One of my GSs who is in his 30s is fond of telling he’s searching for a suitable care home when I have a forgetful moment. We always laugh together about it.

It's true though, whether anyone says it or not.

Fell (after ice skids, for example) or got knocked off my bike multiple times and was fine apart from a bruise or scratch or two. Nowadays I'd break a bone. Never broke anything till I was over 60 in spite of tumbles on rocky hillsides, etc.

Couple of days ago DD2 and I went for a beach walk. We thought we'd climb back up the sea wall on a boat ramp. She did it carefully with trainers on. I tried with hiking boots and immediately slipped even when trying to jam my feet into crevices. Having fractured each wrist and one shoulder in the last seven years, I decided to walk further along the beach till I found some steps.

In an emergency – tide coming in fast – I'd have swarmed up the ramp on my belly and gone green from the algae in the process, but it wasn't an emergency. Worth "being careful at my age" (68) though.

I take mo notice.
I mean, what can they possibly know at their ages?

I was taken aback when a doctor told me that she would not dream of running about after her grandson at the age of 75. She looked about 45 so it set me aback. Surely exercise is good at any age and it beats going to the gym?

I'd rather do the gym, frankly.

Our DD and DS tell us if we have to go in a home they will make sure there's a chiller for our wine!

OMG at what age are your grown children allowed to utter this words ‘ you have to be careful at your age’

One of my adult sons almost said that yesterday, but worded it in a slightly more subtle way.
We were out walking, and seeing so many flooded fields I repeated something that I have been saying for the last 40 years, about how I always long for such areas to freeze so I could skate on them. He tactfully said that "it probably wouldn't get worth the riskq", and very sadly I do agree with him. .

Ours say jokingly be nice, remember we will be choosing your care home 🤣

I keep hoping that my children will realise that I’m in my dotage. They seem to think I’m still 25 and capable of anything!

I don't think my children see me as an old woman....I'm still just 'mum' and expected to be there when they need me, not the other way round.

Just had my 80th birthday but don't really feel old - managed to climb over a five barred gate a few weeks ago. My DS and DIL say they worry about me taking my dogs for long walks on my own and they have a tracker on my 'phone (I have one on theirs as well!) but so far they trust me to look after myself!

I was called a geriatric first- time mother when I had my son at 45. It's been downhill since then especially when he used to be asked if he was travelling with his grandma.

No-one has said this to me yet (I'm 72) but yesterday my daughter rushed over when my husband and I were moving a heavy trunk and took over from me. My husband is 77 and if anything is less fit than me, but I got the special treatment for which I was very grateful!
