Good news that Catherine is being seen again since her operation with a lovely family photo taken last week for Mother’s Day. Yes it’s the DM.

How strange that most of us manage to take really good snaps of family groups on our phones.

Either release a photo that might not be perfect but is a true image or leave it to the professionals.

Well the Princess of Wales has apologised and admitted that like many amateur photographers she enhanced the photographs. What will happen now - will she be forgiven or banished to the Tower?

She doesn’t seem to have enhanced them very well then!

One wonders what the original was like?

She probably won’t let William loose with the camera again.

Which I suppose is why dealing with the press is best left to professionals. Much ado about nothing.

Yes, but most of us wouldn't have our most intimate details splashed all over the media for weeks to come.

It has been announced that the Princess of Wales has had abdominal surgery, is recovering well and will resume public engagements following Easter. Sufficient information.

Statement from Kate just now:

Catherine has now apologised for any confusion over the Mother’s Day photo.

Has experimented with editing photos as an amateur photographer apparently.

And that’s it.

🤷‍♀️

One does wonder if they had been better off to say what was wrong with Catherine - just as the King has done. Cancer - won’t be around for a while - everyone accepts it -wishes him well - and speculation is zero.

I agree with this. It’s all very well talking about privacy and so on, but this all seems to have escalated alarmingly.

There was always speculation whether the late Queen Mother had a colostomy bag in her later years. No idea if she did or not, and can well understand how 50 or so years ago you just didn’t discuss stuff like that, but times have changed and everything is much more open now.

Most of us would tell our friends what operation we had if we had undergone one. I know we are just the public, but it would have caused much less fuss if this had been explained simply and earlier.

How are Catherine and Charles supposed to recover when all this fuss is being cooked up by the media and the public?

The photo is dishonest. We deserve better. If they don’t want to reveal any details of Kate’s illness that’s fair enough but don’t take us for fools.

Just to add to the sorry mess, George’s third finger appears to have been lopped and the paintwork on those windows is really sloppy - haven’t they heard of masking tape?

It’s ironic that this photo was specifically taken to quell the inevitable media speculation about Catherine and her health, but has now raised even more questions.

It will be interesting to see what the response from the Palace is.

Always the way!
I guess if no photo at all of Catherine had been shown then suspicions would have escalated?

25Avalon Mon 11-Mar-24 09:24:39

First I’ve heard of this so looked at DM and it appears there were other ‘faults’. Interestingly these were picked up by eagle eyed members of the public who scoured the photo for any faults or photoshopping. The press, not just AP, have subsequently withdrawn but do not say it is a fake. Speculation will however now abound and conspiracy theorists will now have a field day and Catherine’s health is being questioned.

Why on earth have Kensington Palace done this is the big question. It is a massive mistake. People were bound to scrutinise the photos and once pointed out to the less suspecting of us are quite obvious and there are quite a few of them. I just can’t see how there were so many ‘mistakes’ to rectify and why not photoshop in some rings on Catherine’s hands while you were at it? Now some are speculating that the marriage is in trouble. If the photo was taken to ease speculation it has had the opposite effect and fueled it. She is going to have to be seen in person, preferably with William to undo the harm.

I think that it was a mistake for William to reduce his engagements like he did, really.

I just heard on the BBC News that he was ‘caring for his wife’, which I suppose in his way he was, but he wasn’t doing it all single-handed like many husbands in a similar situation would have to.

Cooking meals, housework, school runs, actually ‘looking after’ his wife, he would have huge support in all that.

So his time off did seem slightly self indulgent.

Cabowich Mon 11-Mar-24 09:14:15

Whoever edited the photo has just played right into the conspiracy-theorists' hands.

The Palace, if they insist on mucking about with photos like this, should just employ a much better photo-editor. Simples.

merlotgran Mon 11-Mar-24 09:12:41

A Tale of Two Royals:

One gives details of his illness with reassuring comments and glimpses of him taking on as much as he can. His wife, in the meantime, takes on extra engagements.

The other one releases the briefest of details that were always going to lead to wild speculation the longer it went on. Even a happy family photo is not all it seems.
Her husband, in the meantime, takes on fewer engagements and behaves rather oddly.

I respect their desire to keep Kate’s health issues private but as my granny used to say, ‘The truth will out!’

OurKid1 Mon 11-Mar-24 09:11:38

I am not in any shape or form a conspiracy theorist. I think this photograph was produced in an attempt to stop the media speculating about the future of the RF, now that two of them are out of action. It's a pity the Wales's felt the need to do that, but having done so they should have made sure it looked right. Instead it's just made things worse. They should have done as the late Queen would have done - say and do nothing. Catherine was planning on reappearing at Easter - that should have been sufficient, but in our media hungry times it seems it's not. Sadly.

lemsip Mon 11-Mar-24 09:09:19

there's a NEW thread .

since the photo has been withdrawn by major press outlets.

Sago Mon 11-Mar-24 08:54:47

The conspiracy theorists are going to love this.

Apparently the tree in the background is in leaf to a greater extent than it would be in early March. So the speculation is that this photo was taken at a different time of year. I don’t care either way but I’m fed up of being lied to by government and is the RF now also treating us like idiots?

This is more or less what I said on another thread, which I've now deleted. I mentioned the tree, which I wasn't absolutely sure about, but I've now noticed that there's something unnatural about the whole photo. Catherine's head looks as if it's been photoshopped on. I think the issue of Charlotte's hand, whether it's been changed or not, is irrelevant. I can't imagine anyone objecting to that. It just doesn't look 'real' to me - the whole photo. I am usually a great fan of the Wales's, but I'm just not sure about this photo.

Lilypops Mon 11-Mar-24 08:42:37

I wish the press would stop calling her Kate Middleton. She is Catherine Princess of Wales. That’s her title now ,

Harris27 Mon 11-Mar-24 08:40:53

Lovely photo.

Bea65 Mon 11-Mar-24 08:33:18

Initially I thought what a lovely smiley photo.. now it’s reported four obscure points blurry not in focus Kate’s right hand and of course no rings .. not sure what to make of it…
