I often make scones with non-dairy spread, although as I use egg they're not vegan. I have IBS and prefer to avoid milk. The National Trust ones are delicious. If you have a non-dairy scone you can always add butter and/or cream if you wish. However, if you have allergies or intolerances a scone made with butter would be a no-no. This is a storm in a teacup and it's interesting that RestoreTrust is behind it. I witnessed their antics at the AGM last year. They will try anything to gain influence over the National Trust.
