Ridiculous mistakes !

Many years ago I went to stay with a friend who was terrified of insects. A huge dragonfly like creature got trapped in the backcombing of her hair. She was screaming and having a panic attack. Her husband had to hold her in a bear hug while I fished the insect thing out of her hair.

Another time I went to work as deputy librarian with a boss who was reputed to be a bit of a dragon lady. She was terrified of insects and I had to go into the basement and make sure all the spiders were removed before she would enter it.

She said I had a lot of nerve and recommended me for promotion after 6 months.

I find odd creatures too when I don't have my glasses on and they sometimes turn out to be bits of fluff, leaves or twigs.

Sadly, others do turn out to be half a mouse, ( I did not see that one, I stepped on it in my bare feet!) or a tom-tit that one of the cats has brought in.

One evening I picked up a ball in the garden, which belonged to our dog, only to find it was a rolled up hedgehog. I don't know who was more shocked, me or the hedgehog. It didn't even open it's spikes so I put it safely back in the garden borders. I bought a hedgehog house and ensured it was well hidden in the undergrowth. I used to put small amounts of dog food and water out and it always ate it. I saw it for a couple of years after that but when I saw that the food was no longer being eaten during the summer months I thought it may have died so stopped putting food out. I named it Tiggy.

Cycling in in the Dutch countryside my friend and I stopped to admire a house with a lovely garden and a pond. There were some ducks on it and we were admiring them as well and my friend threw them the crust of her sandwich but we then recused they were plastic ducks

My brother in law was once told off by his mum as he attempted to kill a big spider indoors. She picked it up, went onto her balcony & threw over the rail - they lived on the 6th floor😱

That reminds me of a time many years ago when my mum - not elderly at that time - was taking a trip with us on our narrowboat. She had been happily throwing bread to a 'duck' until we pointed put to her that it was an empty bottle bobbing up and down in the water.

My ex came to see me, to find out if I needed shopping.

I was feeling really unwell and shaky, and dropped one of my pills.

He was all flustered because I was upset, so scrambled around under the table, went and got me a glass of water.

He told me to hold put my hand as he had found my pill.

When he put it into my hand it was a piece of grated cheese.

If your eyesight is so bad should you actually be driving 🙃

I went into the bathroom and saw a black beetle in the bath. Thinking this ridiculously huge item must be plastic, and one of my dear Dad's little 'jokes' I tried to pick it up - and it wriggled and ran. My screams alerted several neighbours. I can laugh about it now, sixty odd years later. OH has been known to spend ages helping tiny creatures out from the utility room into the garden, and my dear friend fell into a pond at a garden centre while trying to rescue a dragonfly that she thought was drowning. It wasn't.

My husband once stopped on a country lane to let the ‘ducks’ cross. It was dried leaves 🍂, I had trouble controlling myself 🤣🤣

Totally agree. Should you be driving at night?

Things on the side of the road at night can be optical illusions, so you can’t always fault your cataracts for misseeing. Nor the fluff on the carpet.

I’ve done that myself - ready to do a catch and release for a crawly creature only to find out it is a dark feather.

I’ve had both cataracts removed and now have glaucoma. Your cataracts will only get worse! You may be facing surgical removal -which is a piece of cake.

My advice - TAKE. CARE. OF. YOUR. EYES!

My MIL went to Canada and was amazed at the enormous swans floating on the lake. She sent us photos and on close up we saw they were pedalos shaped like swans!

My ex went and tidied up, weeded, and repainted his mums grave plot (?)
The headstone was away, as it hadn't had his mums name added on it yet.

After a couple of hours, he phoned his nephew to complain that the headstone still hadn't been put in place.

His nephew asked him to pan around with his phone, then explained that nans stone had been put back, on her grave, which was in the next row.

Friend invited a group for coffee. One lady asked to use the bathroom but came scurrying back upset because the tortoise had been eying her up.
It was made of stone!

I try and be kind but I hate spiders!

I'm petrified of the blighters!

I picked off what looked like a piece of black fluff from the shower door and it felt hard. Turned out to be a tiny black ladybird. Then I found two more in the windowsill.
They must be waking up.

Are you sure they are not carpet beetles? Last summer we kept finding these on window sills in our house and after close examination and identifying them online, discovered they were carpet beetles. very tiny and black with slight markings. We have found some again this year and have been vacuuming like mad all the cracks and crevices because they can cause a lot of damage.

Oh, I hope not! They were only in the ensuite (no carpet) but I will check, thank you for the tip.

My thoughts were exactly the same - as I still have some carpet beetles emerging, after great effort to get rid of them last year.

I popped outside to the bin, minus my specs, and saw what I thought was a large leaf. It was a dead rat. I won't do that again.

My mum hobbled out to hang some washing on her line, wearing my dad's old anorak, and his old slippers.

The door slammed shut and she couldn't get back in.

So she ended up hobbling round to mine, but realised after the long walk, that I was working a 12.5 hour shift.

I came home at almost 11pm to find her sitting on my doorstep.
