Good grief! There's so much over-analysis and various "experts" giving opinions you would think that someone had revealed that they had conclusive proof that the Mona Lisa was faked.
It just seems to be the ONLY story at the moment - and I'm tired of it!

I feel very sorry for the fuss! This was a lovely family sna taken by family. I suspect the photo was not specifically taken for release.

I think that some sections of the Press have had a tradition of picking on the younger female members of the RF. I remember when it was Princess Anne, then of course it was Diana. Gossip pushes up sales.

It was Catherine at one time.
Remember Waity Katie?

The press and media are bullies and they like a victim.

"It's hardly publishing photographs of war zones or a huge seismic event.

Woman who is recovering from surgery feels pressurised to respond to demands from the insatiable public to see for themselves that she is bouncing back." (Callistemon)

But Kate is our future Queen, maybe before much time has passed . This is not just News of the World type gossip about an obscure member of the public. The fuss is not about just anyone or any photo doctoring. The principle of genuine sources of information applies to everyone but becomes important when it applies to an important personage such as Kate.

Sarah was the Duchess of pork, the press didn’t pick on Diana
she sadly thought she could control it by giving them info,
Catherine and William do not even allow photographers near the children. Arthur Edwards said William when a child hated the press they turned up so often,

Quite right Anniebach! What a person looks like should not be a matter for rudeness from any newspaper.

I agree

So why do some people seem to think they must see Catherine right now?

The press, media ,some of the public want drama, Catherine doesn’t give them drama

She’s already apologised for the error.
I know current thinking is not to accept apologies, but really the error here is the insatiable intrusiveness of the press and the media over something that should have been allowed to remain private.

It is good for us, the public, that journalists in the free world refuse to publish doctored photographs.

It's hardly publishing photographs of war zones or a huge seismic event.

Woman who is recovering from surgery feels pressurised to respond to demands from the insatiable public to see for themselves that she is bouncing back.

As I said, the sky will not fall in if she takes a few months off to recuperate in peace and privacy.

As I said previously, I think she was taking steroids for some ‘ abdominal issue’, maybe post op also, and felt pressured into releasing a picture she had Photoshopped to stop the mad speculation. I’m sure when the ‘ moon face’ goes she will reappear.
( And, yes, I know I’ve just done my own bit of speculation!)

Caleo Thu 14-Mar-24 11:29:38

Mollygo and Daddima, I agree with each of you. My intention was to say it was a matter of press ethics, which is important, not Kate's state of health or her skill at photoshopping.

Galaxy Thu 14-Mar-24 15:14:38

It's also a matter of truth and that simply repeating the facts is somehow classed as hysteria. I have seen that game before and it's not fun.

Anniebach Thu 14-Mar-24 15:56:23

George Galloway has a right to know where Princess Kate is ,
he should be advised she is Catherine Princess of Wales not
Princess Kate, and surely commenting on her tight jeans is yuck

Galaxy Thu 14-Mar-24 20:06:05

Well George Galloway is an antisemitic misogynist but that's a different thread.

Anniebach Thu 14-Mar-24 20:13:29

What he is saying has much to do with thread

Watched The Last Leg and there was an excellent spoof by two young men who apparently got an interview with a US programme. They showed how they had photoshopped the image. E.g. That Paddington was in the window behind and that the sandwich he was eating wasn’t marmalade, but a crayfish salad, so it mustn’t be a true photo.
I’ve also read that Catherine was forced to apologise. Forced? What a lovely way for people treat a woman who has been ill.

Anniebach Sat 16-Mar-24 13:25:27

Forced by whom?

Mollygo Sat 16-Mar-24 14:53:50

No idea Anniebach.
It was just something I read on the media, (not the DM) though when you think of all the posts on here and elsewhere, it does seem as if she felt forced, compelled, obliged etc. to apologise for, retract, withdraw, explain her photo, alongside all the intrusive questioning about her health.

Anniebach Sat 16-Mar-24 15:17:30

Mollygo, when it comes to their family I doubt if William and Catherine can be forced into anything, William said nothing
of his absence from the memorial service.

Mollygo Sat 16-Mar-24 18:50:12

So you don’t think Catherine was pressured into posting a photo in the hope that it would stave off the intrusive questions and speculation, or that she then felt pressured into offering an apology for the said photo?

Joseann Sat 16-Mar-24 18:55:35

So why didn't William just apologise and say, "Sorry I take such rubbish photos that Catherine has to edit them?"

Anniebach Sat 16-Mar-24 19:04:17

Pressured by whom ? why pressured, why not discussed and made a decision?

Dickens Sat 16-Mar-24 19:41:15

Well he could have done that, or said something similar. But for some that would not have stopped further speculation.

I guess it's going to be one of those events which maybe many of us experience at some time or other, where we look back and wish we'd dealt with them differently. With the benefit of hind-sight we know what we should have said, or done - but didn't.

I think the matter of the doctored photo' is separate from the issue of Catherine's medical status but unfortunately one has now impinged on the other, and now there are even more cries of "we have a right to know".

As far as I am concerned we have a right to know the snap was 'edited' - but not the reason why Catherine was not wearing her rings, nor any intimate details of her medical status. The curiosity of some is quite medieval.

Anniebach Sat 16-Mar-24 19:46:09

What difference if William had said he did the editing?

Exactly.
