Just been listening to the Welsh National Anthem on Utube. In Welsh, of course. Thinking of some of my ancestors from North Wales in the nineteenth century, what a wonderful anthem. Can’t beat the Welsh choirs.
What music makes you emotional?
Have to admit there are quite a few pieces for me.

My husband bought record ’She’ in 1976, he was going on a course in Durham, shortly after his return he died, never had chance to question- ‘Beauty or the Beast, Famine or the Feast ‘ as for turning each day into a heaven or a hell !

Annie's Song - John Denver's voice (laughed at it in the 70's) Makes me teary & I'm really not a crier.

Snowbell Mon 08-Apr-24 19:21:14

Yesterday sung by Paul McCartney

The third verse of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ which begins ‘Yea Lord we greet thee, born this happy morning’ reduces me to a weeping wreck every Christmas morning. Absolutely no idea why 🤷‍♀️

The song that always makes me tearful is Ken Dodd, "think of me (where ever you are)". It reminds me of my deceased parents. The words are so sincere. 😢

At school we used to sing “Lord Dismiss us with thy blessing” on the last assembly before we broke up for the summer holidays. That always made me feel sad and a bit teary because, living in a rural area with friends from all over a huge catchment area it would be many weeks before I saw them again.

My party piece as a child was nobody’s child it was guaranteed to make my gran cry, but that may just have been my bad singing lol

The drawback with choosing a popular song for the funeral of a loved one is the potential for being ambushed by it in a public place. My mum's coffin left church to The Kink's " Thank You for The Days".
I had to leave a shop very promptly when it came over the music system.

Since childhood:
Puff The Magic Dragon
The Unicorn Song
Ebony Eyes - The Everly Brothers (my elder sister had all their records, I literally cut my teeth on them)

More recently:

Danny Boy - Shane McGowan
Think Twice - Celine Dion
Shannon - Henry Gross
