Perhaps Patti is a secret GN member, has been reading all the threads concerning de-cluttering, and is making a start with her old paperwork and correspondence.

Hers are just a bit more collectible than any of ours.

Like TinSoldier I realised that copyright is involved here, I do not even know whether she legally can sell the letters without the writers' or their heirs' permission.

Like most of you, I find it in extremely bad taste to sell letters of this sort, although I would have had no issue with her leaving them in her will to a museum or library. An institution would be aware of the legality of displaying these letters or allowing them used for research in the lifetime of those involved.

Clapton's letters are beautifully written and the handwriting rather intriguing. Lovely to read them.

It's a murky world TinSolier. I found :- it definitely would be a breach of copyright for a friend to publish the letters that you had sent him or her, and you could seek an injunction to prevent such publication, or damages if the publication had already taken place. The friend would have a defence, however, if he or she could prove that you had given 'licence' (permission). Such permission may be explicit or implied.

Clapton may have agreed but how about George's wife and son, how on earth would they feel about this? I suppose if she is absolutely desperate for money that may excuse it but otherwise why on earth would anyone sell such private things.

I think it shows her in a very bad light.

To me the letters were written to a person, and should remain with that person. If she has no one or doesn't want to pass them on to family then she should destroy them, even give them back to the authors.

It was a long time ago and I’m sure reading them brings a lot of emotions. They are hers to do with what she likes. It seems like all the rock stars are auctioning off a lot of their stuff they kept over the years to the highest bidder. But I would agree love letters should not be a part of it. I would rather burn them then sell them for money.

Wow, some not very nice comments on here about a woman who is our contemporary! I’ve read Pattie’s biography (I think it was the first one) and I think she was treated very badly by both George and Eric. I thought she came across well, and seemed quite self-effacing.

I didn’t like her at the time because I loved George, but looking back I think she was beautiful, and very much of the time. Yes her sisters were also beautiful but she had that something that made her standout. I think she has aged as well as any of us can, she seems like a lovely person, and if she wants to sell her letters well good luck to her. They’re hers after all, and she deserves to take back a bit of power from those relationships and times when women were often just adjuncts to men.

Not my circus, not my monkeys. but would never publish anything, not only love letters, meant for my eyes only.

The men from same era seem to have weathered better.Most of them anyway.🤔

Does anyone know if her biography is "Wonderful Today" or "Wonderful Tonight?" ...... They have both on amazon.

Why is it that so many famous people seem to auction off old memorabilia or, as in this case, letters? Do they need the cash or is it just to bring attention to themselves? They must think rather highly of themselves and their associations! I can understand if it’s done for charity, as sometimes happens, but I don’t think that’s the case here. I don’t know who’d want to buy these letters other than die hard fans or collectors of music memorabilia. Or dealers out to fleece someone someday! Personally I can’t see what the fuss is about, not being a particular fan. I do think it’s in poor taste but there again it’s not often that the famous (and rich!) ever show much of that, is it?

Going to argue with you Kate.

We've seen Eric Clapton twice and he was brilliant both times.

I've seen Eric many times, at Knebworth, the Birmingham Arena and the Royal Albert Hall every year for at least 10 years, sometimes twice in a week. He is incredible musician, all my kids were brought up listening to him and they are all fans. My daughter who is called Leila had this as her wedding song as she walked down the aisle.

PS she wasn't named after the song but after a Palestinian hijacker.

Have either of them ever said it was Pattie Boyd they wrote those songs about? Or do we only have Her word for that?
