I took DH for his COPD review this afternoon. The nurse changed his prescription and sent us to the hospital for a chest X Ray. I had to push him in a wheelchair the long and winding road to radiography, me with my wonky knees too! I agree with the comments about declining mobility...He's to go back in a month. I'm glad he's being checked out because he wasn't great on holiday although we made the most of things but at a much gentler pace than before.

NannyG4, I'm glad you're staying with family just now. I hope your DH is comfortable and calmer now. Thinking of you all.

I hope your GD is feeling better now, Brook. They look so sad when they’re poorly. We have a frost free freezer that freezes up and requires defrosting. I hate that task, too. If I don’t wear gloves I cut my hands on sharp ice etc.
That’s a pretty tree, Jax. Do you know anything about staking trees? I’ve got a small willow in a pot that I want to plant out but I don’t know how to support it. I’ve looked online but it’s all way over my head.

LLFL I’m new to this de-fleaing/worming stuff. Because our previous cats were indoor cats the vet said they just need worming once a year and no de-fleaing. With this vet here, they want our kittens to be done 3-monthly. I don’t understand why it’s so necessary when they’re also indoor cats.

Our house repairs got off to a flying start today when no one arrived. A phone call established that there’d been a mix up (which I’d mentioned to the project manager and he’d poo-pooed) and now both storage removals people and workmen are due at the same time tomorrow.

I’m also much exercised by the disappearance of a handbag. I used a different bag to take on holiday and left my usual one here, in a wicker crate along with some paperwork. They’ve disappeared completely! There really aren’t that many places it could be, it’s a fairly large crate. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it since we came home but I am baffled as to where it could possibly be. It’s got various cards and other stuff in it so I do need it.

Not much else to report so sweet dreams everyone. Xx

An on and off sunny day here. We re-potted a large rhododendron this morning. Currently taking bets on the survival potential . Started to tidy the horrors around our side path, filled a couple of bags for the tip then decided some re-structuring is needed as we’re in danger of covering the damp proof course. If it’s fine we’ll attack tomorrow morning, enough was enough for today.

After lunch it was sit in a queue at the tip, be very frustrated at not being able to find two simple items of clothing in our much reduced High Street before a positive food shopping experience.

After a restorative cuppa sheer fury took us for a short way along the river bank to see the havoc left by half a dozen caravan folk illegally parked for ten days. Not only piles of rubbish but would you believe a car dumped in the river. The potential for pollution is scary. The poor wildlife. Why for goodness sake, why?

We were staying on Hayling jax, a bit of a memory lane trip for me as it was a holiday destination for many of my childhood years. Initially a leaky caravan, then a houseboat on the edge of Langstone, we had a rowing boat for use at high tide. My Dad thought it a good time to teach me to row . I’ve no idea how they found the island, we lived in East London, no Google back then. An ideal spot as both parents loved the sea. It took a year for them to save for that week away, it meant a lot to them. I doubt we’ll return, the journey was a bit much, Mr C wasn’t too well on the way back. He was upset I had to drive although I didn’t mind.

Your post resonated maw, our family still expect us to move around as we did 30 years ago, even 10 years ago. The spirit is willing, in our heads we can do anything, the body tends to think differently at times.

Your grandson has my sympathy grandmab, no need to say more! We used to utilise a fan heater for ours brook, a baking tray on one of those absorbent pads under the outlet, it was a damp procedure though. I managed to convince Mr C of the benefits of frost free, he’s a convert now.

‘Evening All’. A good day here. I took L’il Miss for a hair chop this afternoon - she looks so cute again, short and curly. The hairdresser said ‘it’s her crowning glory for sure!’. 🥰. Back to school tomorrow! Her little friends won’t recognise her. Much needed. She liked it ‘wild’ at weekends and was looking feral! 🤣

It is 9 degrees here in the NE and we have had torrential rain on and off all day.
I am sitting in my fleece and woolly socks.

LLFL I pay £20 a month at the vets which covers all Rosie’s flea and worm treatments (fleas every month, worms every 3 months) , two health checks a year, free claws etc with a vet nurse and 10% off any medication prescribed.
I think it has more than paid for itself.

Most of my good intentions went out of the window this morning as I got stuck into a new book (a Murray of Letho by Lexie Conyngham if you know her books) then Art History in Bedford this afternoon catching up with some of the lovely people I have met on these courses.

We’ve just de-flea’d the cats. £52 each for their 3-monthly dose. Cheap at half the price. Not.

OH enjoyed playing croquet with the U3A this afternoon while I popped over the road to my friend’s place where a bunch of us had a craft afternoon. I’m knitting a tunic style jumper.

It is OH’s turn to cook so he’s doing a Charlie Bigham chicken curry.

Hi everyone. Brook the rain has kept away but it's been cold and blowy. Defrosting the freezer is my least favourite chore. Well done in getting it done. NannyG4 take care of yourself too.
The boys have been pretty good today. Poor dgs2 has dreadful constipation again and is on a laxative which doesn't seem to be helping. He's struggled all day and achieved nothing. He's been so good about it. He counted to seven today and recognises some numbers so grandma is very impressed. I cooked bolognaise sauce in the slow cooker all day so it'll be ready for tomorrow night's dinner. I'm having some pulled gammon later and I'll freeze the leftovers. I suspect I shall put the heating on for a bit as it's quite cold. Right! I'm off to tidy up the toys and peel potatoes. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.

Hi kitchen pals it’s yet another cold showery day here so there’s not much gardening getting done
I decided to defrost the freezer instead, a job I always put off but the drawers were getting very iced up and hard to open. Lots of lonely garden peas were languishing at the bottom too and a few bags of things hardly recognisable. So the usual tea towels on the floor, a pan of hot water and then a mopping up job that took the best part of an hour. If anyone knows a better way to defrost please let me know! All done now though and looking much better (not me though 🤣)

I have woken early to find that it’s pouring with rain down in Kent and chilly too. I hope it doesn’t delay us getting home as I have a meeting this afternoon.

I hope you've all managed to have the best day you can. Weather here in Kent has been mixed, still not that warm and to think its nearly the middle of June.
Have been at hospice most of the day with DH... Up and down, one minute we think he's nearing the end then he perks up. We've been told by various members of staff that this can happen, so we just have to go with it.
I'm staying with my son at the moment and the grandchildren keep me going....
I hope you all manage some restful sleep... Tomorrow is another day.

However, doing nothing with nobody suited me down to the ground!

Slightly chastened to hear from D1= that SIL was shocked at my poor mobility -when I thought I was doing rather well considering! He caught me struggling a bit with the stairs at the restaurant after I had been sitting for an hour and that always makes me stiffen up.🙁
Ah well, better up the exercise quotient.

Granmarie i unceremoniously launch slugs and snails over the back fence down into the woods on the steep slope behind us - if they want to return to wreak revenge then they have an very overgrown, 1:5 hillside to negotiate 😊
I finished the border early this morning (thinking it might be too warm later - it’s not, it’s blooming chilly), watered it well, fertilised it and planted out most of my remaining plants in pots that I have grown on.
I finished knitting the second sock so pleased with myself today. About to walk the dog then a G&T me thinks!

We’ve eaten, pj’s on, sat up in bed (comfy, warm so why not - it’s not like it’s June - hehe!). I’ve got a large glass of red wine. Himself has the Canadian Grand Prix to watch at 7pm.

We are in Kent, helping out with the baby and the toddler, just until tomorrow. DSiL has been on awkward shifts over the weekend. We have had a lovely time, although the 22 month old is either teething molars or brewing something - he’s not eaten as well as usual and bursts into tears at the drop of a hat.
It’s unseasonably cold - I have a big cardigan on.

GG13 sounds idyllic, what is this warm sun you mention 🙄.
It’s been a grey day since about 10, prior to that, blue skies full of unfulfilled promise, but towels dried in the breeze. I’ve staked up tomato plants, then fed them, the aubergines and the solitary pepper.
We’ll be off to the local soon for the meat draw, I live in hope.
I did succumb earlier and bought an acer, I’ve been yearning for one since last year and it was a bargain - honest.

Good afternoon Kitchen friends. It’s grey and chilly here, more like October than June and my joints do not like it! I am wearing my gloves again as my hands are very painful, but no stiffness so far. I am having a lazy day, had a long lie in, snuggled under the duvet with my iPad. I got up in time for brunch as regular eating is a necessity for my gut health. This afternoon MrB has been pottering about the shed and garden, and I have been doing my exercises.

We’re both having a rest now and thinking about plans for the house. The burglar alarm needs servicing and some other maintenance is needed so tomorrow I need to be making telephone calls and arranging visits. There’s a water stain on the shower room ceiling from a previous leak in the central heating system which is fixed, but I want the ceiling sorting out as part of the renovation. There’s also a loose gutter near the bathroom window where the birds tend to sit in the sun, when we have any! I must cut their bird table rations, they are obviously getting too fat! I don’t think that’s letting the rain in but it needs clearing out and fixing.

Hope your repairs go smoothly SueD, mine are nothing compared to yours! Cats can be such fickle creatures sometimes.

Hi to all kitchen pals, showers again here so I’ve given up trying to do any gardening and retreated inside instead. I had a quick trip to Aldi earlier to stock up again as DD2 & co will be eating here later..

Good that you’re back now SueD and so pleased to hear your DS is doing so well. Hope everything goes ok over the coming weeks with the builders, you’ve certainly been through it but seem to cope really well - much better than I would! Hope your DH is much better soon too
