottom, all without serious injury. He is well cushioned though 😄

Yeah me too! I went out once with a beautiful cream dress on. The soy sauce in the restaurant had other ideas. I was covered in it. Hubby (long since EX) said that I always managed to show him up!!! Oh bloody well lighten up!

We were at a lovely pub having lunch one summer, beautiful day but a bluebottle decided it liked me and as was eating I tried to shoo it away with a fork in my hand. The fork flew out of my hand nearly piercing the woman quite a way off at another table. The look she gave me as I profusely apologised. Note to self, while shooing an insect place cutlery on plate if eating!

Oh girls this has given me such a laugh and made me feel less like an anomaly! I put my over the head bag in in my local cafe just last week and knocked the whole coffee I was waiting to take home with me on the table and floor. They were lovely and cleared it up and gave me a new coffee to take home! Cue embarrassment! Then yesterday I flopped a whole jug of warmed milk taking it out of the microwave!! At least we can admit to our failing on here!

Yep my airline salad got knocked into my lap today! Shredded carrots, tomatoes, olives etc all straight down my cream jumper. Totally klutzy!

My mother-in-law has problems eating tidily, she has macular degeneration and the bosom problem!

I bought her a silver chain with two little cat clips on each end from Amazon.
She uses that to secure a normal napkin at neck height.
She also likes to sit with her back to the room if we're out so other people can't see if she spills her food down herself.

My mum had a klutzy moment (one of many) when she was only 18. She was a window dresser and invited to a dinner with staff and management. There were other managers present from large companies. My mum had borrowed a fur coat to attend, as it was a dressy function, and as she stood admiring herself in a mirror at the top of a flight of stairs, she lost her footing and slid down the stairs backwards, head first. Because of the fur coat she slid at high speed, landing in a heap at the foot of the stairs. That was not the end of her embarrassment. Her skirt had ridden up over her waist, showing her stockings and suspenders, and the heel of her shoe had broken. I don't know how she ever lived that down 🫣

I do have some disposable adult bibs, but only use them at home when having spaghetti! They are a godsend 😂

I'll definitely have to look into those 😁

As a teenager I was working as a waitress in a pub. There was a regular legal clientele at lunchtimes, as we were near the local courts and solicitors. I was serving one of the chaps who came in every day and always had a hot meal. A plate of liver and onions in gravy fell off my tray and slid slowly (or so it seemed) down his trouser leg. I left it and ran back into the kitchen, leaving someone else to apologise and clean him up. He didn’t come back for a fortnight and then ordered sandwiches. I was mortified and apologised profusely, and he was lovely about it.

I have a large chest - DD! I’m always spilling food.
But my best story is when we were out with the U3A lunch group. Now, I like things to be straight and level, especially pictures on walls. You can check mine with a spirit level. Anyway, one of the pictures on the wall near me was askew. I straightened it and it fell off the wall. As it fell into the pudding bowl of the man sitting opposite me, it smashed into a million pieces and also broke his wine glass. He was very kind. The waitress replaced the pudding and the wine and took away the broken picture.

I'm not posting mine 🤣🤣🤣

AGAA4, oh my goodness, that's the most embarrassing story yet. It makes mine seem tame by comparison 🤣🫣

Fairycakes Sat 17-Feb-24 14:17:11

MissInterpreted, I suffer the same problem myself, minus the big cleavage 😆. I've actually seen adult bubs online and was actually tempted to buy one 🤭

Check out a condition called Dyspraxia. Used to wrongly be called Clumsy child syndrome.
My son and I are both Dyspraxic, although for us it affects our Executive function more than coordination

Or Calamity Jane as I was named!

And like MissInterpreted I have a very impressive frontage!

I’m forever spilling food down my top… or even into my specs (if they’re hanging round my neck on a chain). Forever paranoid if we’re dressed up for a black tie do… if we’re away for an event, breakfast (stopped having tomatoes 🍅 they always sprayed everywhere) It’ll wear anything to eat and then go and change…

cc Sat 17-Feb-24 13:54:01

I always seem to manage to get sauce on my top, my grandchildren expect it and have a good giggle when it invariably happens. As you can imagine I tend to wear darker tops or patterns.
Incidentally Which.com recommend washing up liquid for stain removal and I've found that it's better than stain removers for anything other than white t-shirts!

I was out in a smart restaurant for dinner. Before the meal arrived I thought I would go to the ladies. The tablecloth was very long and as I stood up it caught on me and everything on the table slid off onto the floor including a bottle of champagne, jug of water and glasses and the lovely little jar of flowers.
My face couldn't have been redder.

luluaugust Sat 17-Feb-24 13:16:43

And me 😂

Oh this thread has made me laugh so much my sides are hurting, just the tonic I needed.

I'm very good at the art of dropping food down myself - and as I've got quite an 'ample bosom', whatever I drop tends to land right down there! grin Klutzes of the world, unite!

I was on a first date many moons ago. We went to a local pub and sat at the only spare table, laden with empty glasses. In a bid to remove my coat, I held onto one sleeve and tried to shrug out my arm. I lost my grip. My arm pinged out and cleared the table, much to the amusement of the rest of the crowd. I, too, saw the funny side, but my date, not so much. He ducked his head beneath the table so nobody would recognise him.
Turned out he was living with someone else...
