Just been listening to the Welsh National Anthem on Utube. In Welsh, of course. Thinking of some of my ancestors from North Wales in the nineteenth century, what a wonderful anthem. Can’t beat the Welsh choirs.
What music makes you emotional?
Have to admit there are quite a few pieces for me.

Andrea Bocelli singing Con Te Partiro gets me every time.

I saw him ending his concert with it in the front row. Great Christmas present!

Twopence I had forgotten that one! I adored John Denver, went to his concerts and had all his albums.

Lucky you, I loved John Denver!

Loved all Acker Bilk's music - a big fan of traditional jazz and jived to his band on many occasions, including a boat on the Thames - photo in the Melody Maker!! He always called me 'his neighbour' - I came from Wiltshire. Happy Days.

Pandapatch I chose Israel Ks medley Wonderful world and over the rainbow for my mums funeral. I don’t hear it often but if I do it still brings tears.

I've just remembered one that is also guaranteed to have me in tears: "Prendre un enfant par la main" by Yves Duteil, and another French one "Connemara" I think that is by Michel Sardou.

If you're starting on the French stuff, "Ne me quitte pas" Jacques Brel has nostalgic tearful meaning for me.

The Living Years Mike and the Mechanics!

Bridge over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel
Without You - Nilsson

(This is a long thread, so I'll just jot mine down and go back and read the rest later.)

Without you is. I think, the most beautiful love song. Nothing Compares To You sung by Sinead O'Connor moves me too.

Having lived through the Fall of the Berlin Wall, one song that is guarantee to make me well up is Billy Joel's "Leningrad". Even sitting here, typing this, 35 years later, I am crying remembering the scenes at he Embassy in Budapest and the first arrivals from the East. I live quite far in the West of Germany, near the French border, but re-unification was a topic still on the tongues of my work mates in the late 70s. By the end of the 80s it was long forgotten, and then it happened! Unfortunately it wasn't as smooth as that, and still today there are differences. But that's another story.

I'm off now to have a pedicure - the girl who does it is Russian!
