But keeping to "little things" ..
1. A Krups kitchen scales, on my kitchen window.
2. A plastic round bright red screw knob taking pride of place on my bedroom chest.
3. A worn black photo album from the 1930's, safely tucked away.
4. Winnie the Pooh stuffed bear, with my son's school tag name sewed into his red jumper, on display in my bedroom
5. My theatre programmes - some signed, some in frames in my living room walls.
1. My paternal grandmother lived in cottage with dirt floors in rural Ireland. She won the scales in a newspaper competition for recipes in the 1960's and was hugely proud of it.
2. My fiance had this, called it (as lads in their 20's are wont to do) his big red nob, and it would be used on the gearstick of the cars he drove. He was killed on a motorbike aged 25, I was 23.
3. Belonged to my paternal aunt who died in 1943 of measles, aged 23; it's full of tiny black and white photos of her friends with her writing in silver pen.
4. My son would tuck this under his chin at night, I can picture it still.
5. It struck me that all of the above were treasured items of other people, and I feel I'm the caretaker of them. Of my own treasured items, I love my collection of theatre programmes and will often take them out and flick through - many times I had my best friend Sue with me at these shows. She died in 2021 aged 62, I hadn't seen her since the last show we went to in the Summer of 2019 due to Covid. I miss her so much.
