Good grief! There's so much over-analysis and various "experts" giving opinions you would think that someone had revealed that they had conclusive proof that the Mona Lisa was faked.
It just seems to be the ONLY story at the moment - and I'm tired of it!

Sorry I’ve not been clear In her position I’d have expected someone else to have taken the “hit” for the photo mistake after all she’s been through someone could have stepped up.

It seems Catherine is upset at the speculation surrounding that mistake . She should have been protected from that very speculation.

The publication of the photo was meant to stop the ongoing and intrusive speculation. It wouldn’t have worked even if it hadn’t been edited.
Yes, someone could have advised her against offering it, which she did to try and quell speculation.

How would you protect her from the constant speculation, whether we refer to the photo or her health?
Tell her not to read magazines, watch the news, and try not to think about all those talking about her behind her back?
I have no idea what else could be done apart from asking the media, newspapers, online news, TV, and social media to stop speculating and publishing the speculation.
Who has an idea that would work?

What support would the media and the GBP accept, except for getting every little personal detail that they think they have a right to know?
If they said that Catherine, or the Princess of Wales thanks people for their concern but wishes the details of her operation and her recovery to remain private, would the media and the great British public accept that?
They ought to, but I doubt it.

Where is the polite, considerate silence from all those intrusively questioning her right to privacy?

Where is the silence from all those intrusively speculating about what is actually a very private matter for the Princess of Wales?

Catherine is recovering from major surgery some of us have been there so know just how long that takes. I’m just very sorry that she has been the subject of speculation when she is probably feeling quite low in herself.

Where is the support for her from those that are looking out for her. The silence from that quarter is deafening.

Definitely a target but not a victim, piers Morgan is now
defending the Sussex’s and attacking Catherine

Oh, he's a turn coat! He was vile about Meghan.
Appalling man.

Catherine is just another target, another victim, of the media frenzy of these tabloids that thrive and survive on gossip and speculation, with a dedicated readership.

Of course. The media have the unwritten contract on what to report on the royals, and undoubtedly know exactly what is going on. So, in order to ‘thrive’ ( i.e. sell papers or attract viewers), they report what people are saying online, all the while prefacing the stuff with the fact that it’s from the internet.

I think that some sections of the Press have had a tradition of picking on the younger female members of the RF. I remember when it was Princess Anne, then of course it was Diana. Gossip pushes up sales.

It was Catherine at one time.
Remember Waity Katie?

The press and media are bullies and they like a victim.

Young females - be they members of the RF, celebrities, elected representatives, or engaged in sport - have always been targets for some sections of the media, I think.

It's open to debate, but I believe this particular section of the media will frequently exploit and capitalise on the 'rise' and popularity of a chosen woman who is currently high-profile, and then enthusiastically report on her gradual and sometimes inevitable downfall. Of course, these 'targets' sometimes court the very media that is going to delight in her rise and fall.

The worst thing is that said media's reportage is done in a seemingly innocuous way, as if it is just an impartial observer, but this is IMO simply a devious tactic that allows them to take full advantage of the woman's vulnerability (and, sometimes, stupidity it has to be said).

I wish women would realise that certain media is male-centric and misogynistic and that very few women will be celebrated for their achievements, only their appearance. Why else are celebrities, like Dame Helen Mirren, portrayed under the caption "she's still got it"? If she hadn't (still 'got it'), her accomplishments would go completely unnoticed.

Catherine is just another target, another victim, of the media frenzy of these tabloids that thrive and survive on gossip and speculation, with a dedicated readership.

What difference if William had said he did the editing?

... it might stop some from theorising? grin

OTOH, it could also have prompted more questions. I think it's a case of damned if he did and damned because he didn't. In other words, he can't win either way.

Callistemon21 Sat 16-Mar-24 22:55:22

I think she's quite well-behaved usually.
She was just miffed at being left out of the photo.
And not even photoshopped in 😯

Joseann Sat 16-Mar-24 22:51:47

Nah, it was too busy competing at Crufts with the real Catherine. (But its behaviour didn't impress the judges).

At last - the real photo!

Oh no! Surely the dog should have seen them off? 😯

Joseann Sat 16-Mar-24 22:36:39

That's funny! grin

I don't think Catherine will be seen until 3 weeks after Easter anyway. She's hardly going to show up on engagements while the kids are on school holidays.

As far as I am concerned we have a right to know the snap was 'edited' - but not the reason why Catherine was not wearing her rings, nor any intimate details of her medical status. The curiosity of some is quite medieval.
Exactly.

So why didn't William just apologise and say, "Sorry I take such rubbish photos that Catherine has to edit them?"

Well he could have done that, or said something similar. But for some that would not have stopped further speculation.

I guess it's going to be one of those events which maybe many of us experience at some time or other, where we look back and wish we'd dealt with them differently. With the benefit of hind-sight we know what we should have said, or done - but didn't.

I think the matter of the doctored photo' is separate from the issue of Catherine's medical status but unfortunately one has now impinged on the other, and now there are even more cries of "we have a right to know".

Anniebach Sat 16-Mar-24 19:04:17

Pressured by whom ? why pressured, why not discussed and made a decision?

Joseann Sat 16-Mar-24 18:55:35

So why didn't William just apologise and say, "Sorry I take such rubbish photos that Catherine has to edit them?"

Mollygo Sat 16-Mar-24 18:50:12

So you don’t think Catherine was pressured into posting a photo in the hope that it would stave off the intrusive questions and speculation, or that she then felt pressured into offering an apology for the said photo?

Anniebach Sat 16-Mar-24 15:17:30

Mollygo, when it comes to their family I doubt if William and Catherine can be forced into anything, William said nothing
of his absence from the memorial service.
