3 Favourite Dog Breeds

I'm asthmatic and can't have a furry dog but I adore these breeds:
Labrador/Retriever
Staffordshire Bull Terrier

I'm hoping to get a hypoallergenic dog one day:
West Highland Terrier
Lhasa Apso
Schnauzer (smaller type)
This week I met a most beautiful and friendly dog called Stanley, a Norfolk Terrier. He had the most beautiful expression - I think I'm in love!

Cavalier
Westie
Golden retriever

Newfoundland. This is number one fave we have a seven yr old newfie

Doberman.
Got to love a big dog. None of the little ankle biters for me

I like the big dogs,too. We can’t have a dog here anymore because our property only has wire farm fences and they fine you heavily here if your dog gets out. Gone are the days when our dogs could take themselves off for a walk on the tracks and live happily and freely. One of them actually saved my daughter’s life by herding her away from a deep pool. Wouldn’t happen now, not allowed.

This week I met a most beautiful and friendly dog called Stanley, a Norfolk Terrier. He had the most beautiful expression - I think I'm in love!

I’ve never forgotten a Norfolk Terrier that played with my first dog ( a cocker spaniel). I must have been very taken with it to remember it for nearly fifty years! There are , I believe, Norfolk and Norwich Terriers. One has floppy ears and the other has stick up ears but I can never remember which one is which!

We always had mongrols when I was a child, so I still have a fondness for them, altho these days they are usually referred to as “crossbreeds” and given posh names like cavapoo, cavoodle, , groodle etc and cost a fortune! If I had to choose a pure breed, it would be a border collie, German shepherd or a lab/retriever, but like many others, I think they are all adorable.

Pomeranian, cavaliers and chihuahuas are my favourite breeds.

For any interested dog lovers, I've just remembered we've got this bingo game with various dogbreeds. The grandchildren love it, our little GD knew all the breeds by name at the age of 4 and used to walk past owners in the street telling them their breeds! The adults enjoy the game too.

I’ve rescued and fostered many dogs, many breeds
My current dogs are pedigrees, from excellent breeders. My four young grandchildren ruled out rescues. Sadly, many of the dogs the charity I volunteer for, are coming in with significant behavioural problems which rule out placing them with young children

Weimaraners

Lovely English Bull Terriers for us. Loving and funny. We miss our lovely Tina also Mia, who belonged to DS2.

Rescues can be wonderful but may well come with problems.

I've known at least three which caused terrible problems, even the vet and an animal behaviourist could not help with one and, sadly, he had to be pts.

If there are children in the family the risks really need to be considered and the background of the dogs researched.

I became a grandmother long after we got our latest rescue GSD. We have been very lucky with all our rescues - all have been excellent with people of all ages and Ruby is no exception. Some of course are very different. However, I would never leave any dog with a child without very close supervision.

A Boxer was our first dog, we had him for 12 years.
Border Terriers our second dogs we had for 14 and 16 years. Both breeds were extremely affectionate and intelligent dogs and great fun.
I also like Labradors, Cairns and I love my sons crazy Cockpoo.
I just love gods, always have and always will.

We considered taking on a rescue dog before we bought our latest BT. MIL was living with us, in her 90's with very fragile skin. We approached a very well known and well funded rescue charity, explained we needed a dog that was very safe around people, filled in the forms and were shown a totally unsuitable dog. TBH I didn't feel safe around him, let alone a very old lady. He resource guarded, jumped up and was generally pretty untrained. I'm sure we could have changed his behaviours, given time, but it was a complete non starter with MIL in the household. We bought a puppy from a local breeder who was known to us.

One of my friends, Stanley is a Bernese Mountain Dog, weighs about 12 stone. Gentle giant. Insists on licking me to death every time he sees me!
