I didn’t think dogs were allowed in Waitrose 😳

I was shopping in a large Waitrose today in Henley on Thames. Two men were in the store with a large Alsatian, not a guide dog. One of the Store personnel was talking to them and I assumed there were being told to leave the store, however this didn’t happen.

On looking closer at the chap in the woolly hat I realised it was Russell Brand and another chap who I recognised but can’t name.

No one challenged him, maybe they didn’t dare.

If everybody too their dogs to the supermarket I can imagine chaos in the narrow aisles, it’s bad enough now with trollies and children. Adding dogs on leads would bring the place to a standstill, a very good reason to have groceries delivered.

He looks like a big bundle of fluff
(The dog, I mean)

No not Owen Wilson.

I had seen a photo once recently on some newsfeed of this young man. If I ever see him again I will let you know.

The two of them were just wandering around the shop laughing. They didn’t have a trolley or basket.

I am very nervous of big dogs but this one looked the most approachable of the 3 of them 😀

Next time I am in the store I will raise my concerns.

Sounds as if they were just waiting for someone to challenge them.
Then the abuse would start?

Not Rob Beckett either. Curiouser and curiouser said a character from Alice in wonderland. Please name the character.

Well trained dogs don’t GSM but I’ve seen two do so since lockdown, one in our local pub, up a pillar and one indoors in a garden centre.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 25-Feb-24 09:30:20

Dogs don’t pee indoors nanna.

Could it be Rob Beckett.

It became a thing Greyisnotmycolour, when so many people became first time dog owners and failed to research/train their dog, indeed didn’t see it as a dog but as a fur baby. Add the ‘positive only’ approach, throwing treats at any unacceptable behaviour, thinking every dog has to ‘say hello’ to every human or dog they meet and It’s a perfect storm

Exactly this! So many people now who treat their dogs like some kind of child, novelty or fashion accessory and don't train them properly.

What if several people brought dogs with them ? Dog pee up the aisles ? No, thanks. I would avoid those shops like the plague. I am not talking about well mannered and trained guide dogs of course.

It wouldn’t bother me to see a dog either - but RB is disgusting.

Witzend Sun 25-Feb-24 08:56:51

I hope I’m not the only one who wouldn’t be bothered by seeing a dog in Waitrose. Russell Brand, OTOH - enough to send me scuttling off to Sainsbury’s PDQ.

Dogs in food shops ? Nooooo, what is the world coming to?

Greyisnotmycolour Sat 24-Feb-24 22:25:15

I know so many people with dogs that can't be left. When did this become a thing?

Grannynannywanny Sat 24-Feb-24 22:10:19

As well as a muzzle for RB perhaps he could attend the local vet for a well deserved surgical procedure 🐕

I live on my own. My new-to-me dog is eight and unused to being left in an empty house alone. She stares at the door and after ten minutes (fifteen on a good day) starts to howl to call me back home. Half an hour, and she's a wreck. (I believe a lot of dogs are like this now since Covid and the lock downs.) I have just time to get to the corner shop and grab milk and bread. I certainly wouldn't dream of taking her into a large supermarket so at present I shop on line. Food is displayed at the level of a dog's nose (and worse). Not everyone likes or can cope with strange dogs in a confined space. Especially big ones. It is not acceptable - whatever you are.

There were two men in this case so one could easily have stayed outside. I hope you're writing a letter of complaint to the management NanKate

Not the great actor Toby Jones or Rod Stewart. The friend was early 20s and I know I saw him recently on an advert for a show could be to do with cars.

Owen Wilson (Lightning McQueen, Cars)?

Although he's getting on a bit now

Callistemon21 Sat 24-Feb-24 21:27:21

Toby Jones ?
though i'd hope he'd have better sense than to be fraternising with RB.

Now then, now then.
We love Toby Jones!

MissAdventure Sat 24-Feb-24 21:16:11

That's the very fellow.

The only person I can think of who is small and blond with an odd shaped head is the lead singer of the Communards, years ago.

Was he singing, as he went around Waitrose?

Jimmy Somerville? Loved The Communards in my late teens (still do!). Amazing band. Was amazing listening to Richard Coles playing the piano on Sorry I Haven't A Clue a few weeks ago.

LF is not short, nor in his 20s.
i probably wouldn't know any such in that age range.
don't think dogs should be anywhere that food is served or sold.

AskAlice Sat 24-Feb-24 21:05:11

It wasn't Laurence Fox, was it? Ugh!!!
