Just a lighthearted thread but apart from adorable bitzer mutts, what are you 3 favourite breeds of dog?
I like Border collies, malamutes and golden retrievers/labradors ( equally) . I actually like most dogs but they are all just excessively gorgeous.

Did you see nanna that an Australian Shepherd was the overall Crufts winner this year?

Marmin Sun 24-Mar-24 09:05:40

Whippet, welsh terrier and Staffy.

merlotgran Sun 24-Mar-24 09:13:35

Golden Retriever.
Jack Russell.
Rhodesian Ridgeback.

Iam64 Sun 24-Mar-24 09:14:13

Spaniels, labrador retrievers, German shepherds

Dee1012 Sun 24-Mar-24 09:20:35

Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Jack Russells... although my general rule is all dog's are just wonderful!

That's not fair. Like asking us to choose your favourite child!
(But I don't like chihuahuas)

Border terriers, working cockers, miniature poodle (but not with a silly clip)

I like a dog that's independent, intelligent, active and trainable but not too big

No contest for me, and the breed has been mentioned twice and a half here already!!
I also like Weimaraners and Dalmatians.

shysal Sun 24-Mar-24 10:22:28

Gordon Setter, Vizsla, Cavalier and many more!

Joseann Sun 24-Mar-24 10:24:26

Ooo yes, Vizslars.

Casdon Sun 24-Mar-24 10:28:05

Cocker spaniel, poodle, Welsh terrier - but I love them all.

Anniebach Sun 24-Mar-24 10:29:37

West Highland White Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier (no ribbons, they are terriers), Cavalier Spaniels.

I’d have to include Flatcoat Retrievers since friends had two. Such lovely, affectionate, good-natured dogs - they do need loadsof exercise though!

Callistemon21 Sun 24-Mar-24 10:39:48

Anniebach

West Highland White Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier (no ribbons, they are terriers), Cavalier Spaniels.

Spaniels, retrievers (although both breeds love mud and have minds of their own sometimes).
I'd never have said Yorkshire Terriers, Anniebach but, having inherited one, he was the best dog ever! Brave, feisty and could run for miles.

I'm not so keen on smooth haired, bony dogs like whippets etc but I'm sure they can be lovely pets.

We once had a dingo crossed with who knows what. He was a gorgeous boy, loyal and spirited. People used to stop and stare at him because they thought he was purebred. We got him from the RSPCA as a rescue. He didn’t bark and he was always climbing things which I suppose was the dingo in him. Missed him terribly when he died.

Whippets, Italian greyhound, saluki... all so graceful

kittylester Sun 24-Mar-24 11:07:57

Bassetts, miniature schnauzers black labs.

Oldbat1 Sun 24-Mar-24 11:18:26

Sighthounds of any description.

tickingbird Sun 24-Mar-24 11:19:39

Rottweiler, Boxer, Bulldog

lixy Sun 24-Mar-24 11:49:36

Jack Russell - for their b* mindedness
Rough coat golden retriever - so gentle and loyal
Saluki - amazingly graceful but with a wilful mind of their own

However if I ever have another dog it will need to be a poodle or schnauzer as DD is highly allergic to furry things.

Juliet27 Sun 24-Mar-24 11:54:30

Do dingo crosses happen often nanna ?

Urmstongran Sun 24-Mar-24 12:03:36

Joseann

Ooo yes, Vizslars.

My sister who lives in Spain has recently been adopted by one of these dogs. He was a stray. She is besotted. He is only a year old. Took him to the vet, registered and chipped now. Apparently they are known as ‘velcro’ as they stick close by their owners and are very loyal.

My favourite dogs are roan cocker spaniels (no docked tails, thank you). We’ve had 3 of them over the years. So that’s my best 3! Soft mouths, gentle dogs, completely loving. None of them ever got twitchy on Bonfire Night so that was another plus in their favour.

cornergran Sun 24-Mar-24 12:04:46

Lhasa Apso, miniature schnauzer and standard poodles. Allfor different reasons although I’d love any dog except a pug, can’t take to them.

meddijess Sun 24-Mar-24 12:06:00

German shepherds all the way

Recently - pugs - I just love the way they walk!
