Ancient person 😂

I am now nearer 87 than 86 and sometimes wish my family did realise just how ancient I am.
My D who is 58 will ring 2/3 times a week but never asks how I am. I see her a couple of times a year and if she thinks I look older she never remarks on it.
I have recently ( until today actually) had my two youngestGS’s aged 13 and 14 to stay for 7 weeks, due to a family emergency but I was just expected to cope.
I do sometimes feel upset.
However if I do need to go into a care home I shall do the choosing and it will be the most expensive I can find and intend to live there until my money runs out.
Am I joking…….

I have less stamina and no strength in my hands but otherwise I consider myself fit and well at 78. I am lucky to have children and grandchildren around to do any heavy lifting, change light bulbs etc. and they have not yet used the phrase “at your age” though I am sure they think it!
I expect I will follow in my mum’s footsteps and remain healthy apart from arthritis and she lived to 92, only spending seven months in a care home after Dad died. She had a new lease of life there, enjoying the company especially the men! More interesting conversations, she said.

They havent yet.
But I find myself saying it to myself.

My son is the other side of the world and commented on how old Charles and Camilla are but went quiet when I pointed out that we are the same ages. That’s the trouble with kids living abroad and rarely seeing you. It comes as a bit of a shock I’m sure when we do eventually catch up.

I know this is true from living abroad when my parents were in their 60s.

You're only ancient when they discontinue your blood group!

Earlier this morning my 3 and 8 year old DGS were here.
They decided to have an exercise session.
8 year old said “ Be careful Nana, maybe you should sit down and just do your arms”.
Nice to know he cares .😁

I have quite a history of tumbles though I can't rival Baggs's record. My DSs have told me time and again to watch where I put my feet, but haven't added 'at your age', though that's probably what they're thinking.

My feet and my brain have never seem quite co-ordinated at any stage of my life.

DD2 having taken over the Christmas cooking a few years ago announced on Sunday that she felt she would like to take on the Sunday lunch cooking on the odd occasions when we do that now. I am 76 and quite happy for her to do it.

During a family day out at the seaside we approached some stone steps. My DIL grabbed my arm and with her other arm around my shoulders she guided me down said steps! I consider myself to be quite fit for my age (72). I guess actions can speak louder than words!

My best friend at school was calling her parents "The Aged Ps" while we still at school. A reference to something in a Dickens novel? Can't remember.

I had DD3 in my 45th year. When she was at school several of the grandmas of her class peers were younger than me.

Who cares? If people want to think I'm old, that's fine. It doesn't affect how I feel about myself. Surely that's what counts when all's said and done.

We often used to refer to ours as the APs! It came IIRC from Great Expectations on TV - the main character was friends with someone who addressed his ancient senile father as Aged Parent.

We have even been known to write on the envelope of a birthday card ‘To A.P. (male)

I don’t recall any objections. Both APs now long gone alas.

The family haven’t, they wouldn’t dare !We are very aware that we need to be careful not to trip now and avoid ladders 🪜 these days. I think they think we are immortal, they don’t actually make much allowance for us aging.

I was called a geriatric first- time mother when I had my son at 45. It's been downhill since then especially when he used to be asked if he was travelling with his grandma.

My wrist band in the maternity hospital said ‘elderly birth’ when I was 26 in the 70s.

Just over a week ago I was attending a family event and staying near my DS and his family. We all went for a walk in a country park and it was seriously wet and muddy. I'd only taken one pair of shoes with me so was trying to avoid the muddiest bits by waking on the slope at the side of the muddy path. Unfortunately I slipped and fell into said mud. As I sat in the puddle unable to figure out how to get up and feeling the wet puddle seeping through my layers of clothing, my DiL said "Are you OK? Do you think you have broken anything?" I was then hoisted up by two of the youngsters with their hands under my armpits, and waddled along the rest of the walk dripping with mud!
So did I fall over or did I "Have a fall"! I think the former but the latter did cross my mind. I'll be 70 later this year! That sounds quite old to me - a major milestone!
I bent my wrist back as I broke my fall and the next day was aching all over, presumably due to the unceremonious lift from the muddy puddle. Dressing was a bit of a challenge but the pain got less each day and I'm completely recovered now. Driving the 200 miles home was painful as putting the car into reverse or pulling on the handbrake was painful, but I survived. It has made me a bit more wary. I've lost a lot of weight in the last few years and am much fitter than I was before I retired. I walk more and only drove to the country park that day as I didn't want to slow down the youngsters who were walking from the house. I returned in the car sitting on a plastic carrier bag!
They have requested my services to look after the children in the Easter holiday so hopefully they don't see me as too old to cope, though I know my limitations with physical activities with the 3 year old! I think it is my own confidence that has been knocked!

I am sure my son thinks I am ancient (I am 64 and he is 25) especially since dear husband died very suddenly 5 years ago and he saw me fall apart in the months afterwards. He did mention once before if I had considered an old folks' home as I "would have company"! I am still living independently, drive, work part time and look after toddler once a week so am not in my dotage! I look at my son and think he is old for his age - married with a child. At his age I was single and had only just began my career after uni, college, work then back to college before settling on a profession. Mind you, the day after he suggested an old folk's home a leaflet popped through my letterbox advertising an open day at a local residential home. My son swears it was a coincidence...

Only since DH died at 87 have my AC begun to realise that I won't be around for ever. They no longer assume that my stamina is the same as it ever was. I am pretty much okay and have no mobility
problems, but it will come. They are fairly tactful.

i was 50 when my son told me i had to be careful as i was old, at 55 it stepped up with 2 lots of cancer at 57 he put a tracker on my phone and now at 60 i get a nightly text asking if i am okay, usually say yes but sometimes if i want a chat i say no, i find it mostly amusing but i understand as i was widowed at 39 when my son was 16 and a few people said to him, he had to step up and look after me, i was widowed again 2 years ago, he is very loving and caring but i keep telling him to look after his own family, i get a weary look and raised eyebrows and a what do you think i am doing....you are my family....lol.

Never! I would go nuts at them...Im 68 and perfectly capacitated and well!
